Chapter 16 – Falling for the Last Lycan Novel

“But, you are considering it.”

Zuri smirked. “Should I start it from the brothel instead?”

Xaden’s brown eyes became dangerous when he let go of her chin and grabbed her neck. “Don’t taunt me!”

There were a lot of words that Zuri wanted to vomit on his face, but she held her tongue back. She would only hurt herself if she taunted him more than this. She wouldn’t get anything and she didn’t like it when her pain brought no benefits.

His ego was already bruised because she didn’t enjoy the sex part with him. He sought validation from those women in the brothel to boost his ego back.

“Understood!?”

“Yes.”

Xaden glared at her, searching for any sincerity in her eyes, but her face was a mask. She showed no emotions, so in the end, he let her go.

“I didn’t want to hurt you, but you pushed me to do that.” He caressed her cheek and leaned over to kiss her lips, while Zuri just accepted it. “Next time, you need to know your place.” He was satisfied enough to be able to subdue her. He should have done this sooner.

Once again, Zuri stared out of the window, as she remembered her conversation with Khaos. She didn’t have any intention to consider it, but right now… she was contemplating it.

The rest of their journey back was quiet, Xaden didn’t ask what Zuri had talked about with Khaos, probably because he didn’t deem it important enough, since a woman never had anything important to discuss with or he simply didn’t want to know.

Two weeks went by and there was no sign of her getting pregnant when Sera checked on her.

“I am sorry, Luna.” Sera looked at her apologetically, as if it was her fault that Zuri did not get pregnant. “I will try to concoct something more potent for you.”

“Thank you, Sera,” Zuri said. She dismissed her and once she left, she went to the drawer and pulled out a letter. It was her father. The letter arrived a moment ago. One of the warriors of this pack had delivered it.

It was obvious that the warrior was one of her father’s spies in this pack.

Zuri didn’t need to open the letter to know the contents of it, still she did it anyway and was disappointed because it was very predictable. She went to the fireplace and burned it, making sure it was burned thoroughly.

Her father asked for detailed information about Xaden. It was not enough to put spies in this pack. He wanted her to dig deeper. With her status, it would be easier for her to visit certain areas in this pack house without being suspected.

However, instead of digging deeper and finding a solution to her father’s demand, Zuri went to the dungeon and visited Esther and Sarah’s cell.

Both of them were put in the same cell.

“Luna?” The guard was stunned to see the luna was there. “What can I help you with?”

“Show me the way to Esther and Sarah’s cell.”

“But, Luna…”

The look on Zuri’s face must have scared him enough to follow her instruction. They had heard what happened to Faye and now they were being careful with her.

The dungeon was so dark and dirty, as if they didn’t even care to clean it, adding to the element of punishment. The air was damp and moss grew on the slick stonewalls.

The young guard was leading the way and then stopped at a certain cell, where two young

girls huddled up together. They looked… disgusting to say the least.

“You can leave,” Zuri said coldly, as she stared at Sarah and Esther. The young guard left there without a question.

From behind the bars, the two of them slowly lifted their heads and realized it was the luna. They immediately knelt down and begged for forgiveness.

They didn’t know why the luna was here, but their punishment could be worse than this. They

were so scared.

Meanwhile, Zuri let them beg for her forgiveness and waited until they finally stopped and

simply stared at her, confused.

“Lu- luna…” Esther called her.

“I am sorry, Luna. We are really sorry…”

Only then, Zuri took a step closer toward the bars and smiled sweetly at them.

They were confused, not understanding why the luna offered such a thing. It rendered them speechless, thinking this sick, dirty place had caused them to mishear what their luna said. Probably, the luna told them that they would be executed or their hands would be cut off just like what happened to Faye.

Seeing their confusion, Zuri was actually very patient when she repeated what she said again.

“You can choose to stay here or work with me, but this time, I want your complete loyalty. I want your complete submission. You will not accept any order except from me. Can you do that? Or…” Zuri waved her hand, gesturing to the dirty dungeon. “You can stay here for the rest of your lives. I can see you are getting comfortable now.”

Obviously, not at all. No sane person would choose this place.

Esther and Sarah immediately crawled toward the bars, they cried their hearts out, desperate to grab this opportunity.

If there was a way to leave this wretched place, obviously, they would choose it without a second thought. They didn’t want to stay a second longer here.

“Yes, Luna. I’ll pledge my loyalty to you…”

“I will be loyal to you… I will never betray you!”

Tears, snot and dirt covered their faces, as they lowered their heads in front of Zuri, begging for a second chance.

Meanwhile, Zuri waited for them to calm down, before she relayed her last words. “Betray me once and this place will feel like heaven to you.”

They stopped crying, shuddered at the words that Zuri said, especially when they saw her black eyes that were filled with malice.

“Yes, Luna… we will… we will serve you with all of our hearts.”

“Good.” Zuri smirked, she was satisfied.

She wanted to have her own people, and these two maids fit her criteria. After all, the people that her father planted here were not hers and she couldn’t have anyone come from her pack either, because obviously, their loyalty was to her father.

But, Sarah and Esther were different.

Their situation was no different from being dead and Zuri came to save them. Their gratitude toward her would be the first seed for their loyalty to her.
