Chapter 138 – From Substitute to Queen (Sable & Caelan) Novel Free Online by Hannah Moore

Peter’s voice cut through my concentration. I didn’t look up from the screen.

“If you have something to say, say it. If not, get the fuck out.”

Peter dropped into the chair across from my desk. “Caelan, there’s something I don’t know if I should tell you…”

I kept typing. “Then don’t.”

“It’s about Sable…”

My fingers stopped mid-keystroke. I lifted my head slowly, pinching the bridge of my nose before meeting his gaze.

“What is it? Talk.”

Peter shifted in his chair, trying to look casual as he settled back. “Scarlett wanted to introduce a few high-quality Alphas to

Sable…”

Something cold slithered down my spine. I rose from my chair slowly, the leather creaking under the sudden movement.

“Introduce Alphas?” The words came out low and dangerous. “What gives Scarlett the right?”

Power radiated from me in waves, pressing down on Peter with crushing force.

Peter’s head snapped down immediately, his shoulders hunching as the weight of my dominance slammed into him. He gripped the arms of his chair.

After a moment, I pulled the pressure back. Peter’s exhale was shaky as he raised his head.

“Scarlett says Sable is single now. Perfect timing to meet new people…”

My hands clenched into fists, knuckles popping audibly. “Continue.”

Peter seemed to gain confidence as he went on, his voice taking on an almost gossipy tone.

“The first one supposedly has ‘eight-pack abs, V-lines, everything-incredible physique. He’s also the youngest Alpha leader in the territory.”

“Scarlett specifically emphasized he’s the ‘innocent young wolf’ type. Eyes as pure as a newborn deer, but apparently very wild in private…

“Then there’s the typical wild and dominating Alpha. I heard just one look from him can make Omegas go weak in the knees. Ancient noble bloodline too.”

“And an artist Alpha with Italian royal heritage who specializes in moon goddess-themed paintings. Looks like he stepped out of a classical oil painting…”

Peter paused deliberately, watching my reaction. “Oh right, there’s one more special one…”

My expression darkened with each description. These bastards thought they could just waltz in and-

“Honestly, these Alphas qualifications are all pretty impressive, Peter continued, his tone infuriatingly casual.

“They’re all younger than you, and their wealth isn’t that far behind yours.”

“And Scarlett specifically chose the gentle and caring types. She said Sable has been through too much pain and needs someone to protect her properly.”

Peter leaned back as if the words meant nothing. “I heard several of them already hinted that if they dated Sable, they’d fully support her medical career. Let her keep being a doctor.”

I moved to the floor-to-ceiling windows, my back to Peter. The city lights stretched endlessly below, but all I could see was red.

“Younger?” I turned slowly. “Peter, an Alpha’s value was never about age.”

I faced the window again, hands clasped behind my back. “One decision from me can determine the fate of countless lives.”

“And I know Sable. I know what she likes, what she fears, what she needs. Every subtle expression on her face-I can read them all.”

“Those wet-behind-the-ears pups, what do they know about real love?”

My voice turned even more menacing. “Can they do what I can-sacrifice everything for her without hesitation?”

Peter burst into applause, his face lit with malicious glee. “Excellent! Truly excellent performance!”

“But who was it that told Sable to break up with dignity and go find new happiness’?”

“Now you’re suddenly declaring ownership again? All this my Sable, protect her talk?”

The words hit like physical blows. I felt my expression freeze as I realized how completely I’d exposed my true feelings.

I walked back to my desk and picked up my coffee mug, taking a deliberate sip before asking in a voice barely above a whisper,

Sable.. whats her attitude about this?”

“What allitude? Peter looked genuinely confused

Peter let the silence streich, saving my sisms of mu kwes

I sank into my office chair, suddenly feeling like all sw it tweaks

The thought of other Alphas touching her makes me want to tear apart every man who dares approach her. I was so stupid before, blessing her to find happiness. Now that she’s really going to move on, I realize I can’t accept her being with any other man.

Peter looked at the blood streaming from my hand. “Seriously, maybe she was just drunk or trying to make you angry when she agreed.

“After all, that night Elena invited you to her place for the night. That kind of invitation means…”

“I never answered Elena,” I said sharply.

“Whether you answered doesn’t matter. Just the invitation was enough. In Sable’s eyes, you two have already reached that point.”

I took a shuddering breath, forcing my expression back into something resembling composure.

“Peter, I need you to do me a favor.”

“Help me deliver a gift to Sable, but don’t tell her it’s from me.”

I moved to my private safe and retrieved an antique jewelry box.

When I opened it, Peter’s sharp intake of breath filled the silence.

The pocket watch was a masterpiece of craftsmanship-deep blue star-map face with diamond-encrusted hands that caught the light like captured starlight. The case was white gold, polished to mirror perfection.

“This is the Blackwood family heirloom. My grandmother left it for my future wife.”

Peter stared at me in shock. “This… this is Luna’s Legacy? Are you insane?

My voice carried the weight of absolute certainty. “She is my only Queen. This watch was always meant to belong to her.”

I turned the watch over, revealing the ancient runic inscription etched into the back in flowing script. “It says Time witnesses true love, true love transcends time.”

Sable’s POV

The next evening found me walking out of the hospital’s main entrance.

I spotted Peter leaning against a silver sports car, hands shoved deep in his pockets. He straightened when he saw me.

“Sable! I was just passing by and wanted to apologize for the other night.”

I kept walking toward the parking garage. “There’s nothing to apologize for, Peter.”

“How about letting me buy you dinner?” He fell into step beside me. “Please?”

I shook my head. “Thanks, but I already have plans.”

“Plans?” Peter’s voice took on an edge that made me glance at him sideways. “With who?”

“Male or female? It’s not one of those blind date candidates, is it?”
