Alpha Troy had never let me go to any of the taverns in the pack and truthfully, I never had a desire to, so I wasn’t exactly looking forward to tonight, but went along because the twins seemed eager.
I was a little jealous that they wanted to spend the night around all of these alphas and pack members instead of spending time alone with me.
I was being an insecure, spoiled child, who wanted her mates to herself, and I knew it, but in my defense, I’d never had a family, or anyone who loved and cared for me, and I didn’t want to share that right now, I wanted to keep this feeling for a little longer.
The tavern smelled of booze, varnish and sandalwood which the tavern was built out of, and I crinkled my nose in response.
There was a long wooden bar to my left and about 30 round tables, in front of me and to my right, where pack members were already drinking.
In between the tables, people were standing around, talking animatedly and laughing while music played in the background.
The entire place was lit two big chandeliers and an open fireplace tucked in the corner, where about 6 armchairs were occupied by older-looking men, who were smoking from pipes.
I felt a little overdressed, as most were wearing older-looking clothing and judging by the copious amounts of spilled alcohol on the ground, I knew why, no women here, wanted their clothing ruined, so they wore older outfit’s.
“KODA!” Cole waved from a table in the back, where he was sitting with two men and three women. Mercifully, one of the women, was Avet “JAX!”
Koda waved but pulled me towards the bar instead “Dean!” He called out to the bar tender, an old Asian man with only one eye and a long scar down his face, from his right eyebrow, to his chin “Three beers!”
“I don’t want beer” I told him as I gripped the sleeve of his jacket, but he laughed
“Who says any of those beers are for you” He joked but Jax just hit him upside the head and turned back to Dean.
“Just make it two beers and a lemonade”
Dean looked at me with a strange glare before nodding and turning his back.
“Go sit, I’ll bring the drinks” Jax kissed my cheek and Koda began to pull me over to the table Cole was sitting.
“About time you showed up” Coles leaned back and placed his arm over Evets shoulders “I’ve had to entertain everyone alone”
Koda pulled a chair out for me as Evet shoved Cole away
“Sitting on your ass drinking doesn’t count as entertaining” She pointed out as I sat down “Also, if one doesn’t have time to shower, then one shouldn’t lift one’s arms”
We all laughed, but Cole just nudged Evet playfully.
“Everyone” Koda looked around “This is Maddie.. Madelyn” He corrected “Your future Queen”
“Hello Luna” One of the blonde women smiled at me “I’m Kira, Luna of Shell pack and this is Alpha Corey”
“Hello” I smiled back shyly “You run the pack near the ocean, right?”
I’d been reading up on the Alphas and the packs since they’d arrived today.
“Yes” Corey lifted his drink and took a sip and looked me up and down, as if sizing me up
“Hi Luna!” Another women said excitedly and reached over to shake my hand
She was an adorable tiny woman with big brown eyes and freckles.
“I’m Trish” She told me “Luna of Trinity and my mate, Alpha Archer”
“Archer?” I said as I looked at him and then back at Koda “The same Alpha Archer who killed the Dragon King Nesrand?”
“The very same” Koda smirked “Do you want his autograph?”
“No” I blushed and looked at my hands
“Good” I heard Jax and looked up “The only men you’re allowed to fangirl over, are me and Koda”
He placed the drinks on the table and sat beside me.
“I wasn’t..” I blushed again “I..”
Everyone laughed again and I glared at Jax but Evet reached over and touched my arm.
“Just ignore them” She told me “They’re just jealous that they’ve never done anything fan worthy”
“Yet” Koda smirked “But we are going to war soon, so”
I looked up at him with fear in my eyes, the idea of him and Jax fighting was terrifying to me.
“So nothing” Jax quickly interjected and I noticed him stare pointedly at his brother and then me and Koda shut up.
“Right” Koda looked uncomfortable “Are you hungry? I’ll go order some food”
He rushed off and I turned back to Jax who just smiled and kissed me.
“Drink your lemonade” He ordered and turned to Cole “Has everyone been housed?”
“You doubt my ability to do my job?”
The men started talking, but I zoned them out, Id caught a strange scent in the air and I turned in my seat to investigate.
I couldn’t quite place it, but it smelled familiar to me, almost comforting but as I scanned the crowd, I couldn’t pinpoint where it was coming from.
“He’ll be back soon” Jax kissed my hand.
“Who?” I asked in confusion.
“Aren’t you looking for Koda?” He asked
“Oh..um..” I hesitated and then I saw him, the man that held the scent.
He was a tall blonde man with dark blue eyes and a shaved head.
“Who is that?” I asked and Jax turned to look at the man.
Jax looked over and then turned back to me with an angry expression.
“Why are you so interested in him?” He snapped at me, which took me by surprise.
“I..” I blushed and looked at the others at the table who were deliberately avoiding eye contact “It’s not like that”
“Then what is it like?” He asked as he took my chin and turned me to look at him “Are you attracted to him?”
“What?” I gaped at him “Of course not!”
