“What’s your name?”
“Molly, your majesty
“Do you want to be the Luna’s personal maid?” Evet asked her as if this was a normal request for a stranger
The girls eyes lit up and held her hands together in front of her body ‘Oh really, I would love to”
“But.. don’t you have a job already?” I asked quickly, I didn’t know how I felt about having a maid
“Yes Luna but I’d really love to be your maid” She said quickly “Please, please, please”
“Alright girl, enough” Evet ordered and Molly stood up straighter “The jobs yours, Charlotte, take Molly to the maids quarters and have her change her uniform and she can shadow you for a week to learn the ropes before she starts taking care of Maddie”
“Ahh… I’m so excited” Molly celebrated, her energy was contagious
“Yes, yes, be excited and start walking” Charlotte ordered “We need to go speak with your supervisor”
The two women walked away and Evet smiled at me “So.. coffee?”
“I don’t know if Koda would like that” I told her “He was worried about me going somewhere alone”
“You’re not alone” She linked her arm with mine and began walking me back down the way I’d just come “I’ll link him and tell him I’m stealing you for an hour’
She pulled me along with her in silence, but once we went into the elevators, she turned and smiled “Cody said it’s okay but threatened to end me if you get hurt, so no juggling knives or anything”
“I’ll keep that in mind” I smiled, I really liked Evet. Was this what it was like to a have a friend?
Evet was very chatting, more so today than yesterday, and she started pointing out pack members we passed, telling me who to avoid and who was trustworthy and a few men she said to stay away from because they were sl*ts.
We went down a long hallway and into a pretty cafe within the tower that was covered in flowers with pink and white table cloths and pretty wolf statues placed throughout the cafe.
A chubby older woman showed us to a table and offered to get us our drinks on the house and was very excited to meet me, which was a new experience for me.
I took advantage of Evet’s knowledge of my mates and asked for funny embarrassing stories and got very invested in her tales when she paused and looked over my shoulder.
“Why is that wolf glaring at you?”
I turned and saw Luna Morgan and Skyler drinking coffee and eating some snacks and I felt awful, Luna Morgan looked exhausted and a little less put together then she usually was
“She’s my luna.. um, old Luna”
“Oh” Evet said angrily “B*tch has some nerve to give you the stink eye after everything they’ve put you through”
“She never did anything to me” I whispered to Evet who leaned back and sipped her tea “I should say something”
“Fine, let’s go” She stood up and I quickly followed her to my feet, and together we walked over to Luna Morgans table where she was glaring at me
“Hello Luna” I said nervously and began to fidget with my fingers as I joined her
“Your majesty” She said testily
“You don’t have to call me that”
“Yes she does” Evet said firmly “She might be a Luna, but she’s still beneath you”
“Evet please” I pleaded, but she sighed and crossed her arms while glaring at Luna Morgan “I know you hate me and I hate that I hurt you, but I couldn’t accept Scott, he really isn’t the person you think he is”
“She doesn’t want to hear your lies again” Sky snapped and stood up
“You know full well that I’m not lying”
“If he was so horrible, then why didn’t you say anything before you met the princes?” Luna Morgan asked “You just want to manipulate everyone to think we’re awful so you don’t have to accept Scott and you’ll get to a Queen instead, I didn’t realize you were so power hungry!”
“I’m not and you know it” I snapped “I want the twins because they’re amazing and not because they’re going to be Kings, in face, I wish they weren’t and I didn’t tell you about Scott or Sky” I added and looked at her “Because you wouldn’t believe me and Alpha Troy would have hurt me”
“You are such a liar” Sky shouted “Do you really expect my mother to believe you over us, you ruined our family with your lies and the Alpha’s are going to see eventually that you’re trash and”
Evet stepped forward and slapped Sky hard across the face, knocking her backwards so that she fell back on her chair, what was with this family and slapping people?
“Speak to her like that again and I will have you thrown into the prison” Evet said in warning as Sky held her cheek with tears in her eyes
“Evet please stop” I begged “Don’t hit her” I turned back to Luna Morgan “I know this is hard for you but if you want to know the truth then go into the woods by the lake and go into the shed with the white door, you’ll see who your mate truly is, I’m sorry”
I turned and walked away and picked up the diaries and photo to leave when I realized there was a new item among them, an envelope, I looked around but I didn’t notice anyone walking away from mine and Evet’s table, who ever put it here had gone
“Are you okay?” Evet asked and touched my shoulder gently.
“I’m okay” I lied, I was terrible “I’m going to go now, thank you for the coffee”
“Any time darling” She smiled and I quickly walked away and went straight to the twin’s suite and curled up in the bed and opened it.
‘Madelyn’ I read the message in the same hand writing, as the other note ‘I’m glad you went to the pack house, did you find the diaries, did you find the necklace, it’s a family heirloom, and I’m sure your mother would want you to have it but don’t let anyone know you have it yet, it’s very powerful and until you can control it, keep it secret’
I rolled onto my back and continued to read
‘I wish I could see you in person but, until your molt, I’m not allowed’ I read on, wondering once again what a molt was ‘But our laws don’t prevent me from helping you behind the scenes, I need to know if your molt will happen soon, your mother molted during her 21st year, place your hand in a fire and if it doesn’t burn, your molt is coming, if you do it and don’t burn, wear your hair up in a braid tomorrow, so I can know…. yours, your keeper’
I laid on the bed, reading the letter over and over… my keeper? Molt? This keeper could have given me more details, unless the information is in my mother’s journal?
I climbed off the bed and walked over to the fireplace and started a fire… I shouldn’t do this, am I crazy, I’m trusting some complete stranger who wants me to put my hand in a fire…
I looked at the flame and hesitated but finally I reached in and froze when the flame didn’t hurt me, what the h*ll…..
KODA’S POV
I stretched and pulled on my jacket as I left the office, I was really eager to see Maddie, she hadn’t come back to my office after her coffee with Evet but her guard Dane had told me she had gone home and when I linked Julia to check on Maddie, she told me that Maddie was in her room reading and didn’t want to be disturbed.
I followed her delectable scent to my bedroom and found her sitting on the ground by an open fire and reading a book, I frowned in confusion, it was a warm evening, why would she want a fire
‘Baby’ I said and she jumped a little in surprise but then she smiled
‘Cody’
I loved the sound of her voice and my ego inflated by the delight in her tone, I pulled off my jacket and threw it on the chair before going over and sitting by her side
‘How was the rest of your day baby’ I asked as I kissed her softly on the lips.
“Good”
