“Are you ready?” Jax asked her
“Yes” She answered in her shy way but there was also a tone of excitement in her voice.
Jax removed his hands and Maddie blinked a few times before her eyes widened and she took in the display around the room.
“Wow” She smiled and covered her mouth with her hands before turning back us “You did this for me?”
The sound of confusion, delight and disbelief in her voice hurt me, it reminded me that until now, she’d had no one and those she did have in her life had never put in any effort for her.
“Of course, sweetheart” Jax told her as he brushed some loose strands of hair back behind her ear “We would do anything for you”
“Baby” I stepped closer to her “We know you’ve had a horrible life and one day soon, we really hope you’ll trust us enough to open up about everything but your life will never be that way again”
“He’s right” Jax agreed “You are going to be taken care of now and protected and loved”
Madelyn’s eyes widened again as tears filled them.
“I love you Maddie” I told her
“I love you” Jax said as well and the tears fell down her cheeks
“I..I love you both too” She said through tears
“We’re your family now” I told her happily and touched her arm “And we want to spend the rest of our lives with you, if you’ll truly have us”
“I will” She nodded happily and wiped her cheeks
“Thank you Madelyn” Jax smiled and kissed her.
Once they broke apart, I pulled her to me and kissed her softly and walked her backwards towards the bed.
Once we reached it, I gently pushed her down and finally broke the embrace as I sat beside her.
Jax who’d followed us, knelt in front of her and passed her the gift I’d pulled from the safe
“For you”
“You didn’t have to get me anything” She scolded us, though her tone was full of joy “This is already so much”
“What’s one more gift then” I kissed her cheek “Go on, open it”
I got lost in her happy smile as she ripped open the wrapping paper and opened the case to find a beautiful blue diamond bracelet that sparkled in the light of the candles Julia had lit for us before leaving the suite
“Oh my” Madelyn looked up at us “It’s lovely, thank you”
She reached over and hugged us both at the same time.
“You can wear it later” Jax told her as he took the gift and placed it on the bedside table “Right now I’d rather you weren’t wearing anything”
Madelyn gulped nervously and fidgeted with hand hands on her lap in the nervous way she did so I took her hands.
“We are the only ones in this entire world whom you don’t have to be nervous or afraid of” I kissed hand hands “We will never hurt you”
“We’d rather die” Jax added before pulling her in and kissing her.
Maddie began to moan and ran her fingers into Jax’s long hair while I slipped my hand down her thigh, I’d just made it to her underwear when she pulled back and gasped
“Maddie?” I looked at her in alarm as she shoved Jax out of the way and screamed in pain
“MADELYN!” Jax was by her side in a second “WHATS WRONG?”
Maddie screamed in pain again as her claws came out and dug into the flooring and Flynn began to get very alert.
“MATE!” He shouted outloud
“Sh*t” I looked at my brother who’s eyes had shifted too, Knox had taken control and I could feel Flynn trying to do the same with me so I allowed it to happen
Maddie cried out again and turned around so that her back was against the wall, she pulled her knees up and hugged them as she frantically looked around, only her eyes had shifted, it wasn’t Maddie in control right now, it was Ava.
“Ava?” Flynn asked cautiously
“WHO ARE YOU?!” She screamed and looked around “WHERE AM I?!”
“Mate, it’s okay” Knox reached to touch her but she growled in warning so he withdrew his hand
“Mate?”
“Can’t you smell it, we’re your mates?” Flynn asked with a slight hurt edge in his voice
Ava looked around again “Where’s Maddie?!” She confused us by asking “I can’t hear her!”
What? That was strange, Maddie should be in her mind like I was in mine, she should have been able to talk to Ava
“Ava” Knox said gently “Please try to stay calm, Madelyn is inside of you, you have control of her body right now, you’ve been asleep for a long time but it’s going to be okay”
“What’s a long time?” She asked and looked around the room in confusion
“3 years” Flynn answered
“3 years?!” Her eyes widened “So.. Maddie was all alone with that monster, you have to stop him, Alpha Troy he’s”
“Shh, it’s alright” Knox said quickly and cautiously touched her arm, her eyes shot down and she growled lightly again but this time Knox didn’t move “Troy is getting taken care of, he’s run off but we’ll find and kill him”
Ava looked from my brother’s hand up into his eyes and then on his neck
“You’re not marked” She pointed out “You’re lying about us being mates!”
“No baby” Flynn said quickly as he scooted closed to her “We only met Maddie a few days ago, we were just about to mate and mark each other when you woke up and we’re so thrilled you did, I’m so happy to meet you”
“We both are” Flynn added “And so is Koda and Jaxson”
“Koda and Jaxson?”
“Our hosts” Knox answered as he lent closer and sniffed the air “You smell so good”
Ava looked us over and sniffed the air too, I guess she’d been to afraid to really register our scents but now she could smell that we weren’t lying.
“You really are our mates”
