“I would hope not” She released my arm, and I rubbed it to ease the pain, she’d held me tightly “But that is not what I’m referring to, being a part of the royal family comes with responsibilities, rules and obligations. If this Keeper shows up, you must not engage with him, you must put the family first, no matter what you feel towards him. If you don’t, I promise, there will be consequences and not just for you, there will be consequences for the twins for not keeping you in line, and they will be harsh, am I clear”
I frowned at her “I understand, I won’t put the Keeper above the twins”
“I never said the twins” She snapped “I said the family, you are not just a mate, you are a future Queen, you will think of what’s best for the family, not just your relationship with the twins”
I was so confused by this conversation. What had I done to make her think I wasn’t going to be loyal to the twins or the family? Was this all because my father had reached out to me, was she worried I’d choose to go live with him and my grandmother, and leave the twins?
“Did you put the family above your mates?”
“Mates?”
“Didn’t you have two mates too, your majesty?”
“No, or at least, not as far as I know” She answered “My husband killed his brother upon his twenty-first year, as did his father before him. The twin’s great-grandfather declared that this was how things would be from now on, he said, it was so only the strongest twin would take the throne. The only reason Fenrir and Theo didn’t fight, was because Fenrir didn’t have a Lycan”
“And the twins?” I asked in horror “Why didn’t they fight?”
“They did” She surprised me “Jax won, but he refused to kill Koda. His grandfather was not pleased, and punished him greatly for it”
“I see” I frowned, down at the ground, I couldn’t even imagine that “Well I’m glad Jax refused”
“He shouldn’t have” Kaiya growled “As I’ve told you before, Koda is too soft hearted for an Alpha, Jax should have done his duty, but you, you will perform your duty to the family. You will inform either myself or Theo first, if you meet your keeper, and not the twins”
“You expect me to tell the King, before my mates”
“Yes, I do, and if you don’t, as I said, there will be consequences” She warned me, as she looked into my eyes “Now, I must go, I have business to attend to. We will speak again, Madelyn. Once you’ve had a chance to think through my words, good day”
“Goodbye your majesty” I bowed, as she turned and walked away, with her guards and maid.
I frowned, and quickly left for the tower. If she thought I’d tell King Theo something before my mate, she was crazy, but, I didn’t want to get the twins punished again, because of my actions, I was so conflicted.
I remained in silent thought, all the way to my office, only breaking out of my stupor when I walked in, to find Evelyn.
“Hello Luna” Evelyn greeted me with a large smile “Someone sent you flowers”
“Really?” I looked over at the desk. No one had ever sent me flowers before “The twins never told me they were sending me something”
I eagerly rushed over to them, and pulled off the small envelope, and pulled out the card, but I froze upon reading it
“Madelyn” It read “My name is Tyrone, I am your cousin, I understand there has been an impersonator, pretending to be me, and I am sorry for the confusion. Please accept these flowers as a token of affection and intent to grow our family ties, I would love to speak with you, at your earliest convenience, Tyrone”
“Who are those from?!”
I spun when I heard Jaxsons voice, from the doorway, and found him looking furious.
JAXSON’S POV
I was heading to my office, to collect my training schedule, after our long meeting, when I smelt Madelyn’s scent, and to my horror, it was surrounded by my grandmother’s.
I was already on edge after seeing my father, who acted as if nothing had happened between us, so smelling my grandmother’s scent didn’t sit well with me.
I rushed into her office, to speak to her about staying away from my grandmother, but I forgot all about that, when I noticed a large bouquet of flowers sitting on her desk, and Madelyn was reading a card.
“Who are those from?!” I snapped angrily. I hadn’t sent them, and Koda would have mentioned it to me if he’d intended on giving her flowers.
Madelyn turned to me, and looked confused.
“Show me that card!” I marched up to her, but she just smirked and held it behind her back.
“No way” She told me, and I glared at her, how dare she deny me “I’ve never been sent flowers, I love having an admirer. I think I might ditch you and Cody, and run off with him”
I knew she was only kidding, but I was an Alpha, and we didn’t tolerate these kinds of jokes from our mates.
“Not amusing, show me the card, NOW!”
She giggled again, but rolled her eyes, this time, and past the note over “It’s from my cousin, you big baby”
I growled softly, as I looked at the note “Not amusing, don’t, joke like that again”
“You should’ve seen your face” She smirked, and looked back at the flowers “They’re pretty, aren’t they”
I glared at them “You want flowers? I’ll get you flowers”
I threw the note, marched out of her office, and went straight to mine, where I grabbed several of my seeds I kept on my shelf, and returned to Madelyn’s office.
“What are you doing?” She asked, as I went over to one of her potted plants, and pulled it out. I never liked that plant, anyway, I put it in the bin, planted the new seeds, and made them grow.
Several huge bushes of gorgeous purple clematis flowers sprouted up, doubling the size of the bouquet. I then grabbed the bouquet her cousin had given her, and walked it out of her office. I left it on one of the cabinets along the wall, by her office door. Her guards looked at me in confusion, but I ignored them, and went back to my girl.
“Evelyn, give us a moment”
“Yes sir” She smirked to herself, and left, shutting the door behind her.
“Are you quite done?” Madelyn smiled at me.
“I don’t like other men giving you gifts” I told her “In the future, you will tell me or Cody, if something like this gets scent to you again”
“He’s my cousin”
“I don’t care” I grabbed her roughly by the waist, and pulled her in, before smashing my lips against hers
Her kiss was like a drug, calming me down, and slowing my racing heart. When I started getting carried away, I pulled back, and was very smug, when I noticed how breathless and excited she appeared.
“Now that you’ve calmed down” She smiled and touched my chest “Can we talk about my cousin? I’d like to meet him, if he is the real him”
“We can all have dinner together in a few days, once your heat’s passed, okay”
“Okay” She nodded, in agreement “And, thank you for my flowers”
“You’re welcome” I smiled “How did it go with the healer?”
“She said, my heats on it’s way, any day now” She answered “She gave me something to prevent pregnancy. I have to take it before we make love”
“Alright, good, I’d better go, I have fight training” I kissed her again, and headed for the door “But, I’ll pick you up later”‘
“Jax wait”
I turned back, and she ran into my arms, and hugged me tightly “What’s wrong?”
