Her bedroom was very large and made up of two separate rooms, but most of the furniture was covered in white sheets laid with dust, but otherwise the room was clean, it was obvious that no one had entered the room in years.
“I wonder why they hid her room?” Dane asked, but I shrugged, I had no more information than he did.
I began to wander around the beautiful room with dark stone flooring and large blue rugs, smiling to myself when I noticed that a lot of the objects in the room were blue. We had something in common, we both loved blue.
I pulled the sheet off of the bed and coughed a little when dust got up my nose and saw a stunning wooden bed with delicate carvings in the wood which I reached out and touched. It was beautiful.
I felt tears fill my eyes, my mother had touched this bed too. It was odd for me, my entire life I’d hated her for abandoning me, but even then I’d wondered about her and her life and now that I knew the truth, I wanted to know about her even more, what was her favorite color, what was her favorite book, who was her first love, her favorite food, what was her Lycan like?
Without being too noticeable, I scanned the bed, looking for anything that would give me the truth about my mother, maybe she had a diary or kept things hidden in the bed, but there was nothing there. On her bedside table was a picture frame with her picture in it. She was standing next to a gorgeous red-haired woman in a long silver gown. My mother looked young and similar to the women next to her. Was this her sister?
I decided to keep this picture. If I got in trouble for it, then I would accept it and placed the frame on the bed to collect later before opening a drawer of her bedside table, but there was no diary inside either, just a few random books. I pulled them out and saw that they were just about the Lycan kingdom, so I placed them back.
“Was your mother married?” Dane asked.
I turned and realized he’d gone into the walk-in on the other side of the room that had a gorgeous carving over the doorway
“I don’t know” I told him “Why do you ask?”
I went into the walk-in and saw a very pretty floor-length dress sitting on a mannequin and looking very dusty like everything else in the room.
My mind began to race. Who did she marry? Was it my dad?
“Theres a ripped picture” He pointed to a picture on the ground which I lifted
It was ripped in half and there was a young handsome man wearing a tux.
“That’s Beta Ryker”
“I haven’t met him yet” I frowned “Do you think he was the groom?”
“Cant be” Dane told me “He’s been married to his mate for decades”
“He may have ruined her wedding or something” I suggested. Why else would my mother rip his picture up.
The more I found out today, the more questions I had. Why couldn’t the note person, have told me everything? Why send me here? If he’d wanted to help me out, he could have just told me everything about my mother.
I left the walk-in and scanned the room again, I couldn’t see a diary anywhere, maybe it was hidden under the bed.
“Can you please wait outside?” I asked as Dane came out of the walk-in.
“I can’t, Luna, I’m sorry, but I promised the Alpha I wouldn’t leave your side”
“There’s literally no one in here” I pointed out “It’s an empty room, I’m not in danger, please, I just want a moment alone in my mother’s room before we leave”
Dane looked troubled, but finally he nodded ‘I will wait by the door and the Alpha’s don’t hear about this’
I giggled “Our secret”
I waited for him to leave and stand guard and I quickly and quietly ducked down and crawled under the bed and began to search, I didn’t find anything and was losing all hope when I noticed a rip in the bottom of the mattress and put my hand inside and found something at last. A small leather-bound book with a lock and the word Diary written on the front and a strange bundle.
I got back onto my feet, patted off all the dust and opened the cloth bundle to see a very stunning necklace with a large red gem, the more I stared at the gem, the more alive it appeared to me, it was if fire was burning inside of it, what was this gem?
Noises started coming from downstairs and I looked over at the door.
“Luna, I think the staff are getting ready to begin the tours”
“Okay” I wrapped up the necklace again and gathered my picture from the bed that I’d decided to steal and held everything to my chest “We can go now”
Dane looked at my hoard and frowned a little “Luna, I’m not sure if you’re allowed to take anything”
“They belonged to my mother” I reminded him “That makes them mine”
I shut the bedroom door and jumped back in surprise when the allusion spell activated again.
“Well that’s handy” Dane commented “I thought we’d get in trouble for finding the room”
The noises got louder from downstairs, so we hustled and rushed back downstairs, but I paused when I saw a baby picture of the twins.
“It that Koda and Jaxson?” I asked and pointed to the picture on the wall.
Dane smiled “It is”
“They were so cute”
They would have been around 2 years old and wearing cute little suits and being held by the King and Queen in a garden setting.
“There will be a new baby in the pack soon Luna” Dane smiled and I blushed.
“Let’s go”
MADELYN’S POV
Once I was seated in the car, I began to flick through my mother’s stolen diary.
She’d drawn pictures throughout the pages, and she was very talented. There were a lot of pictures of dragons and Phoenix’s, all of which seemed to act out some kind of battle.
I turned to a random page and read.
“I hate it here!” My mother had scrawled in a very neat cursive that I couldn’t manage if my life depended on it “I miss mom, I miss home, I missed the keepers, everything here smells so strange, kind of like a wet dog”
I giggled quietly at her complaint and read on.
“It isn’t FARE” She wrote in bold letters “This stupid exchange won’t help me shift or molt”
Molt? I wondered, what’s that?
“And everyone here is so strange and formal” she complained “Fenrir is normal but everyone else has some kind of stick lodged up their butts and the Queen insists on me calling her mother, AS IF!…”
I frowned, so… my mother had been forced to come here. She still had a mother but the queen adopted her anyway?
“I wrote to daddy, but he won’t come and get me until I molt” She mentioned this strange molt again “I hate him, I hate this place, I hate everyone!”
I felt awful for my mother, she must have felt so alone.
I skipped a few pages and continued reading. A part of me felt bad for invading her private thoughts but I’d never gotten to know her. This was my only chance at some kind of relationship with her.
“We spent the day at the river” She’d confided in her diary “And as per usual, Theo showed off, flipping out of trees and proving to everyone how strong he was, everyone thinks he’ll run the Kingdom alone because Fenrir is so quiet and weak but he’s worth a million of Theo’
