Chapter 153 – Falling for the Last Lycan Novel

Declan nodded as if he understood what she was saying, even though Zuri was not sure he actually felt any sympathy towards her. She didn’t think this man was capable of feeling any sympathy.

“Did your mate know about your true color or you only use her for your own advantage?” Zuri asked when she saw the magic users came approaching them. They waited. They stopped walking right behind Declan.

Those magic users were waiting for an order from him.

Zuri wondered why Bryden betrayed Khaos like this. He should be his loyal beta, but actually he was also the one who betrayed him again and again. How could he do it for the second time? Zuri simply couldn’t understand that.

And now, Zuri realized Khaos was in the position where he couldn’t even trust his own men. She could understand how it felt because that was how her life until now.

It was so fucking difficult when you couldn’t trust anyone, which was what people around Khaos did at this moment.

Yet, they justified their action by saying they did this for Khaos. They did this for their vengeance. They did this to help him.

Bullshit.

“You don’t need to bring my mate inside this conversation.” Declan was not happy with the change of topic and with that Zuri knew his mate didn’t know any of it.

That poor woman didn’t have any idea what kind of man she was with.

“Oh, if you don’t like to talk about your mate, why don’t we talk about your baby? Your mate just gave birth to your first born, right? Let’s talk about my nephew.”

This time Declan didn’t say anything and he ordered the magic user to take Zuri away.

“You can’t take her away without her medicine.” Declan stood right in front of Zuri, while the ten magic users moved toward him.

“Then give the fucking medicine to her.” Declan narrowed his eyes. “If she is dead, we will not get anything. Khaos will definitely kill you. Do your job and stop whining.”

“You need to send someone to retrieve my mate. Their entourage must be a few days away from here.”

“No. You are wrong. Khaos is nearby.”

The things that Declan said made Zuri snapped back to reality. Khaos was here. He knew where to find her.

However, would she want to go with him?

Zuri was trembling now. She didn’t want Khaos. She wanted her drugs.

And actually, what Declan said was right. Khaos was already in the Great Palace. He came alone, while Caidan and the other warriors were a few hours behind him, yet he knew this place like the back of his hand.

After all, this place was supposed to be his home. He had been here a few times.

It didn’t take long for Khaos to find Declan in the throne room, but by that time, Zuri and Lorent had been escorted to somewhere else.

On the other hand, when Khaos saw Declan was there, his expression didn’t change at all. Instead, he asked for Zuri.

“Where is she?” Khaos asked coldly.

If Khaos was surprised to see that Declan was there, he didn’t show it on his expression.

The throne room was empty aside from the two of them and the throne on top of the platform. The precious gems from that throne had been stolen, but it didn’t make that chair as the symbol of absolute control became any less powerful.

It was placed there in the highest spot in this room, looked so arrogant.

“Good afternoon my great lycan king,” Declan greeted Khaos. He didn’t sit on the throne now, instead, he approached Khaos and then bent his body like a loyal servant.

However, Khaos didn’t buy it. He let him to bow down and didn’t let him to stand up. Based on the rule, Declan was not allowed to stand up until Khaos said so.

But apparently, he didn’t go by the rule as he stood up on his own and greeted Khaos again as if there was nothing wrong with it. Khaos was not amused by this. He stared at him and asked him again with the same question.

“Where is she?”

Khaos was not playing at all. He looked furious, especially when he smelled the scent of the magic users around the room.

There were ten different scents, which meant there were ten of them and he knew he had been betrayed again by Bryden.

There was no way these magic users were here without him knowing about it. That was what made him very furious.

Khaos tried to find Zuri’s scent, but he couldn’t. There was this strange scent in the air and he didn’t like it. It was too sweet, the same like Zuri, but it was not her. He didn’t know why.

However, the truth was Zuri’s scent had been altered by the drug that Lorent gave her. The smell of the drug had changed her scent too.

That was why Khaos couldn’t find her right away.

“You don’t need to worry about it. The ritual will happen soon. You don’t need to worry about anything else my great lycan. You can sit and wait to see how everything unfolded.”

Khaos actually scoffed. “I don’t want the completion of the beauty blood. I want my mate right now or else I am going to destroy all of you.”

“My dear great lycan king, you should know better that this is our plan all along. This is what you and your people have been waiting for. Everything has gone according to the plan, but your attachment toward her only delayed the inevitable.”

And by this time, Khaos knew the people that he trusted had betrayed him. They put their revenge above his order. He was sure that Ezra knew about this plan as well. It was so laughable that they tricked him into believing that they were on his side all this time when it turned out he was just a symbol for their own revenge.

And they use his mate because they thought they knew better than him. It was so pitiful to know this now. Too late, and he had put his mate in danger. Not only once, but a few times.

“You are the leader of the cult.” That was not a question, but a statement.

“Yes, I am.” Declan admitted it without any doubt. He was the leader of the cult. There was nothing to hide anymore at this point.

“And where your loyalty is?”

“My loyalty is to the lycan.”

“Then release my mate.”

“But I am sorry, I can’t do that.” Declan shook his head. He looked apologetic. “Your judgment is clouded my great lycan. You don’t know what is right and what is wrong anymore.”

Khaos actually laughed when he heard that. His laughter was even scarier than his anger. “What are you going to say? That I am losing my mind?”

“No, I will not dare to say anything like that. That’s so insulting.” Declan shook his head again. “But the mate bond that you created with Zuri has changed your perspective. It clouded your mind, your judgment, and also your feeling toward her.”

Declan took a step closer toward Khaos. He paused to gauge his reaction, but the lycan didn’t say anything, thus he continued with his monologue, thinking Khaos was actually listening to him.
