I reached over and grabbed Koda’s jacket to pull him back and we both stood out of the way.
“Okay baby” Koda spoke calmly “Let it happen”
Madelyns face was peaceful at first but then her hands clenched into fists and her face contorted in pain
“Stay with it” I told her firmly “Don’t fight”
“It’s hurts”
Those words were enough to have be stepping forward to help her but Koda grabbed me and shook his head.
“She has to go through it on her own, don’t interfere”
He put up a good front but I could hear the pain in his voice, he hated this as much as I did.
After a few seconds, Madelyn’s claws extended and she cried out and fell to the ground on all fours and started breathing hard.
Koda quickly squatted to keep her eye level, in the hopes to soothe her but it was clear that it wasn’t helping as she screamed again and the sounds of her bones breaking echoed through the woods.
“It’s okay baby” Koda said gently as tears filled his eyes “It will be over soon”
But it wasn’t, what ever those cuffs had done to her, had left their mark and instead of a quick few minutes, her shift was going on a twenty minutes now.
“Let’s just stop this!” Koda had moved over to Madelyn and was rubbing his hand over her back as one more of her bones broke and she wept “Ava’s still not strong enough”
“If we stop now, the last twenty minutes will have been for nothing” I snapped and punched the tree beside me “We have to coach her out!”
“How?”
Madelyn screamed again as her round teeth morphed into sharp predatorial ones.
I ran my hands through my hair at a loss of what to do and Knox growled in pain.
Knox?… That’s it
“We need to shift” I told Koda as I pulled off my robe “Her mate’s presence should be enough to bring her forward”
“Do you think?”
“It’s worth a try!” I snapped “Hurry the f*ck up, do you want to sit here and watch her screaming for another twenty minutes?!”
“I hope this works”
Koda started to undress as Madelyn’s spine finally broke and she screamed and curled in on herself
I was the first to shift and Knox shook out his fur and limbs but Koda had frozen as he looked over at us.
“What?” I linked him as he dropped his robe on the ground with a dumbfounded look on his face.
“Your fur” He pointed out and Knox looked down at his leg
“What about it?” Knox asked “Looks normal to me”
“No” Koda shook his head “There’s a blue flame pattern around your throat and a weird pattern in your marking area”
Madelyn screamed again and we forgot all about Knox’s fur as he rushed over to her and laid down.
“Mate” He nudged her with his nose and whined softly but all Madelyn did was cry.
“I want to stop!” She begged “Ava’s scared, she can’t push through, something’s wrong”
“I know it hurts mate” Knox said softly and nudged her once more “But you have to keep going, Ava you have to fight, do you hear me!?”
“I can’t!” Ava cried into our minds as I heard Koda shift behind me “Please, I want to go home, Maddie will die, she’s lost so much blood!”
I cringed at her words, a lot of her bones had broken through her skin, only for her to heal and have to begin to begin all over again.
“Ava!” Flynn shouted into our minds “Now you listen to me mate, you have to do this, you can do this, you’re a Luna, you’re stronger then you know, now fight through the pain”
“Please mate” Knox pleaded “Don’t you want to be with us, you can do this, you are stronger then whatever those cuffs did to you, fight!”
Knox whimpered and nudged her once more in encouragement as Madelyns screams grew louder.
“Maybe we should get one of the healers?” Koda suggested in desperation but he knew we couldn’t
“She’s white, you know we can’t let anyone see her”
“Then I don’t know what else we can try!” He shouted “This isn’t working, Maddie, stop, don’t keep trying, just pull back now baby”
“NO!” Knox shouted as he stood up and faced Flynn “SHE HAS TO DO THIS!”
“SHE IS TOO WEAK!” Flynn shouted back and stood in front of his twin “SHE ISNT LIKE US, SHE’S BEEN ABUSED AND NEGLECTED, NOT TO MENTION WHAT THOSE CUFFS DID, SHE COULD BE DAMAGED IN WAYS WE CANT FIX JUST WITH MOTIVATIONAL SPEECHES!”
Knox growled angrily as Madelyn screamed out again but this time her arm began to grow fur and we both looked over at her.
“Maddie?!” Koda said in alarm and excitement “You can do it!”
“I thought motivational speeches didn’t work”
“Shut up!” I snapped
We one last scream, Ava finally broke through and Madelyn’s entire body shifted, we tried to move back quickly but one of Ava’s claws hit Flynn in the leg and he winced in pain.
“Sh*t” Knox rushed over to his twin “Are you okay?”
“It’ll heal” Flynn licked his wound as Knox turned back to Ava.
“Wow” Knox’s mouth hung open “Ava… you are so beautiful!”
“Lets go for a run” Ava said eagerly and shook out her fur “I feel so stiff”
“We should let you rest first” Flynn suggested “You and Maddie just had a horrible ordeal”
“Scr*w that noise” Ave rolled her eyes and took off “Keep up old men!”
We looked at each other and laughed at her audacity before looking back at her running towards a thick grouping of tree’s
“HURRY UP BEFORE YOU DIE OF OLD AGE!” Ava linked us loudly and laughed
