“WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!” I shouted and shoved Ezra against the car, smashing the windows “I TOLD YOU TO NEVER COME BACK!”
“Really?” Ezra rolled his eyes “It’s been decades, you really need to get over it and stop living in the past, besides, everything worked out, stop being a little b*tch”
I growled again as I looked at my brother and the guilt and memories started rushing back
FLASH BACK
Jax paced up and down in the tent, furiously throwing his sword onto the ground and growling, I wanted to comfort him but I didn’t know what to say
“THIS IS SUCH BULLSH*T!” He shouted at our father and grandfather who looked bored as usual “HE CHEATED!”
“And we know it Jaxson, calm down!” Our father said impatiently “You’re 21 so stop acting like you’re 6 and get control of your emotions”
“I keep telling you that you coddle these two too much!” Grandfather commented and took a sip of his drink.
“How I raise my boys is none of you concern!” Dad shouted and turned back to Jax “Listen, I get it, you’re p*ssed, I would be too but he didn’t know he wasn’t allowed to shift, hows your shoulder?”
“I’ve healed!” He said angrily and roated his arm to prove it
Jax had been fightinng Alpha Ambroz, a dragon leader who had come for the yearly tournament that we threw while we renewed our peace treaty with the dragons.
Jax was gaining the upper hand when Ambroz shifted and his wings shot out and threw Jax to the ground and dislocating his shoulder.
I’d never felt fear like I felt, when I saw him go down and ran into the arena but by the time I reached him, he was already getting up.
“Stop fussing” Grandfather snapped “The boys fine and Ambroz won, you might not like how, but he did and we technically don’t have rules stopping dragons from shifting”
“So he wins on a technicality?” I defended Jax “How can you let that pr*ck win by cheating!?”
“Koda shut up!” Dad snarled “When you’re good enough to actually qualify to be in the tournament, you can have an oppinion, but until then, keep your dam thoughts to yourself, Jax, listen, being a King, means, that sometimes, you have to make sacrafices, if we let this go and announce Ambroz as the winner, it will help during the negotiations”
“So I have to let that cheating b*stard win, so the treaty negotiations will go easier!?” He snarled “What’s to stop them from doing this every year?!”
“We will change the rules so they can’t” Dad told him “Now, grow up, Ambroz is the winner and I expect you our there in ten minutes to announce it”
Our dad and grandfather left and Jax screamed in rage and kicked one of the tent polls, cracking it and shaking the tent.
“I’m getting even for this sh*t!” Jax declared and stormed out of the tent, leaving me standing alone
After I confided in Cole and Ezra who was also here for the tournament, we came up with a plan of revenge to get even with Ambroz for cheating and winning the tournament.
He’d come with his mate, so we were going to make it look like she’d cheated on him and get even, we even paid one of the servants to leave our fake proof of the affair. Luckily for me, Jax had actually slept with her, years ago before she met Ambroz, so we knew exactly what to leave behind in order for Ambroze to believe the lie and then we sat back and watched the destruction.
Ambroz was furious and started threatening to reject her and it was a great pleasure to see how devastated Ambroz looked, especially during the next meeting.
I thought Jax would be thrilled that I’d had his back, but when I confessed to the ruse after we’d set everything up, he wasn’t happy and started shouting at me.
“Jax calm down!’ I laughed, why was he over reacting, I was just trying to help him out, doesn’t that count for something? “I didn’t do anything wrong!”
“THIS COULD BREAK THE F*CKING TREATY!” Jax shoved me “DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU’VE DONE, THIS COULD START ANOTHER WAR!”
Ezra laughed and rolled his eyes “Would you chill out!” He said to Jax in a bored tone “THE B*ASTARD DESERVED IT”
“SHUT THE F*CK UP!” Jax shouted and shoved him onto his ass before turning back to me “WHAT THE F*CK IS WRONG WITH YOU CODY!? EVERTIME YOU GET AROUND EZRA, YOU TURN INTO A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PERSON, I’M SO SICK OF IT, COME FIND ME WHEN MY BROTHER COMES BACK!”
Jax refused to talk to me for the rest of the day but the next morning during breakfast, I appologies and said I’d make things right and confess, so he agreed to meet up later with Cole and Ezra and make a plan and then we each went off to perform our duties.
“Where the hell is Jax!?” I complained and looked over at Cole and Ezra “We said we’d meet at 3”
“No clue’ Cole shrugged “He was talking to your grandfather when I left, link him”
Ezra laughed and we looked over at him “He’s not coming, he’s probably getting punished by now”
“What are you talking about?” I asked in confusion
“You said, you wanted a plan, so I made one, I set Jax up to take the fall for the fake afair by telling your grandfather Jax was just upset about losing and had wanted revenge” Ezra laughed again and hit my arm “I paid off the witness to say it was Jax and not you, your granddad was livid”
“WHAT!?” I was in shock, had I heard correctly right now? “Why would you do that?!”
“What’s wrong?” He asked “I did it for you’
“For me?!” I shouted “How is this for me!?”
“Jax is always looking down on you” Ezra commented “You heard him earlier when he lectured you, he’s too full of himself, you just wait, he’ll take the throne from you when you come of age and you know it, he see’s himself as more of an Alpha than you, he deserves to take the blame”
I grabbed Ezra and slammed him into the wall by his throat “DO YOU REALLY I’D LET YOU DO THIS! PACK YOUR DAM BAGS AND LEAVE!”
I ran back down the garden path and into the throne room but it was empty, I tried linking Jax, parents and grandparents but no one answered so I tried a few of the guards and found out that they were at the arena.
I ran as fast as I could and cut through the gardens, jumping over hedges and finally made it to the arena and found Jax on his knees and shirtless in front of one of our guards who was holding a whip.
My eyes widened when I saw blood on the ground and pain in Jax’s face.
“STOP!” I shouted but my grandfather’s guards blocked me, I saw my parents sitting in the crowd of a few people, all looking furious “PLEASE, STOP!’
I shoved the guards away and ran over to my parents and fell to my knees “It wasn’t Jax, the witness lied, it was me!”
“STOP!” My father shouted and held up his hand to stop the guard from hitting Jax again
I quickly explained everything and my parents looked furious, my grandfather stood up and glared at me.
“Jaxson, why did you confess?!” He asked
“He’s my brother” Jax responded without missing a beat and I felt guilt fill my entire being.
“You stupid child!” Dad shouted “Get up, Koda.. take his place”
“NO!” Jax shakily rose to his feet “I’ve already been punished, why hurt Koda too”
“You lied to me” Dad pointed out “That is now your punished for that, Koda, go!”
I bowed and walked out onto the arena and after helping Jax back to the seating area, I returned to the gaurd and got down on my knees and took my punishment.
Over the next ten minutes, I took hit after hit, feeling my back split open and I kept in a scream with every hit until finally, my father held up his hand again.
“You will appologise to Ambroz and his mate” Dad ordered as I breathed hard and tried to stop myself from passing out “And you will go to the border for the next 6 months and work with the guards and wehn you return, I expect you to have grown up, you leave at dawn, now get out of my site!”
Everyone left and I fell forward onto my hands and tried to breath normally, I was focused on taking breaths when I felt someone sit down next to me
