Chapter 17 – Falling for the Last Lycan Novel

Zuri waited this long, so they would be desperate and broken enough, thinking there was no hope left and now she was their savior.

On the other note, she was fully aware that she could be mistaken, but she was willing to bet on it.

“You released the two of them,” it was the first thing Xaden said when he approached Zuri, who was sitting in the garden, sipping her tea. “Why?” His eyes fell on Sarah and Esther, who were standing not too far from them, but they moved a little bit further, out of earshot, to give the two of them a semblance of privacy.

“Because I need personal maids.”

“You can find other people.”

“I want them,” Zuri replied simply. From the corner of her eyes, she could see this annoyed him.

These two maids were the people who helped Faye harm their unborn baby, but Zuri stupidly took them back.

However, before Xaden could argue, a guard approached Zuri and informed her that someone had sent a gift to her.

“A gift?” Zuri furrowed her brows. She wasn’t expecting any gift from anyone.

“Who has sent that?” Xaden was curious. “Bring it here.”

The guard gestured for the other guard to bring the gift. “It’s from Alpha Khaos.”

Zuri and Xander were surprised. They saw a little white wolf, about the size of a palm, curling itself on a cozy cushion, while a warrior carried it.

Obviously, the warriors came from Khaos’ pack.

Just like Xaden, Khaos was given territory, a pack for him to manage. The Gray Wolf pack. The pack was given to him three years ago, a year before he committed the crime against the River Creek pack.

Khaos’ warrior introduced himself as Gayle, he put the cub on the table, along with the cushion. The little wolf lifted its head and yawned. It looked adorable.

“What is the meaning of this?!” Xaden stood up, he was barely able to contain his anger.

“Alpha Xaden, our alpha only extended his courtesy and because Luna Zuri said she liked the white wolf, our alpha gifted one to her, since our wolf just gave birth to three cubs.”

Meanwhile, Zuri didn’t care about Gayle’s explanation or Xaden’s wrath, she was enticed by the white wolf and then carried it in her arms, as if she would hold a baby.

“Send my gratitude to Alpha Khaos,” Zuri said. “I like the gift.”

“Actually, Alpha Khaos invites the Alpha and Luna from Blackthorne to come to his welcoming party, since the Alpha has just returned from his duty.”

“You meant punishment?” Xaden taunted, but Zuri was busy with her little cub.

“Actually, our alpha quite enjoyed life in the Three Deadly Ways. He managed to strengthen our fortress there.” Gayle was unaffected, he even smiled politely.

Their exchange didn’t go unnoticed by Zuri and from the looks of it, Khaos had capable people around him.

After Gayle handed over the invitation, he left. He came with two other warriors, but he was

the one who did all the talking.

“We will not go.”

“If you don’t want to go, it’s fine. I will go.” Zuri stood up, she gestured for Sarah to take

away her cub.

“If I’m not going, you will not be either!” Xaden emphasized every word he said.

“What is it? Are you trying to restrict me?” Zuri crossed her arms in front of her chest and lifted her chin. “I thought our deal was very clear. We will mind our own business.”

Xaden was furious, he took a step closer. “You will not get involved with another man and cause confusion if you fall pregnant. I want to be sure you are carrying mine when you conceive.” The indication of what he said was very clear. “Are you pregnant yet?” He glanced at her flat stomach.

“We need to try again tonight.”

The thought of that made Zuri’s stomach roil. She remembered the sight of Queen Rimera; pale, weak, exhausted, and pregnant. Would she be like that one day? It felt like she was looking into the future. That would be her own future.

“Fine.”

However, that was the only word that she could say. She was not raised to say ‘no’, her mother always said only if they appeased their man, they could have some sort of peace.

And it was their duty to give birth to an heir.

“Good.” Xaden nodded, as if he had expected the answer. He then stood up and walked away, leaving Zuri alone.

The rest of the day, Zuri decided to focus on the little cub that was given to her. She asked Esther and Sarah to ask a carpenter to make a small box for it.

“Why don’t we give him a name, Luna?” Esther asked. She caressed the cub’s head, while Sarah was combing Zuri’s hair.

Zuri glanced at the little cub that was sleeping. She would think about that later. She had never had a pet.

“All of you can leave,” Zuri said, dismissing all of them.

“Do you want me to put on some makeup…”

“No need.” Zuri cut Sarah off quickly. There was no need for the effort, because it would be over soon. She wanted the sex to be over soon. “You can leave. Bring the cub with you.”

Sarah and Esther didn’t say anything anymore and quietly left the room with the white cub.

Actually, the two of them were quite skilled at what they did, sensible and thoughtful, able to read the situation accurately, but Zuri still didn’t trust them. She still put her guard up and observed their behavior. Show her one mistake and it would be the end of them.

Once she was alone, Zuri stood up and then went to the bed. She sat there silently, waiting for Xaden to come.

However, when he opened the door and stepped inside, he was not alone. There was a woman with him and Zuri didn’t need to guess where he found this woman.

He must have visited the brothel again, which was not a surprise to her.

“What is it? Who is she?” Zuri stood up and nodded her chin at the sheepish woman next to Xaden. Obviously, she was faking it to appear meek.

She was wearing a revealing dress that showed her cleavage and the tops of her big breasts. Her lips were as red as the color on her nails.
