It was so true that when someone was deprived of love and kindness, even a small gesture from a complete stranger could make them crave it even more.
“You have not yet told me what you want in return for this favor I asked of you.”
The carriage had stopped in a secluded area, where Zuri could shift into her beast and rush back to the pack house.
But, they had this last conversation before they parted ways.
“I will think about it carefully.” Zuri nodded. “I don’t want to rush the only favor I might get from you, Alpha Khaos.”
Khaos smiled. “I don’t think this will be the only ‘favor’. I might ask for your cooperation again in the future.” He stared into her eyes, those black eyes were less dull than when he first saw her. “Is our little secret exciting to you?”
Was it exciting to her? The answer was… yes.
She felt like a rebellious little girl, who was going against rules. The thought of doing something that was the opposite to what was expected of her was… liberating. The high she felt from fooling Xaden by staying with Khaos for days was amazing.
It felt like a small act of revenge for what he had done to her, since she couldn’t retaliate against him blatantly.
So, if Khaos said he would ask for more favors in the future, would she help him again? The answer was absolutely ‘yes’.
It was liberating. It tasted like freedom and the feeling of high from it was addicting.
“I will wait for that moment and collect my debt once I know what I want.” Zuri smiled. It was
a genuine smile because for once, on a very rare occasion, she felt happy and it showed on her
face.
“You really like secrets, don’t you?” Khaos smiled to see her eyes lit up.
And he did it again, he caressed her head and Zuri lowered her head sheepishly. She didn’t know why, but she was bashful.
It reminded her of the sweet feelings she had when she first had a crush at twelve years old. It was stupid and silly, but it warmed her heart.
“Go back now before someone catches you.”
“Okay.” Zuri lifted her head and looked at those gray eyes. They looked beautiful and even mystifying, but at the same time, they seemed to hold a deep secrecy and mystery.
‘Kiss him.’
That stupid voice echoed in her head again.
‘Why? You don’t dare to kiss him?’
‘Just lean your body and kiss him. What is wrong with that?’
The annoying voice used to bother her. Usually, Zuri would shut it down, tune out, but not this time.
Zuri actually followed those voices in her head, urging her to do more, daring her to take the challenge, to make things more exciting, so she could feel more alive.
And that was what she did.
Zuri leaned over and pressed her lips against his.
As expected, his lips were cold, but soft and tasted sweeter than nectar when she licked them. His warm breath fanned her face. His scent was so divine, even now, she still wondered how she could not notice his scent unless she was this close to him.
“Do you even know what you are doing?” Khaos asked, his voice was slightly hoarse. He didn’t pull back, nor did he push her away. However, he didn’t open his mouth to give her access to explore more either. Instead, he simply smiled into her kiss and stared at her face.
The kiss was too innocent for his taste.
He could smell her scent, it reminded him of the forest after rain. Refreshing, yet mysterious and held so many dark edges.
Finally, Zuri pulled back, she bit her lip out of instinct, looked a little bit dazed as she stared
at Khaos and found her voice.
“I think it will add to our little secret too.”
And after saying that, Zuri got out of the carriage and kept walking without turning back. She shifted into her beast and rushed toward the pack house, she knew how to sneak in without the warriors noticing her.
The alpha was not here, thus they slacked off. Moreover, even the luna, who was supposed to be in charge, was under house arrest. Based on that, no one would point out their laziness.
“Luna, we were worried about you, you said only a week, but it has been ten days and you just returned,” Sarah immediately approached Zuri when she saw the luna enter the room.
“Oh, Luna, are you okay? Are you hurt somewhere?” Esther approached her too, concern evident in her eyes. “Your face is so red.”
“How dare you cause a scandal and create more trouble?!”
Alpha Roland just arrived at the Blackthorne pack, right before a day Xaden did. The first thing he did, of course, was to confront his daughter.
The report that he received about the reason for her confinement was ridiculous, but as silly as it sounded, his own daughter just confirmed it.
“Clear out the area and don’t let anyone come closer to the bedroom,” Luna Karina instructed Sarah and Esther. She didn’t want anyone to learn what happened here.
She also stepped out of the room because she couldn’t handle watching Roland unleash his wrath, but before she closed the door behind her, Zuri’s black eyes met hers. There was a strong disappointment there. Understandably so.
This was not the first time Zuri’s mother chose to turn a blind eye to her suffering, but certainly, it wouldn’t be the last. There was no surprise there.
Meanwhile, Alpha Roland was unleashing hell upon his own daughter.
“You are crazy! Disgraceful to your family! It is your mother’s fault for not being able to teach you proper manners!” He raised his hand and was ready to slap Zuri, but this time, she glowered back at him.
“I might be pregnant! Hit me and I might lose that precious baby again!” Zuri emphasized the word ‘precious baby’ in a mocking tone.
Alpha Roland thought about that and lowered his hand, but he smashed a tea cup against the wall and it shattered into pieces on the floor, yet Zuri didn’t flinch, even when a stray shard grazed her cheek.
Blood oozed from her small cut, but it healed almost immediately.
She was not pregnant, but there was no need for her father to realize that.
“Do you realize that it could become a nasty scandal?!” Alpha Roland faced his daughter again. “If you really got pregnant, the baby would be questioned! I thought you were smart enough to think it through!”
