“She was never meant to be apart of their pack in the first place” I snapped “To hell with their procedures!”
“Madelyn is a Lycan” My mother spoke up and the room fell quiet again “The fact that they had her at all is grounds to ignore their procedures, she fitfully belongs with us but they also kept her as a maid and abused her and, according to our procedures and the treaty that you seem, so hell-bent on quoting, clearly states that we have the right to wipe out Alpha Troy”
“Which is exactly what Koda and I want” I commented “Him and his son”
“Let’s not act so rashly Alpha Jaxson” My father’s head Gema, Gema Lance joined the conversation “Without grounds, that could start another war, you weren’t around for the first one so trust me when I say, you don’t want to start another one”
“I have grounds” I snapped as my temper surfaced “They held her against her will, they suppressed her Lycan, the beat and belittled her”
“Perhaps” Lance responded “But it is still her word against theirs, we need proof or a witness that could speak up about the abuse or enslavement”
“Are you saying my mates word isn’t good enough for you”
“What word?” Jordan said and I glared at him “Has she told you that they held her against her will, has she told you of the abuse, perhaps she could come to the council room tomorrow morning and tell us of her ordeal, then we could make an informed decision on attacking the Alpha, who from what I’ve heard has been nothing but a model Alpha”
“She doesn’t even want to speak in detail about her abuse with myself or Koda yet” I admitted “I am not going to subject her more trauma by reliving it all in front of more strangers”
“Then we are to take your word for it that she was harmed?” Jordan went on “How do we know it wasn’t simply a case her her being punished for wrong doings but you, as her mate, have seen it as something much worse, and want to use it as justification for killing her first mate”
“You dare accuse me of lying!”
“Enough” My father rose his hand “This is what I know for sure. The girl’s a Lycan, she belongs with us. She rejected the boy and has accepted my son’s so she will remain here, Troy is not getting her back, as for this matter of killing Troy, I will wait to know all of the facts before I decide, we will listen to him speak tomorrow and Jaxson, you will bring Madelyn here the morning after, she doesn’t have to relive everything but I want to know what kind of Alpha this Troy really is”
“Yes your majesty” I agreed.
Sh*t, I didn’t want this, I didn’t want Madelyn to have to talk about her abuse, how would I convince her to come.
“Now, about the death of Alpha Hallus” My father changed the subject “He was killed three nights ago. Both he and his son were killed”
“Bring in the witness” My mother called out and one of the guards brought in a young boy around 11 years old.
The boy was trembling in fear, the poor thing must have been scared out of his mind as the guards pulled him gently down the aisle to stand in front of the King and Queen.
“What’s your name boy?” My father asked, but the boy looked down nervously “I asked you a question boy, speak!”
My father had never really been the material type.
I exhaled and got up and moved to sit beside him and touched his arm.
“Don’t be afraid” I said softly “You are not in trouble, and you’re safe, my name is Jaxson, what’s yours?”
“Eugene” He said nervously
“It’s nice to meet you Eugene” I smiled “I am sorry you lost your Alpha, but can you tell us what you saw, it will help us avenge him, you want that, don’t you?”
The boy nodded “I am an orphan so Alpha Hallus let me stay with him and his son, I was asleep in my room when the alarms went off and Alpha Hallus came and woke me up and said to go hide in the safe room”
“But I’m guessing you didn’t do that, did you?”
Eugene shook his head “I was worried about the Alpha, he’d been getting threats from someone and I thought he was in danger” He went on “Alpha had been teaching me to fight so I wanted to help”
“You were very brave to want to help him”
“It didn’t matter” He said sadly “When I found the Alpha and his son Bennet in the woods, they were on their knees and tied up by something invisible and there was another Alpha there, I didn’t see his face, it was dark and he was wearing a hood and there was another two men and girl, the Alpha was yelling at the girl to take his powers”
“To take them?” My mother sounded nervous
“Yes your majesty” Eugene nodded “But the girl said no, she was crying and said she wouldn’t help him hurt people anymore and that one of them was just a boy, so the Alpha grabbed her by her throat and choked her until she passed out, then he told one of the other men to take her home and put her in the shed to wait for his return”
A shed? Did he have some poor girl locked up in a shed, even now?
“Then what happened?” My father asked
“The bad Alpha touched Alpha Hallus’s chest and his hand started to glow and Alpha started to scream” Eugene told us as tears fell down his face “Then the bad Alpha killed him and did the same thing to Bennett”
“Did you use what the other looked like?”
“No” He shook his head “The girl was blonde, but I couldn’t see her face”
“Thank you child” My mother said before looking at the guard again “Take him and make sure he is cared for”
“Yes your majesty”
“Send a sketch artist to the child to see if he can identify the others” My father said to another guard, who bowed and left the throne room.
“We should send out troops to investigate the woods around Hallus’s pack, they may have left clues” Ryker suggested,
“Get it done” My mother ordered
“So an Alpha is killing others to take their powers” I looked up at my parents “But why?”
“Sebastian” My father looked at one of the councilors “Go make sure my brother is secure and double the guard’s”
“Yes sir” Sebastian said and rushed out of the throne room.
I hadn’t seen my father nervous like this, and he rarely spoke about his twin brother who’d betrayed him and began the war all those decades ago
“You think your brother is responsible for these attacks?” Ryker asked and for some reason he looked guilty, what was that about??
“Perhaps” My father looked at me with a frown “How is your mates Lycan?”
“What?” I asked on surprise at his sudden change of topics “I don’t know, she’s still weak, Madelyn hasn’t shifted yet if thats what you’re asking”
“I want to know the second she shifts”
“Why?”
“I don’t have to explain myself to you boy, just let me know”
“Okay” I frowned in confusion and looked at my mother
“Councilor Troy” My mother avoided my eyes and looked at someone else “You mentioned an issue with the crops in the west field”
The subjects continued to grow more boring after that but my mind was elsewhere, I couldn’t figure out why my father cared about Ava so much? He hardly even cared about Knox and Flynn.
Finally the meeting wrapped up, and I asked my father to speak with him privately to get some information on Madelyna mother for her, but he refused and said he and my mother were too busy today so I let it go and returned to my office to get some work done.
Finally, hours later, I was done for the day, so I pushed my chair back and stretched as I stood up.
