Chapter 72 – From Substitute to Queen (Sable & Caelan) Novel Free Online by Hannah Moore

I remembered being so bold, so forward. Taking control when he needed relief from the aphrodisiac. The memory made me want to disappear into the mattress.

Carefully, I slid one leg toward the edge of the bed. The movement sent a sharp reminder through my core-I was definitely going to feel this for days.

My clothes lay scattered across the marble floor like confetti. The red dress torn at the shoulder seam. Underwear nowhere to be seen.

I needed to leave. Now. Before he woke up and we had to talk about what happened.

The bathroom seemed miles away as I gathered my torn clothing. Each step reminded me exactly how thorough our night had been.

A strong hand wrapped around my wrist, pulling me backward onto the bed.

“What kind of little kitten tries to sneak away after taking such good care of me?”

Caelan’s voice carried playful accusation as he rolled me beneath him in one fluid motion.

‘I wasn’t-

His mouth captured mine before I could finish the lie. This kiss was different from last night’s desperate hunger. Gentle. Searching. Like he was memorizing the taste of my lips.

My body responded immediately despite my exhaustion. Heat pooled between my legs as I felt him hardening against my thigh.

I broke the kiss, breathless. “No… I can’t… I’m too sore…”

He nipped at my earlobe, chuckling. ‘Just a kiss then. I won’t torture you any more than I already have.”

But his mouth moved to my neck anyway, finding every sensitive spot.

I grabbed his shoulders, trying to anchor myself. “Caelan…”

“Alright. He pulled back with obvious reluctance.

Before I could protest, his arms slid under my knees and back, lifting me against his chest.

As he carried me toward the bathroom, my gaze fell on the rumpled sheets we were leaving behind. Water stains. Lots of them.

The physical evidence of how completely I’d lost control made my cheeks flame. “Last night… it was because of the drug. I was just trying to help you-

Caelan stopped walking. His expression grew serious, almost guilty. He pressed a gentle kiss to my forehead.

‘I’m sorry, Sabi. I lost control completely. His voice dropped to a whisper. “Do you regret it?”

The vulnerability in his question caught me off guard. This powerful man, this Lycan King, asking if I regretted giving myself to him.

I touched his cheek softly. “I don’t regret it.”

Something fierce and possessive flashed in his eyes. His jaw tightened with barely restrained emotion.

That was our first time. It belongs only to us.”

The intensity of his words made my heart race. I buried my face against his chest, overwhelmed by the sweetness.

Caelan set me down on the marble counter, then turned to fill the enormous soaking tub.

“You’re surprisingly good at this, I teased as his fingers worked through my tangled hair with gentle efficiency.

Steam rose from the water as he tested the temperature. “I’ll be at your service every day from now on.”

The casual way he said it made my pulse skip. Like taking care of me was simply fact now, not negotiation.

His hands massaged my scalp as warm water cascaded through my hair. I closed my eyes, letting myself enjoy the pampering.

“The man from last night… Caelan’s voice grew dark. “He told us he received an anonymous package. Cash and a syringe with instructions for infiltrating Daisy’s party.

My eyes snapped open. The reminder of how close I’d come to danger sent shivers down my spine.

“If I’d been a minute later…” His hands stilled in my hair. “Sabi, I swear I’ll find whoever orchestrated this. They’ll pay for what they tried to do to you.”

A chill ran down my spine as I thought back to last night’s events. My subconscious kept circling back to Blair-something about her felt wrong. I couldn’t help but wonder: if Caelan discovered the mastermind behind this was Blair, would he make her pay the same price?

After he toweled my hair dry, Caelan settled me on the sofa and picked up the blow dryer.

I watched his reflection in the mirror across the room. The focused expression on his face. The care he took with each section.

‘I never imagined our first time would happen like this,” I admitted quietly,

His reflection met my eyes in the glass, “How did you imagine it?”

‘I don’t know. Romantic dinner, maybe? Candles? Not me taking charge because you were drugged.”

“You saved me. He set down the dryer, hands coming to rest on my shoulders. “However it happened, you’re mine now.”

His phone buzzed insistently on the coffee table.

‘Check it for me?” He returned to sectioning my hair. ‘Password is your birthday.”

I reached for the device, then froze when I saw the lock screen. It was a photo of me from my sophomore year birthday party. I remembered Scarlett taking it-I was laughing at something, completely carefree.

Something warm unfurled in my chest as I unlocked the phone. Our text conversation was pinned at the top-the only starred contact.

Multiple pack leaders had sent status updates. I relayed the information quickly, but my attention got caught by a muted conversation thread.

Blair Sterling.

My stomach clenched with familiar jealousy, but I couldn’t stop myself from opening it.

Message after message filled the screen. All from Blair, spanning the past days.

“Please forgive me. I know I was wrong.”

‘I’m scared you’ll choose her over me.”

“My body hurts so much. I need you.”

‘She’s taking you away from me.”

“Why won’t you see me? It hurts that you’re with her instead.

The desperate, intimate tone of the messages made my chest tight with acid jealousy. There was only one response from Caelan: “This has nothing to do with her.”

“Tomorrow evening, we’re having dinner at my family home.” Caelan’s voice interrupted my spiraling thoughts. “I want you to meet my parents. Bring your parents too.”

I forced myself to look up from the phone. “Will Blair be at the dinner tomorrow night?”

‘Yes.’ He moved to stand in front of me. ‘Perfect timing for her to apologize to you properly in front of everyone.”

I stood abruptly. “Find someone to bring me clothes. I need to go out.”

Caelan’s hands immediately reached for me, concerned. “What’s wrong? You seem upset.”

“I’m not upset.”

His gaze dropped to the phone in my hands. Understanding dawned in his expression.

“Sabi…” He stepped closer, arms circling my waist from behind. “I have no feelings for Blair. None whatsoever.”

I remained rigid in his embrace, unwilling to admit how much those messages had affected me.

“Come on, don’t be angry, Sabi. His voice turned coaxing.

“I need clothes. I’m going out now.”

“Where are you going? I’ll drive you.”

‘I need to go home,” I said.

I need to see Dad. Need to tell him about tomorrow’s dinner with Caelan’s family.
