“We went to pick up two children from school and drop them off at the diner for their aunt and uncle. Then looked around for a spot for a free daycare LeeAca wants to build.” I say, giving him the short version.
“Wait. wait wait. Children? Daycare? What are you talking about.” He asks, confused. I go into the details and tell him about the children and the daycare. When I am done he has a look of admiration in his eyes.
“Well isn’t she the perfect Luna.” He says proudly. I don’t know why, but him saying that irritates me. He doesn’t notice but continues speaking.
“So you two practically spent the whole day together and it was nice? You had a good time, I can tell. You aren’t as grumpy as you normally are.” He says pointing my way.
“I’m not normally grumpy.” I state and he laughs.
“Dude, you are always irritated and have a scowl on your face. I would say that is more than grumpy.” He says. “Either way I am glad to see you took my advice and gave her a chance. Now you know that you can at least be friends for the rest of your life.” He says getting up to leave. His “at least” comment didn’t sit well with me, but I didn’t want to get into the conversation of becoming more than friends with LeeAca. She and I can be friends and have a good time. But there will never be anything more. I can feel Onin’s irritation at my thought, but he doesn’t say anything. I go back to work on all of the pack financials to see that they’re up to date.
LeeAca’s POV
I walk into the room and put the bags on the small bar counter that is to the right.Fen is still seething in my head about giving the desserts to Markus and Alarick. I choose to ignore her. I look around and see that Maleena isn’t here.
“Maleena, where are you?” I ask through midlink.
“Oh I am in Alena’s room. Apparently I don’t have the best etiquette, so she is coaching me. “She says slightly annoyed. I laugh.
“Okay, well good luck with that.” I say to her and close the link. I go through the little bar and find myself the only utensil there is a plastic spoon. With that I sit on the little barstool and start to eat the desserts. After the 5 desserts I feel like I am going into a food coma. They are all amazing. Fen calmed down once we finished the first dessert, but now that I am cleaning up she starts to get pissy.
“What is wrong now Fen?” I ask sleepily.
“What is wrong? What is wrong? I’ll tell you what is wrong! I can feel the change you have had when thinking about that stink bug!” She says shocking me.
“What change Fen?” I ask her. Where the heck is this coming form?
“You are tolerating him now! I felt the way you were looking at him when he was pushing Christopher on the swings. You were longing. Longing! For what kids with him?!” She yells at me. She could have said anything else but that. I am pissed now.
“Longing! For HIM?! Please Fen! If you would have paid any attention I was looking at Christopher.” I yell at her. “His laugh and the smile he had when playing. I wasn’t longing for Alarick, Fen. I was longing for the children.” I say calmer now and a lot more soft. She’s quiet for a minute.
“I apologize for that.” She says finally. “But there has been a shift in your feelings for Alarick today. I don’t like it.” She says.
“What are you talking about?” I ask her again.
“You were joking with him and by the end of the day you were nice to him. His scent didn’t bother you and you gave him a dessert.” She says.
“You have got to be kidding me! This is all about those stupid desserts!” I yell, walking over to the bedroom.
“No! The dessert is just the cherry on top of the cake. Did you not hear anything else I said?” She asks and I think about it for a few seconds. I guess she is right. I saw another side of Alarick today that I liked and responded to. Shit.
“Exactly LeeAca. You need to be guarded as much as I do. This is a partnership, we have both been through the same things. The same hurt. You need to protect me as I am protecting you. We can’t go through it again.” She says, making me feel a little guilty. I mean technically, as of now, we are supposed to spend the rest of our lives with Alarick. The least we could do is get used to being civil and nice to each other.
“I am sorry. I will try better.” I say trying to hide the disappointment in my voice. I just lay down on the bed and don’t say anything else. After those desserts, I really need a nap.
Alarick’s POV
It is 6:00 and dinner time. I walk in to see everybody there except my Gamma Garrett and LeeAca.
“Where is she?” Onin asks, peeking through my eyes. I sit down and wait a few minutes. She doesn’t come, but the food does. As we start the meal I look over to Maleena.
“Where is LeeAca?” I ask, trying to hide the disappointment in my voice.
“Oh, well I went to get her from the room and she was sleeping. Well, is sleeping.” She says.
“She needs to eat. Did you not wake her?” I ask and she chuckles.
“If you knew my sister, you would know not to wake her for any reason. Even food. She will bite your head off.” She says, taking a bite of her food. I just nod and start to eat dinner. After about 20 minutes Markus turns to Maleena.
“How was your first day of school Little Sun?” He asks. Maleena’s head snaps up so quick I swear her neck would have broken if she wasn’t a werewolf. Her eyes changed black then went back to her normal blue. She clears her throat and takes a deep breath.
“Please refrain from calling me that, Beta Markus. There is only one person who calls me that.” She says. I look at Markus and he is blushing. I can tell he feels awkward now.
