This had better be good,” I growled, pressing the phone to my ear.
Sir,” Sylvia began in a cautious tone.
“Get to the point, Silvia I’m busy,” I replied, doing all I could to not let my anger show,
There was a slight pause before she finally spoke, “We’ve received some news from our flagship branch in Denver. The supervisor there noticed men from a construction company scouting the area near our location. Naturally, he looked into it.”
I already knew where this was going My grip on the phone lightened as she continued
“And guess what he found?” she asked, her voice laced with the kind of anticipation that made me want to hang up on her.
But I didn’t need her to finish. I knew exactly what she’d found.
Alpha Kex
That slimy bastard.
My blood simmered beneath the surface, my teeth grinding in frustration. That conniving son of a bitch thought he could undermine me? On my turf? I rose from my seat, my gaze flicking to Kasmine, who was still fidgeting with the files. My anger simmered low but deadly, threatening to boil over.
“Tell me it’s been taken care of,” I asked her, knowing what instruction I had given to them the other day about this. We were perfectly prepared for Kex. So prepared that he won’t see us coming.
“Yes, sir. It’s been handled.” Sylvia’s voice carried a triumphant edge, a hint of pride I didn’t mind hearing. “He won’t be bothering the Denver location anymore. We made sure of that.”
“Good” A satisfied smirk tugged at my lips. Sylvia had proven time and time again that she was one of the best. Efficient, Toyal, and precise-everything I needed in my team. I just can’t do enough to show her how special she was to the company.
One day, I’d find a way to show her just how invaluable she was to the company.
“And, sir, there’s more. Valor Lante Technologies is already reeling from its failed stunt. I guess they didn’t think through the consequences.” Her excitement was infectious, though I kept my reaction measured.
“Go on,” I urged, sitting back on my chair.
“They’ve had to jack up the price of the Sentinel 12X Quantum Server-from $56,000 to $108,000. Desperate attempt to recover their losses.”
I scoffed, shaking my head. That fool. An extra $10,000? Amateur move. Did he not have competent advisors? Or was he just that arrogant?
“This is our moment, Sylvia. Move on to the next phase. We’ll recover our own losses as well. Raise the price of the Sentinel 12X to $95,000-make it clear the promo sales are over. And, listen carefully: increase the prices of all other products slightly. I mean barely noticeable, Sylvia, Just enough for the public to accept it without raising questions.”
“Yes, sir.” She replied.
Good” I ended the call and placed the phone on my desk, my mind already shifting focus. That had been worth my time.
Turning toward the adjoining office, I instinctively searched for her-my butterscotch, Mine. But her chair was empty. My stomach twisted for a split second until my gaze landed on Jake.
I breathe in a sigh of relief. I thought they had snuck out to the bathroom together again. I’d have killed him this time around.
The moment Jake started to rise from his seat, I was already on my feet.
Where the fuck was he going?
I stepped out of my office, intercepting him before he could even make it out of theirs. My presence froze him in
“Going somewhere, Jake?” I asked.
His face paled instantly, his weak attempt at confidence dissolving under my glare. What a pathetic excuse for a man. This was who my little sister thought she wanted? This quivering, useless excuse for a wolf?
“Uh… I was just…”
“Cat got your tongue?” My disgust was impossible to hide. My words dripped with disdain as I took a step closer, towering over him. “Where is Kasmine?”
He swallowed hard, sweat beading on his brow. “I don’t know, Alpha. I think she went to the ladies.”
He was no threat to me-never had been, never would be. Still, I cast him one final, condescending glance before turning away.
And guess where I was headed?
KESTER
I pushed the door to the ladies’ open and peeped. Her scent filled my nostrils as I stepped inside, letting the door shut quietly behind me. My gaze fell on her instantly.
She was standing there, gripping the edge of the porcelain sink as tight as her little hands could. Her head hung low, her shoulders rising and falling with the effort to catch her breath. Strands of her dark hair framed her face, sticking lightly to the sheen of sweat on her skin. She looked… fragile. Perfect. Mine.
The fluorescent light above cast a faint glow over her figure, highlighting the curve of her hips and the way that damn dress clung to her body like a second skin. My jaw tightened involuntarily. That dress it wasn’t just a dress. It was a fucking provocation.
She lifted her head slowly, probably sensing me before she saw me. Her eyes met mine in the mirror, and the moment they did, her body went rigid. Her breath hitched andibly, her lips parting as her wide, startled gaze locked onto mine.
“Alpha,” she whispered, her voice trembling slightly.
I didn’t move, not immediately. I wanted her to feel it-my presence, my dominance, the intensity of what I was here for. I wanted her to know there was no escape. Not from me. Not ever.
She turned around hesitantly, her back pressing lightly against the sink as though she needed the extra support. Her nervous hands clutched the edge of it, her knuckles white, her chest rising and falling far too quickly for someone who wasn’t running.
“When did we start being so formal that you now call me Alpha without a reason?” I asked, but she quickly looked away.
Only then did I catch sight of my eyes in the mirror behind her to see that my eyes were glowing red. My wolf, Zeth, was partly in control, and he always made her scared
Zeth was a ruthlessly vicious wolf who carried out intentions and duties without a second thought. He was one anyone should be scared of. But not Mine. I had tried to let her know this since I got Zeth, that he’d never hurt her, but I guess she’d never believe me.
She always referred to me as Alpha when Zeth was in control. He had such a controlling and compelling aura that she always obeyed even without me issuing a command.
I took a slow step forward, hands casually tucked into my pockets, my eyes tracing the lines of her body unapologetically. “Kasmine…”
Her breathing quickened even more, her eyes darting toward the door behind me. I was just “
I silenced her with a pointed look, my lips curling into a smirk that held no warmth. “You’ll have to stop wearing dresses like that,” I said, my voice low and suggestive, loaded with dark intent. Tight, little things that hug your curves like they’re desperate to cling to you.” My eyes dragged over her body once more, taking in the way the fabric stretched across her hips, the swell of her breasts, and the slender curve of her waist. “Do you know what it does to me?”
Her lips parted, but no words came out. She was frozen in place, caught between fear and something else she couldn’t quite name. Something I could see burning in her eyes despite her attempts to mask it.
I took another step forward, closing the gap between us, my gaze never leaving hers. “I haven’t been able to concentrate all darnn day,” I confessed, my voice dropping ven lower, rough with my effort at restraint. “Not with you sitting out there, looking like that. Not with you.. here… I almost lost my mind when I turned and didn’t see you in your seat…”
Her back hit the sink as I moved closer, invading her space reached out slowly, my fingers brushing against her cheek with a gentleness that contradicted the storm raging inside me. Her skin was soft, warm, and she flinched slightly at the contact before relaxing into it, her resistance cracking.
I tilted her chin up, forcing her to look at me. “You’ve been in my head since last night, you know?” My thumb brushed over her jawline as I leaned in, my lips barely a breath away from hers. “And you’ll stay there, Kasmine. You’ll stay there until I decide otherwise.”
I kissed her then, softly at first, testing her. She tensed beneath my touch, her fingers gripping the sink behind her as though she wanted to pull away. But she didn’t. She couldn’t. The moment I deepened the kiss, she melted into it, her lips parting under mine as her resolve crumbled completely.
She was almost standing on her tiptoe to reach my towering height. So perfect for me.
“I’ve dreamed of this. Of you. Of having you like this.” I confessed as I felt the maddening sensation skitter up my brain.
Her hands moved hesitantly, one of them clutching at the fabric of my shirt as though anchoring herself. Her breathing grew heavier, matching mine as the kiss became more consuming
My free hand rested on the cool porcelain of the sink beside her, caging her in without even needing to grab hold of her. She was mine, locked in this my surrender, whether she wanted to admit it or not.
I angled my head, sliding my tongue across the seam of her lips, teasing them open.
“Open up,” I breathed the command. It was more like a demand.
She resisted, a faint shiver rippling through her body, but it was weak. And then, like a dam breaking, she parted her lips for me.
