‘Are you okay?’ Jax reached over and touched my arm again.
“I’m fine” I assured him, what the hell was wrong with me? Why had his departure hurt so much? Was I upset that he had rushed away to see Blake?
“Okay” He smiled, and went back to eating.
“Jax” I stabbed my food with my fork “What were they like together? Cody and Blake? Was he happy with her?”
Jax paused for a moment, before his eyes shot to me “Don’t worry sh*t like that” He told me “She’s in the past, he’s yours, we both are, don’t worry about other women, they mean nothing to us”
I nodded, and looked down at my food, suddenly not hungry.
“The healer can see you in an hour” He changed the subject “I’ll drop you off, but I have the meeting, and then training with the troops, so you’ll have to go alone, unless you want me to come with you?”
“No, that’s okay” I told him, as I stabbed a piece of watermelon with my fork “But, I have my lesson this morning”
“I’ll let Evelyn know you’ll be late, don’t worry about it” He leaned back and sipped his coffee.
I smiled at him, in thanks, but my eyes slipped down his body. I hadn’t realized I’d frozen, but when Jax cleared his throat, I jumped and looked up, blushing.
“My eyes are up here, Luna” He joked and pointed to his face.
I giggled and ate my watermelon “I wasn’t looking”
“Really” He smirked “Just finish your breakfast”
Once we’d eaten our fill, we got up, and Julia came in to clean up, with Molly.
“Molly, you’ll be staying with Madelyn during her hospital visit” He told her “Grab your coat, and let’s go”
“Yes sir” She bowed her head
We walked out of the house, with Molly following behind us, and I shyly slipped my fingers through Jaxson’s. We’d been intimate several times now, but I still felt a rush of nerves whenever I wanted to touch one of the twins, but thankfully, they’d never denied my touch. Jax closed his fingers around mine, and started to rub his thumb over my skin, in small circles, as we climbed into the car.
Molly climbed into the front with the driver, and once Jax gave him a location, we took off. I reached over my mate, who looked at me in confusion, and pressed the button for the divider. Once it was up, I undid my seat belt, and climbed onto Jaxson’s lap.
Jax laughed softly, as he held my hips “Your heat’s, definitely coming” He smiled, as I leaned over, and pressed my lips to his.
I didn’t move, until the car pulled up at the hospital, and it was Jax who broke the connection “You have to go” He told me, as I pouted and ran my hands down the front of his suit.
“Can’t I stay with you?”
He smiled, and shook his head “Later, now go”
I pouted, kissed his lips again, and slipped off his lap and out of the car
“Stay with Molly and your guards” He called out from the car window “You’re healer, is Angela. She’s on level 3”
“Bye, love you”
“Love you too”
I waved as he drove away, before turning back to Molly, who smiled. She really was a happy, cheerful girl. After going through the hospital, and receiving strange looks from people, we finally made it to lever 3, and a nurse quickly ushered me into a very clean, white and blue room, with a comfortable looking bed, next to a desk and chairs.
“Please have a seat, Luna” The nurse directed “Dr Angela will be with you shortly”
“Thank you”
I sat down on the hospital bed, and nervously started to play with my fingers, as I looked around the room, while Molly stood quietly by the open door ,next to my guards.
I wished one of the twins could have come with me, but I knew they were busy. I felt very uncomfortable without them though. Maybe I was going into an early heat? Or maybe my molt was going to happen? My temperature was higher than normal.
I didn’t have to wait long, because a very pretty woman came in. She was wearing a silk and woolen white dress, with her soft black hair, pulled half up, half down, behind her back.
“Good day, Luna” Her voice was pleasant and gentle, and I felt very at ease around her, which confused me.
“Are you using powers on me?” I asked, before I could stop myself, and I noticed one of my guards tense
“Oh, I’m so sorry, Luna” Angela said quickly “It’s one of my healing abilities, I put others at ease, it’s not intentional, I can’t shut it off, but I’ll try too lesson the effects”
“No, it’s okay” I smiled at her “Can you shut the door please, Molly”
“Yes, Luna” She quickly shut the door, leaving the three of us alone’.
“Right, well, Alpha Jaxson, mentioned that you might be going into your heat a little earlier than expected” Angela told me as she sat down in one of the chairs “He mentioned that you are a white Lycan, I’ve researched whites during my medical schooling, but I’ve never heard of one going into heat so early, so, it can’t be the reason, but let’s do some tests, just to see what’s going on, okay?”
“Okay”
An hour and 4 different tests later, Angela told me, that my heat was absolutely on its way, though she couldn’t understand why, or how, and I was afraid to mention I was potentially half Phoenix, as a means of explanation. I wasn’t even sure they had heat’s, so I just kept my mouth shut.
Angela, gave me a serum to take to prevent pregnancy, and gave me some information about what to expect. I got concerned when she mentioned I’d get aggressive towards my mates, but she assured me that as Alphas, they’d fare much better than most other mates.
I was glad to leave the hospital, and get to my lesson to distract myself, but when we reached the tower, I ran into Kaiya.
“Hello Queen mother” I bowed “Are you well?”
“I am, thank you” She smiled, as she approached “You appear happy to see me”
“Shouldn’t I be?” I asked in confusion.
“I see Jaxson hasn’t…” She began to say, but then changed mid-sentence “Never mind, come for a stroll with me”
“Oh, I have my lesson”
“I don’t like repeating myself Madelyn, come”
I looked up nervously at the tower, before rushing after the Queen mother, who’d started walking. I quickly went to her side. She didn’t seem to be going anywhere in particular, just around the garden by the tower.
“Have you given much thought to your Keeper?”
“Oh, um.. not really”
“Good” She nodded in approval “You shouldn’t trust this person, he left you to be tortured all of your life, he can’t be trusted. You should set your faith in your new family. Family loyalty is very important to us, being raised as an orphan, I’m sure this concept is foreign to you, but you must set aside your individual desires, and do what is best for the family, is that clear”
“Um.. I guess”
“No, you don’t guess” She snapped, and grabbed my arm “You will put the family first, above all else, is that understood”
“Are you worried that I’d willingly help Fenrir or Troy, because I’d never do that”
