“How can I stay in a house that’s infested with the portraits of another woman in my fianc?’s house?” She cocked her head to the side before dumping her handbag on the bed.
“Tell me, Kasmine,” She began. “How does it feel, knowing that I took you as a close ally, confided in you about my feelings for your brother, begged you to talk to him for me, and yet, you were busy fucking him amidst all of that?” She laughed, “You must be a really cold-hearted bitch.”
My heart screeched to a stop.
How did she know I was sleeping with my brother?
I cleared my throat, trying to sound innocent and unaffected, “I don’t know what you are talking about, June. The Moon Goddess decided to mate me with my brother. That’s not something I asked for. And it doesn’t give you the right to make… wild accusations.”
“What accusations?” She scoffed, “Is it still wild if I have proof?”
She took a step closer.
“Oh. He didn’t tell you? Kester? My fianc??” She asked with an eye roll, “He didn’t tell you that I know about your little secret? And that I’ve been the one sending those anonymous texts to you?”
I frowned.
June had been the anonymous sender all along?
Oh, my God.
I almost lost my breath. I never expected it to be her.
She… What would she do with the videos? Was that why she was here? To finally tell me how she’d let everyone know what has been going on between me and Kester?
Why didn’t Kester tell me about this?
Why… Just why…?
“Oh, poor Kasmine. Her tone shifted into a mocking, syrupy one, “What else hasn’t he told you? You’re so naive. So blind. You thought you knew him. Thought you were special. But you’re just andther one of Kester’s secrets.”
She stalked closer, her red lipstick glinting under the soft glow of the chandelier in the room.
“Did he also tell you,” she whispered, stopping inches from my face, that he took my virginity in college?”
What? He… He did?
The room spun. Everything cracked around me. My lungs refused to fill properly.
But I thought he said he’d never touched her before. And why did it even bother me?
“Because you are his mate, and he lied to you,” my wolf said, but I paid no attention to her words, which were actually true.
Kester kept too many secrets and told too many lies, which was disturbing.
I sighed, pushing away the emotions that were bubbling beneath, “June. Whatever you and Kester did in school is none of my business. And whatever you are still doing is still none of my concern,” I grabbed my bag, “If you’ll excuse me…” I tried walking past her, but the next thing I saw was her hand gripping my arm and pulling me back harshly.
“You must be very stupid to think you can walk out on me, you disgusting whore!
Crack!
Her palm collided with my cheek in a stinging slap. My head jerked deways, white-hot pain burning the spot like fire.
Stars danced behind my eyes. My skin stung. My balance staggered.
My hand instinctively flew to the side of my face where it hurt.
“I did everything possible to be with the man I’ve always loved. And you think you can just… Take him away from me without a fight?” She scoffed, “You have something else coming, honey.”
I straightened up, my palms twitching by my side.
“You will reject him and be on your way out of his life and this city. Otherwise, I’ll make your life a living hell, I promise…”
I didn’t let her finish.
With every single strength in me, I lifted my hand and struck her with my palm as hard as I could across her flawless face.
I didn’t wait for her to regain her stance when my other hand descended on her other cheek in another perfect slap, rocking her off balance.
Her perfectly stretched hair flew across her face, turning into a mess.
“Listen to me, June. I have always taken you as an older sister. But don’t mistake my meekness for weakness because the next time you hit me like that again, I’ll do more than return the favor. I’ll return it in tenfold.” I said through gritted teeth.
June’s hand hovered near her cheek like she couldn’t believe I’d actually hit her twice. And I wasn’t sorry. Not even a little.
She blinked slowly, then scoffed, turning her face as if to recover her dignity. She took a step back toward the bed, grabbed her handbag, and then paused.
Her eyes met mine, and I saw venom swirling in them, but her lips curled into something like satisfaction. The kind of grin that says, ‘You’ve only just begun to burn, sweetheart.’
“I was going to leave,” she muttered, digging through her bag, “but I think you should see this before you go thinking you’ve won some fucking battle.”
She pulled out her phone, and, for a second, I thought she was bluffing. I thought maybe she was just trying to rattle me to keep some power in a game she was quickly losing.
But then she turned the screen toward me.
Then, a video played, but the sound was off.
It was me and Kesten my bedroom.
His hands were under my shirt, and mine tangled in his hair.
Our mouths-God.
I didn’t need sound to hear the moan 1 let out when he bit down on my neck.
This was different from the ones she had sent to me anonymously. This meant she had more.
My entire body froze, horror scraping through my veins. “What the hell is this?” I choked out.
“Oh, honey,” June sighed, clearly relishing the moment. “It’s exactly what it looks like. You two, screwing like animals. I have over eight different angles-my personal favorite is the one where you’re begging him to make you come for the fourth time. Very classy.”
She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, watching me as my stomach twisted with nausea,
“You didn’t know Kester had secret cameras planted in your room, right?” She let out a slow smile as she saw the horror on my face.
“What?” I blinked at her. My entire body froze. “What the hell did you just say?”
Kester? Planted camera in my room?
God! What else had he done that I wasn’t aware of?
Not only did he bug my phone and laptop, but he also had my room under 24-hour surveillance?
I couldn’t feel my legs anymore. They had turned to jelly.
KASMINE.
June tilted her head, clearly savoring the way the blood drained from my face.
