Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 22 – Falling for the Last Lycan Novel

Caiden couldn’t read what was written on the letter, but whatever it was, it made Khaos decide to kill Shawn.

“Kill him.” He waved his hand toward Shawn and Gayle immediately stepped forward and killed the old man, while Khaos walked away with Caiden right behind him.

They emerged from a dungeon that was located in the underground. The entrance of this place was a small rickety hut behind the alpha’s quarters and only a handful of people knew about this spot. Khaos was there when Zuri came to visit his pack and now, he was also there when her letter came.

“Arrange something on Mount Eve. I want another monster hunt.”

“But, the monster hunt just happened four months ago,” Caiden reminded him. Usually, monster hunt was an annual event, unless there was a peculiar thing that happened and that was what Khaos aimed for.

“Another monster hunt?” Xaden growled. “It just happened four months ago! Those stupid creatures wouldn’t have been able to procreate during such a short span of time!” Xaden slammed his fist on the table, clearly furious.

“Apparently, Alpha Khaos was the one who requested it. His warriors spotted Vermeyes so close to the town.” Logan flipped the report that was sent to them this early morning.

“Nonsense! There are no Vermeyes on that mountain!” He hated monster hunting and now after four months, he had to return to that mountain again. “Why doesn’t he go there himself?!”

“Apparently, at the same time, there is a problem in the Three Deadly Ways. The Great Lunar kingdom caused trouble at the border and he is needed there.”

“From the looks of it, sending him to the three Deadly Ways was not a punishment at all. He got comfortable there.”

Logan couldn’t say anything about it, yet he only had one concern. “You have locked up the luna for three days without giving her food or water, don’t you think it’s too much?”

“I don’t want to hear that.” Xaden glowered at him.

“If Alpha Roland catches wind of it, he will cause trouble blaming you for starving his daughter,” Logan tried to talk sense into the alpha, his judgment was currently clouded by anger. “She explained to you that she only went there to return the cub, the cub was hurt because you kicked it and Alpha Khaos showed his courtesy to escort her back. The luna could stay the night there, but she chose to come back, I think that’s reasonable.”

Xaden didn’t want to hear anything about it anymore and walked away from the room to visit Zuri’s bedroom. It was still locked and no one dared to go closer to this room after his warning. The only good thing that came out of her stubbornness was sleeping in a different room, now she could stay there for as long as she wanted.

[Get me the key to the Luna’s bedroom.] He mindlinked one of the warriors, who came almost immediately to deliver the key.

He unlocked it and found Zuri sleeping on the bed. Her face was pale and her lips were parched, she had been deprived of food and water for three days straight and was locked up.

“I didn’t want to hurt you, but you caused this to yourself,” Xaden said in a small voice, more to himself than to Zuri. He then mindlinked the warrior again to bring food and water.

Zuri was still sleeping when Sarah and Esther came inside at the alpha’s demand. They looked at their luna warily, seeing how weak she was, but every time they sneaked in to feed her, she always refused vehemently, her anger so intense that it made them stop.

“The two of you can leave.”

Sarah and Esther left, though their eyes still lingered on their luna, while the alpha tried to wake her up from her deep sleep.

“Why are you so stubborn?” He sat down on the edge of the bed and the shift on the bed made Zuri open her eyes, she found him and frowned. “Come, you need to drink something.”

This time, Zuri didn’t refuse, she accepted it. Xaden helped her sit down and brought the glass to her lips. Her dry throat hummed in acceptance when the fresh liquid washed away the

thirst.

This was why Zuri rejected all of Sarah and Esther’s attempts to feed her, because she knew Xaden would eventually cave in. He wouldn’t have the guts to kill her, but more importantly, she wanted this to be more believable.

The only side effect of her hunger strike was; she couldn’t take her medicine either and those voices came back to haunt her.

‘Kill him.’

‘Smash the glass on his head.’

‘Claw his throat.’

‘Hit him like he hit you.’

Those voices were her intrusive thoughts. Without her medicine, her intrusive thoughts became bolder and louder now.

“I need to go to Mount Eve in three days.” He informed her. Before, he just left. There was guilt in his eyes. “I want you to stay away from Khaos. Do you understand?”

Three days later, Xaden went to Mount Eve, while Zuri remained under house arrest. He still didn’t allow her to go out of the room and Zuri didn’t allow anyone to enter her room or

deliver her food, aside from Sarah and Esther.

The two of them religiously brought food to her room twice a day and spent all their time inside. Not because they were particularly diligent with their job, but actually to laze around. Their luna suggested this.

“Do you know where the Luna is going?” Sarah asked, as she ate the food that was brought in the name of their luna.

“I don’t know, I am not sure.” Esther leaned over and talked in a low voice. “Do you think she has an affair with Alpha Khaos?”

Sarah widened her eyes, she also leaned over and lowered her voice to a whisper, as they continued gossiping. “Alpha Khaos is way more handsome than Alpha Xaden, but he is scary.”

It was Sarah, who delivered the letter and she managed to catch a glimpse of the alpha.

“Scary as in?”

“So…” Sarah continued.

The luna had been gone the moment the alpha went to Mount Eve on monster hunting and she gave the instruction that only the two of them were allowed to enter her room. Nobody would question that, after all the alpha had made it very clear that the luna was under house arrest while he was gone.

And now, it had been two days and Sarah and Esther were having the time of their lives. They took all the food that they wanted from the kitchen with the pretext that they were for the luna and then spent the afternoon and evening lazing around in the bedroom.

This was heaven compared to their lives in the dungeon.

But of course, they were very curious where their luna was, she only said that she would return in a week.

And currently, Zuri was with Khaos. Sarah was right. She was with the alpha, inside a carriage as they moved toward the east to the border that separated the Celeste Kingdom and the Wolfdale kingdom.

Zuri agreed to help Khaos’ business with the merchants from the Wolfdale Kingdom. He wanted to buy their business transportation, but the negotiations met a deadlock because the other party was not willing to budge.

“Where did you get the money?” Zuri asked. She was wearing a black hoodie that covered her face, just in case someone would recognize her, while Khaos was sitting across from her inside the carriage.

Khaos chuckled. “Just because your pack is the richest pack in this kingdom, it doesn’t mean I don’t have the money to buy ten ships.”

Zuri shook her head. “You came here under an alias, which meant you couldn’t use your identity as an alpha or a prince. In that case, you need to take out your own money to avoid drawing suspicion onto yourself that you used the kingdom’s treasury.” Zuri tilted her head. “Do you have that much personal money?”

Khaos smiled; he didn’t appear offended by what she said. Instead, he looked amused by her deductive ability.
