“I’ll add that to the list” I said, and sat down in the chair beside Jaxson and took his hand, before pressing my face into the mattress and closing my eyes.
“You’re exhausted” Evet pointed out “You should sleep, I’ll wake you when Maddie’s out of surgery”
“No” I shook my head “I can’t sleep, no matter how tired I am”
“Have you eaten?”
“No”
“I’ll go get you something”
“No, I can’t stomach anything right now”
“Which is why you should eat” She argued gently “I’ll go get you something”
I didn’t argue further, I just nodded against the mattress. Besides, she’d be out of the room, and I could have some time alone.
A few minutes after she left, Jax started moving and groaning, so I sat up, and waited for him to finally wake up.
Jaxson’s eyes opened, and for a few moments, he looked confused, but then realization dawned on him, and he frantically started looking around.
“What happened?” He tried to get out of bed, so I quickly pushed him down “Where’s Madelyn? How am I alive?”
“Stop” I ordered, when he tried to shove me away “I’ll show you, just rest, please”
“WHERE IS SHE?!’
“She’s in surgery” I answered “She’s alive, now please, stop trying to get up”
“Show me what happened after I passed out”
“PASSED OUT?!” I shouted in rage “YOU DIED, HOW DARE YOU MAKE THAT CHOICE FOR US!”
I couldn’t help the tears prick my eyes, I’d held everything in for so long, and I couldn’t do it any longer, I needed the release.
“I couldn’t watch you die” He told me, his voice low “I promised myself, the day of our twin fight, that I’d never see you dying again”
“It wasn’t your choice to make!”
“I know” He admitted “But I don’t reject it, now please, show me!”
I took his hand, and transferred my memories into his mind, and I watched as his eyes widened in disbelief.
“This is crazy” Jax let go of my hand, and slumped back onto the pillow
“We need more information on Phoenix’s” I told him “There’s so much we don’t know”
“So much we need to know” He added, and rubbed his face “I feel nearly as good as new, those Phoenix tears, really are miracle workers.
I growled angrily, I hated that he was talking like this was no big deal, and the tears finally escaped my eyes, and I went to move away from my brother, but he grabbed my arm, and pulled me into a hug.
“I’m right here” He assured me “Madelyn’s okay, everything’s going to be okay”
“If you ever do this to me again, I’ll kill you myself”
“I’ll already be dead, so”
“SHUT UP!” I shouted, and he just held me tighter.
“I’m sorry Cody” He sounded sincere for the first time “I was selfish, I know that, but I just… I couldn’t watch you die”
There was a knock on the door, and I quickly wiped my face, just in time for the door to open.
“Sorry to interrupt, your majesty” Frankie, one of the nurses came in “But the Luna is out of surgery, we’re bringing her in now”
“Good, thank you” Jax told her.
“I’ll let the doctor know you’re awake, Alpha Jaxson” She said, before bowing and leaving the room.
I started pacing again, until finally they pulled Maddie into the room, and I started breathing normally once more, her scent was the most exquisite scent in my world.
I ordered them to push Maddie’s bed up next to Jaxson’s and climbed into her bed, so I could hold her.
“What are her injuries?” Jax asked the healer, who gave us a run-down.
I couldn’t stand hearing about every wound, especially when he told us about her back. I felt like I was going to throw up.
After a few minutes, I just needed peace, and sent the doctor out, and we all remained silent, until Evet came back in with food.
MADELYN’S POV
“Mommy wake up!”
I felt something jumping on the bed, and I growled grumpily as I opened my eyes to find a small boy with dark black hair jumping beside me on his knees.
“YAY!” He shouted “MOMMY’S AWAKE!”
I looked around in confusion, I was lying in a huge comfortable bed with thick white blankets and comfortable looking pillows. The room was massive and unfamiliar.
The roof was painted to resemble a gorgeous galaxy, the colors blending to mix with stone walls and flooring, and paintings spread over the walls.
There was a large double door leading out to a balcony filled with plants and flowers, and several other doors leading to unknown rooms.
I slowly sat up, my long hair falling over my shoulder, but I brushed it back, and noticed that I was about five or six months pregnant.
What?
I touched my stomach in shock, and the little boy giggled excitedly “Is my baby sister moving, mommy?” He reached over and touched my stomach, and I jumped a little in surprise, when I felt an odd connection to the boy.
Was he my son? Where was I? What was happening? The last thing I remember was being in the woods with my mates, and Jaxson had… Jax had died.
“Wheres your daddy?” I asked.
“Daddys training outside, mommy”
“Let’s go see him” I climbed out of the bed, my feet hitting the fluffy white rub under the bed. I reached over and grabbed the nightgown, sitting on chair, and looked into the full-length mirror.
I was me, but pregnant. I thought I’d somehow been transported into someone else’s body, but my own face was staring back at me.
