The news had reached the pack, and now, everyone suddenly began to show interest and care, including those miserable elders who had refused to believe that there was a greater ploy at play. i could vomit.
I didn’t need them. In fact, I hate them with every fiber of my being.
“Talk to me, Kester,” Jorja sniffed.
“What the fuck do you all care about now?” I barked, slamming my palm against the steering wheel as I swerved a tight corner. “You and that man sent her into the lion’s trap, and now you suddenly care?”
My jaw clenched hard as I flew past the road where Norlan’s car had flipped days ago. Just driving past that stretch made my skin crawl. The memory, the blood, the wreckage, the fear… It all screamed at me. I pressed the gas harder.
“We want to help, Kes. Please,” Jorja sobbed harder, but before she could say another word, I dropped the call. I couldn’t tolerate sympathy at this point.
Tires screeched as I pulled into the hospital lot and made my way into the hospital premises and straight to Norlan’s ward.
“I’ve been calling you all night, Kes,” Norlan sat up immediately he saw me. “how did it go? Was she innocent after all?”
I almost let out a bitter laugh that refused to make it past my throat. Funny how he always wanted to believe June was a saint.
You really still wanted to believe that she is a saint?” I growled, pacing the room like I couldn’t contain the fire boiling inside me. “She knew, Norlan. She knew everything. The abduction. The timing. The whole fucking plan. She wasn’t just involved, she was part of the damn engine running it.”
His face fell. I saw the denial in his eyes and the way he tried to reach for something, anything at all, that made this less real.
“And it doesn’t stop there,” I hissed, walking toward the window, my knuckles white around the metal IV stand beside me. “Kex. Wes. Those two bastards played their parts, too.”
“And now they’re trying to act like saints, trying to wash the blood off their hands and pretend they never touched the knife. I chuckled, “In donation Wes made at the fundraiser last night? Trying to buy the heart of the entire world. Pathetic.”
Norlan paused, then cleared his throat like he was about to say something blasphemous.
“Speaking of saints…”
I turned to him slowly, narrowing my eyes.
“I think I know someone who could help track Nagel down. Since I’m stuck in this hospital and can’t move like I want to…”
The wheels in my head began to turn again, “Spit it out, Norlan!” I growled, even though it wasn’t necessary, as I walked toward his bedside.
He met my gaze. “Alpha Saint. Of the Night Shade Pack.” e the… I almost laughed… that bitter, joyless kind of laugh that hides the urge to break something. I closed my eyes to calm the storm brewing in me before opening them again.
“You must be fucking joking.” I shook my head and ran a hand down my face. That psycho? There is no way in hell I’m involving him in this.
Alpha Saint…
Just hearing his name made my skin crawl.
That man was chaos in human flesh – an unhinged lunatic with a calmness so fucking disturbing, it could make death flinch.
A man who had the entire hair on his head all grey at just twenty-eight? Like life had beat the youth out of him long before it touched anyone else. He was beyond weird.
And those eyes… Dead, grey holes with no warmth and no soul. Just stillness and judgment. The kind that made you question if your heart was still beating.
And I swear he treats “smile” like a cursed word. I wonder if he had ever checked up on the meaning of “smile” in his dictionary. Or maybe his dictionary just skipped that page entirely. Or, perhaps he thinks the word only existed for aliens?
And his aura?
You ever walked into a room and felt like you were drowning in cold ash? That’s what being near Saint felt like. He didn’t breathe power. He crushed you with it.
He fucking held my gaze until I almost looked away. There is no way in hell I’d ever be able to stand in the same room as him and that strange Beta of his!
I could almost think they were lovers. Yeah, right. Because, If that was pure, innocent friendship, I’d rather run with rogues.
They were unnaturally close they were and too in sync. Otherwise, how could a man be so close to his best friend to the point of fucking the same woman at the same time? They shared women like they were blood and wine. Fuck.
They called it brotherhood. I call it fucked up.
And now Norlan wanted those two in my territory?
Not happening. They were both lunatics!
“Look, I know the last time you crossed paths, it almost turned bloody,” Norlan said carefully, “But this isn’t about you two playing alpha dicks. This is business. You pay him, he gets your Luna back. Fast and efficient. He’s the best in this field.”
I turned to him slowly, my jaw tight. “You know what he is, Norlan. He’s me, if I gave up the last pieces of my soul.
“Not happening!” I yelled, running desperate fingers through my hair, “They are lunatics! They can’t go a week without sticking their cocks into the same woman! It’s like a ritual to them! They are abominable!”
I knew I was blabbing nonsense, but, fuck me, anything to keep away from Saint. What an irony of a name for one who is the direct opposite of who a Saint should be!
“You have an issue with what they choose as their fetish, or you want your Luna back?” Norlan snapped, “I can’t help you from here. And even if I wanted, I don’t have all my resources at hand, and I can’t trust my boys to do as perfect a job as
Saint’s organization would.”
I heaved a sigh, slowly shaking my head.
“I’ve already contacted him. Sorry. He’ll be here in nine hours. That should be enough time for you to stitch your ego back together.” Norlan said, and I swear to fuck, if not that he was in a hospital bed, I would have punched him at this instant.
“What the fuck? I’d rather shave my balls with a rusted blade than let Saint anywhere around me or Kasmine! My fury knew no bounds.
“I told you,” Norlan said, “This isn’t about you anymore.”
“Call him. Call it off. I don’t give a fuck how much it costs I’ll find her myself. I’ll start with Kex, and I’ll burn the whole damn chain down from there.” I roared and walked out on him without sparing him another glance.
Author’s Note:
As we near the end of this story, I’m beyond excited to finally introduce you to Alpha Saint. He is a character who is anything but your typical Alpha. Saint is a storm waiting to be unleashed. His story is dark, raw, and unlike anything you’ve read before.
More details about Alpha Saint’s full book will be coming up soon next. and trust me, you won’t want to miss what’s coming… I’ve also posted a snippet on my FB page – Velvet Desires.
KASMINE.
I refused the food again.
It sat there on the floor- lukewarm, bland, probably drugged but my stomach twisted so violently I thought I might pass out from the pain.
I was starving. My body screamed for it. My lips were cracked, and every bone in me ached from how cold it was in here. But I’d rather starve than give these monsters the satisfaction. How could I trust them? How could I be sure they wouldn’t slip something into the food to make me weak, compliant… easier to transport or silence?
My fingers were numb, curled into my sleeves for warmth. I sat hunched in the corner of the dim cell, trembling, half from cold, half from hunger, but I was hopeful Kester would find me. I knew he would.
I didn’t care how stupid I’d been to take off the necklace… the one thing that would have helped him find me.
I had to believe he’d come anyway. I had to.
Because the only thing worse than this… was thinking he might not be alive.
But he was. I felt it in my chest like a pulse. He was angry, and hurt, and probably losing his fucking mind right now, but he was out there, breathing and fighting. I just had to believe that because that was the only thought that gave me hope and kept me sane.
There was no way I could think otherwise. If I do, I’d choke on my own fear.
The door creaked open again, and I didn’t need anyone to tell me who it was because the atmosphere changed with that sinister stillness that always followed him.
He kept coming in here like clockwork and saying nothing, freaking me out. I was utterly terrified of him, and if that was his game plan, then I must say it was working perfectly.
