Chapter 50 – Falling for the Last Lycan Novel

“What the two of you were talking about?” She furrowed her brows, was not happy because she was being left out. She became a little bit clingy now and Rhett noticed that too.

Zuri originally was very bright, she was independent and had a strong opinion.

Logically speaking, someone meek and spoiled wouldn’t be able to bring glory to the pack behind the scene. However, right now Zuri was nothing, but looked like a puppy in Khaos’s palm, she would follow him everywhere and demanded attention from him.

Going on without medicine for so long had completely messed up her mind and it changed her personality.

Rhett was rather sad to have his brilliant sister to become like this, but then their main goal was not to enrich the pack and develop Zuri’s potential, his sister’s fate was to help them to revive the old dynasty, which was more important than to build one pack.

“Nothing,” Khaos said, he smiled at her and kissed her forehead to appease her and Rhett could see the way the alpha treated his sister gently and how Zuri’s eyes lit up.

He wondered whether the alpha was being genuine with her or it was only an act.

In one of the scriptures, it was mentioned that the Shell would have a strong connection with the lycan, who took care of them, they would favor a lycan during the whole process, since after so many curses, they would be emotionally fragile.

The Shell usually would feel isolated because of the whole hallucination thing that they had to go through, more so, building an emotional connection with the lycan was important for the succeed of the beauty blood.

In that case, because Khaos was the last lycan, obviously, Zuri could only favor him.

This was also one of the reasons why Rhett immediately thought Khaos was the last lycan. Zuri had never acted this way with anyone else, not even when she was with Xaden. Yes. Rhett kept his eyes on her.

“Zuri, let’s go on our trip together. It has been a long time we didn’t do it, right?” Rhett immediately chimed in to lure her to follow him like usual.

Yet, Zuri shook her head. “No. I don’t want to go.” She frowned at her brother. “I want to stay here.” She held Khaos’s hand.

“Alpha Khaos will come with us too. Don’t you want to go?”

Zuri blinked her eyes and then lifted her head to look at Khaos. “You are going to go too?”

“Yes.” There was no hesitation when Khaos answered that and a beautiful smile bloomed on her face. She suddenly looked excited.

“Okay, let’s go together!” Zuri was thrilled to have Khaos and Rhett on this journey. She was relief because the two of them got along really well, despite the fact that their first meeting didn’t go really well.

And the next day, they prepared to leave the pack house incognito, Rhett didn’t tell Zuri where they were going to go, which was not weird for her, since he used to surprise her.

However, the day when they left, the rumor about Khaos’s greediness to take the reign of the River Creek pack started to become more and more heated. The nasty rumor spread like a wildfire and the king’s hands were tied to help his brother.

From what the rumor said, the elders in the palace had been demanding for the king to take action for Khaos’s brazen attitude. This could be addressed as an act of treason.

Therefore, when the king sent Silas with a hundred thousand warriors, people didn’t have anything bad to say. They supported the king.

Khaos shouldn’t have been so greedy to take rule over two packs, that was wrong and that was an act of treason. Khaos’s name had been dragged through the mud with the fact he was going to have Zuri as his mate. She was the traitor alpha Xaden’s mate!

The only thing that the people was afraid of was if a civil war broke out, since alpha Khaos was not an easy opponent.

“Are you… really going to send them away, my king?” Nycta looked fearful when she watched a hundred thousand warriors in their beast, as they were ready to march to River Creek pack under the royal banner and Silas’s command. “From what I heard… alpha Khaos is rather ruthless.”

“You don’t need to worry about that.” Dacre hugged his young mate from behind. He placed his hand over her still flat stomach and kissed her nape gently. “I don’t want to do it, but my hands are tied. Khaos has crossed the lines and he should know better not to act this way.” He inhaled her scent and closed his eyes. “The mask finally slipped off and he showed his true color. He aimed for power, just like everyone else.”

Nycta leaned her back against the king and enjoyed this attention.

Currently, both of them were standing in the balcony that overlooked the thousand warriors, who were ready to go to River Creek pack. It was a massive number.

Meanwhile, Rose was standing behind the two of them, watching the affection that the king showed to her little sister.

She came here to ask for alpha Khaos to be her chosen mate, since his status and his birthright was on par with her. He was the only man, who held so much power after the king himself and because she couldn’t have the king, despite she was the eldest daughter now after Rimera had died and the king didn’t choose her to be his mate, she couldn’t settle with someone less.

It was some kind of humiliation for Rose for the king to skip her and choose her sister instead.

However, with how everything unfolded, she didn’t think that was a possible thing to do. Khaos was not in a good term with the king right now and Rose was left with two options; finding another potential alpha to be her mate or…

“I feel so bad. Being the king must be very lonely and hard.”

“Yes, it is.” Dacre kissed her head. He ran his fingers over her flat belly. “But, with you here, I don’t feel lonely at all. As long as I have you and the baby, I will be fine. The two of you all I need.”

Hearing that, Nycta’s heart swelled with happiness. She loved him so much, despite the odd of their relationship.

Right now, she tried to be happy with the pregnancy, but this one fact kept nagging on the back of her mind when she remembered that she was carrying someone else’s child. Killian. This was Killian’s child and was not the king’s.

This felt very weird, especially every time she saw the happiness in Dacre’s face when he caressed her stomach, knowing it was not his flesh and blood.

It was foolish of Nycta, but she wished, by some miracle, the baby was Dacre’s. She tried to be happy and pretend there was nothing wrong with the baby in her womb, but she couldn’t completely brush off this feeling.

Nycta glanced at Killian, who was always around her. He didn’t pay any attention to her. He was cold and nonchalant, as if there was nothing that interest him, not even the fact that he would father a child, who was one day would be the king of this kingdom.

“What are you thinking about?” Dacre asked when he could tell how distracted she was.

“I am thinking about what will happen if alpha Khaos retaliated, will be a civil war? Don’t you think it will weaken our kingdom? Especially with Great Lunar kingdom has been very pissed because many of their warriors were killed during the coup a few months ago.”

Dacre chuckled. “You don’t need to worry about that.” He hugged her a little bit tighter. “You are really the perfect queen for this kingdom. You think everything thoroughly.”

Rose rolled her eyes because it was her concern that she voiced out to Nycta a few days ago during one of their tea time. Her clueless sister wouldn’t have such deep thought.

But then, a warrior approached the king and informed him about the latest report.

“The ships didn’t make it to the shore, my king.”

“What?” Dacre let go of Nycta and approached the warriors. “What do you mean with that? The ships should be here two days ago!”

These were the ships that contain meat and their food supply during winter. Every year, it would be the same ritual and the ships had never been late at all.

“What happened?!” Dacre looked visibly upset.

“We are still investigating the cause of it, my king, but because the sea has started to freeze, we need some time.”

Dacre gritted his teeth.

“My king, can I say my opinion about this matter?” Rose said timidly and carefully, she looked beautiful in her red dress. Among the other sisters, she had more similarity in feature

with Rimera.
