Rhett knew, just like everyone else, that Khaos couldn’t shift into his beast and his strength laid on his strategy. The warriors won the battle against the other kingdom in Three Deadly Ways because Khaos was the mastermind of their strategy.
Rumor said, because of his shortcoming, Khaos learned how to fight barehanded, using tools as his weapon, which was rather degrading as a shifter. Because for them; their body was their best, lethal weapon.
In that case, Rhett wanted to see how true the rumor was.
Rhett’s beast was the same color like Silas, as they were brother and in one look, you could say that he was a better fighter than his older brother.
However, it was not enough to take Khaos’s down. Once the golden brown beast lunged an attack, Khaos side step and grabbed the beast’s throat before he slammed him to the ground with a full force. You could hear the breaking of the beast’s bones.
Rhett didn’t expect this. Khaos was very fast and strong.
Because of the pain, he couldn’t preserver his beast form and shifted back to his human form, as he coughed blood.
“Save your time and energy.”
That was the only thing that Khaos said before he left the cell, as if he had not just taken down a beast in his human form. Barehanded on top of that.
And for Rhett, at the very least, he learned that the rumor was true. Khaos was a beast himself in human form.
Logically speaking, human was way weaker than beast and the shifters were more vulnerable in their human form.
But, apparently, the same thing didn’t apply to Khaos.
And right now, the alpha was heading toward Zuri’s bedroom after he gave an order to proceed with the next step, which was no other than a torture to squeeze the information out of Rhett.
Zuri might not like it, since he was her favorite brother, yet there was another thing that bothered Khaos so much.
She was the beauty blood.
Rhett had been nurturing her from the beginning, but what the meaning of that? Without the scriptures, he only knew a thing or two about beauty blood, since this was way different from the other two items from the lycan three legacies.
“Beauty blood,” Khaos murmured, he sat down on the edge of the bed and brushed away her black hair from her face, Zuri was sleeping peacefully. There was no sign of nightmare, which was good.
He looked at her closely and pulled the blanket to cover her leg. She had this habit to put out one leg out of the blanket when she was sleeping.
However, it stirred her awake, she rubbed her eyes sleepily. “Khaos?” her voice was hoarse and heavy, as the room was so dim.
“Sleep again,” Khaos said. He had asked Declan about the healer, who looked after Zuri, but he didn’t know about it.
Apparently, it was not the healer from the pack house, thus he had issued an order to bring all
the healers in this pack.
“Lay down with me,” Zuri said.
Khaos then let her to pull him down, until he laid down next to her and she snuggled into his
arms to continue sleeping. She let out a sigh of relief.
the next day, they didn’t talk about what happened to Zuri the other night, the topic about how she tried to harm herself had never come up.
meanwhile, Khaos had gathered all the healer from the pack and none of them knew about the Red Feather. They didn’t even know whether it was a medicine or a poison, which left Khaos with only Rhett as an option to get the answer.
However, he was not in hurry, he could afford to wait, until they broke him and he finally relented to answer the question.
Two days later, Silas regained his consciousness. He looked mortified when he saw Zuri was standing next to his bed, staring down at him with that pair of dead eyes, as if all the light had been sucked out of her.
“What the fuck are you doing in my bedroom!?” Silas growled, he tried to move away from her, but he couldn’t move easily, since he was still in so much pain.
Yet, Zuri simply rolled her eyes to see his reaction. This man was very weak. She couldn’t understand why she was afraid of him in the past. She was sure, she could kill him right away if she wanted to. The voices in her head were getting violence.
“He is awake,” Zuri said, she approached Khaos and kissed his lips.
“Good. Drink this.” Khaos handed her a cup of warm tea that he had brew earlier and told her to sit down, which she did obediently.
Zuri was rather calm whenever she was close with Khaos. She heard less the voices in her head whenever she was with him, though some time, Xaden would appear and give her a dirty look, calling her all the horrible names, but there was nothing new about that.
On the other hand, Khaos approached Silas, who glared at him with wide eyes, spouting nonsense about killing Zuri right away because she had attacked him, yet Khaos listened to his complain without saying anything and was generous enough to wait until he was calm down and could talk.
However, Silas seemed very clueless about it and kept running his mouth, which made Zuri’s patience grew thin and she decided to walk toward Silas and splash the tea to his face.
“Shut up!” Zuri growled at him. She raised her hand, which was holding the empty cup, ready to smash it against his head.
The tea was still hot, thus it scalded Silas’s face, he wailed in pain like a toddler, while Khaos chuckled to see this sight.
“Thank you for your help.” Khaos took her free hand and kissed her knuckles. “I will handle it from here. I am not in the mood to see blood.”
Zuri finally put down the empty cup and went back to sit on the table, pouring more tea and enjoyed the scenery, staring at the distance.
“So, are you going to talk with me, or do you want her to handle it?” Khaos tilted his head, as Silas wiped his face.
“What do you want to talk about?!” Silas snapped. He glanced nervously at Zuri, who was sitting calmly a few steps away from them, her eyes glazed over, as if she tuned out this world.
“Tell me everything about what happened.”
“What do you mean what happened?” Silas didn’t understand.
“I want to know about what happened to her. The way your father treated her. Everything.”
Initially, Khaos was not really interested to know Zuri’s past, but after hearing about the beauty blood, which related to the lycan, it could answer the question about why Zuri was obsessed with him, it must have something to do with it.
More so, he needed to know more about beauty blood and what actually was that. Rhett said it was something that you could obtain by nurturing it.
“Why do you want to know? There is nothing interesting about her!” Silas growled. “She is crazy. She has been crazy when she was a child and she is crazy even now!”
The word caught Zuri’s attention, she turned her head and was ready to smack his head with chair this time, as she dragged it with her and Khaos laughed to see the fear on Silas’s face.
“I am not going to stop her this time, so choose your word carefully.”
Silas widened his eyes, he couldn’t believe he would be in this position one day when he used to bully Zuri when they were little.
