I didn’t like this, would I have to sit above others when I was Queen?
Koda softly squeezed my hand as we slowly walked up the King and Queen, both of whom were wearing casual looking crowns, the Queens matched her lovely black and gold dress, would I ever look as elegant and powerful as her when I wore that crown?
‘Your majesty’ Koda bowed to them so I quickly followed his lead and bowed
‘Hello your majesties’ I said quickly and Koda smiled at me and we both stood up straighter again.
‘Welcome Madelyn’ The Queen smiled kindly at me ‘How are you settling in dear?’
‘It’s a big change’ I admitted ‘But’ I looked at Koda and blushed a little ‘I’m really happy’
‘I hope my sons have been treating you well’ The King commented
‘They have’ I assured him ‘They’re the best’
‘Well I wouldn’t go that far’ The Queen teased and smiled at Koda who rolled his eyes and shook his head ‘But they’re alright, however if they start mistreating you, come to me at once and I will make them pay for it’
‘We’d never hurt her’ Koda sounded extremely offended
‘Good’ Queen Kara said firmly ‘But we will talk about this another time, we have invited you here for a reason’
‘You understand why you’re here?’ The King asked and I nodded
‘Yes sir’
‘Good’ He say back in his chair ‘Koda, go sit down and we’ll begin’
Koda looked at me and kissed my hands before sitting down ‘Just tell them the truth and this will be over soon’
I felt very nervous to be standing there in front of the King and Queen with all other eyes on me.
‘Alpha Troy of Calco pack has made claims that you belong with his son’ King Theo said loudly ‘Please explain your relationship with Scott’
I began to fidget with my fingers and took a breath ‘Scott is Alpha Troys son, we grew up together but I always hated him and then while we were here for the Ball, we found out we were mates but I rejected him and then I met the twins later’
‘So you do not want him?’ Queen Kara asked
‘No’
‘And you didn’t want him prior to meeting the twins?’ The man from earlier, Beta Ryker asked
I glared at him, I’d read more of my mothers journals and it turned out that she’d loved him once but he’d broken her heart, I didn’t know the exact details as some of the pages had been ripped out of the diary but I got enough of the situation to know that he’d broken her heart and I didn’t like him on principal but now I knew that he was Blake’s father and wanted him away from me even more.
“Yes” I answered before turning my back on him again, though not before I registered his confused look at my cold response.
How could the King let someone be his Beta after he broke his sister’s heart, was beyong me
“Why did you hate the boy?” Another man asked and I turned to look at him
“Baby, this is Gema Dobre” Koda told me ‘He owns several of the farms in the area, among other businesses’
‘Hello’ I said politely “I hate him because he is cruel and uses people and I don’t think he’ll be a good Alpha, I was never going to stand by his side’
“But you’ll stand by a King?” Another man asked ‘How convenient”
Koda growled and I looked at him “Watch it Jordan”
“I didn’t accept Koda and Jaxson because of their static” I said quickly and a little annoyed “I did it because…”
“Because why?” A women asked but I blushed
“Because they feel like home” I admitted and looked down at my feet
“Good enough for me” The Queen announced “I don’t see any reason to continue this discussion, she belongs to my son’s”
“It’s settled then” King Theo clapped once “The treaty was not broken, Alpha Troys claims are not valid and are dismissed, make it publicly known to the other werewolf Alphas that this is what has been determined”
“Madelyn dear, you’re free to go” Queen Kara smiled at me “But I want you to come see me some time this week so we can start your training to take over my position, Koda, make sure to check with my Beta to organize a day”
“Yes your majesty” Koda answered and looked at me with a smile
“What about the other matter?” Jordan asked “We established that the Luna didn’t break the treaty but Alpha Troys other accusations must be addressed”
“What accusations?” Koda asked angrily “If you mean that bullsh*t about her being unstable and violent then you can shove it!”
“Koda!” The King shouted angrily
I looked at Koda in confusion, what had Alpha Troy told them?
My heart started to race with fear. Did he tell them that I’d killed people, did he tell them that I’d taken their powers, I’d only done it because he’d forced me. Surely he wouldn’t have told them, he’d get in trouble too.
“We cannot have a Queen who is unstable” Jordan went on
“I will show you unstable if you keep trying to push this narrative!” Koda stood up and marched towards the man but I cut his path and placed my hands on his chest to stop him.
“It’s alright” I said quickly, I didn’t want Koda to get in trouble again because of me, I couldn’t stand it if he got hurt again.
“No it’s not!” Koda shouted and pointed to Jordan “I will not have people think you’re crazy, how much did Troy pay you to turn against your own kind, what does he have on you?”
“Koda that is a serious accusation!” King Theo slammed his hand down on the arm rest of his chair
“Well what other explanation do you have for a member of our council to try and slander their future Queen?” Koda asked his parents “He’s obviously in Troy’ pocket!”
“I am not in Troys pocket!” Jordan napped “I care about the future of our people and if your mate is like her mother, then we should not allow her to take the throne!”
I frowned and turned to him in confusion “What do you mean, like my mother?”
“ENOUGH!” King Theo shouted and I cringed in fear “Leave my sister out of this discussion or I will rip your throat out!”
“We are here to discuss Madelyn, not Iyarna” Queen Kara said quickly
I was so confused, what had my mother done that was so bad, she’d created the werewolves yes, but why did everyone hate her for that?
Was my mother violent and crazy? She didn’t come across that way in her diary.
I looked at Beta Ryker who seemed upset and his hand was balled into a fist
“Then let’s discuss it!” Jordan shouted but the King growled and he sank back
