“You’re lucky it is my day off and I decided to not make plans.” He jokes back. I just chuckle and shake my head.
“Fen, are you 100% positive about this?” I ask her.
“Yes. I know you are worried, but we have taught him everything he needs to know. Spending 5 hours a day training him for two months. He is ready.” She reassures me. I take a deep breath and get ready for the night. At 10:15 I head to the training grounds and start to pace, while waiting for Lucas. He enters the area and immediately comes up to me with a worried look. He can feel my nervousness.
“What is it?” He asks right away.
“Fen and I have a test for you.” I say schooling my emotions. He becomes confused.
:I thought that keeping up with you in sparring was the test.” He jokes.
“It is part of it. Let’s go for a walk.” I say as I turn and start to walk.
“You aren’t going to try and kill me again are you?” He asks jokingly. That is one thing I have come to learn about Lucas is that he is a jokester. He is serious when he needs to be, but other than that he is a big clown. He still doesn’t know anything but basics about me, and even then it is only the information that goes around the castle, nothing about the shadow. I would still trust him with my life if it came down to it. And I know he trusts me with his. After we walk for 45 minutes I stop. He stops as well and looks at me still confused.
“About a mile out is a rogue camp. It is what is left of the rogues that attacked the pack three years ago.” I say and I feel his anger start to flare.
“Why did you bring me here LeeAca? That isn’t possible; they are all dead.” He asks partially angry.
“The higher ups told everybody that to calm everyone. The truth is that 20 of them are still alive and they fled. They have been living here trying to come up with a plan to attack again. They don’t have the numbers they did last time because I have been picking off rogues like grapes.” I say to him and he gets even more angry.
“Are they the ones who killed my family?” He asks. I can see his wolf is about to come out, so I reach out to him and send calming energy.
“I do not know for certain if they killed your family, but killing them will avenge not only their deaths, but some of the others too. It will also ensure that they never rise up and take over the kingdom.” I say taking a step back. He looks at me questioningly.
“You want me to kill them?” He asks as his anger calms a bit and worry starts to take its place.
“You can and will. Fen and I believe that you are ready. This is your mission, take a minute to plan and tell me what you want us to do. If there is a bad idea we will work with you to correct it.” I say reassuring him. He starts to walk forward, after we almost get there he climbs a tree and watches the camp. It isn’t the smallest of camps, but it isn’t huge either. They have a tent for each person and at the moment there are 10 of them around the campfire drinking. The other 10 are probably sleeping. They have become complacent over the years. They take in prisoners and kill most of them after they had their fun. They think that since nobody has ever found them that they are safe. They aren’t. I stumbled upon them when I first moved to the castle. I watched one night as they all drunkenly sat around a campfire talking about the “good old days” of raiding the castle. I decided that after I started training Lucas that this would be his kill, his mission.
Lucas comes down the tree and looks at me. I open our mindlink so that he can talk to me without being noisy.
“There are 10 at the fire, all almost drunk. Five are walking around the perimeter not doing a very good job at watching and there are five more in another group with two girls. They aren’t being gentle with them.” He says and I feel his anger.
“Keep the anger under control and tell me what the plan is.” I said to him,
“I am going to take care of the ones on patrol first. I would like you to take out the two to the right and I will take out the other three. Once they are not a problem we will head in and take care of the ones with the girls. We don’t want them accidentally hurt because we focused on the wrong people first. Then we will work together to kill the rest. But not before interrogating them on any information they might have.” He says. I smiled at him.
“Good plan. Are you ready?” I ask him and he nods. We head over to the patrol. Before we get there I hand him some daggers. They will disappear in 5 minutes, but this won’t take that long. We kill the men and head in to the camp. All of the men have moved now and are around the women. There are 4 women now and the men have started to force themselves on the women. Lucas and I growl and get the men’s attention. The 5 that were watching the girls with the others start to run after us. I mindlink the girls to run when they get a chance.
“Do you think you can get these 5 while I go to the others?” Lucas asks me.
“On it. Go.” I say and I make a chain appear and greet the five. We start to fight and I look over to see that one of the girls was laying on the ground. Lucas is fighting and doing pretty well. After I kill the last of my rogues I go to help Lucas. He is pretty badly beaten up, but I see he only has 7 rogues left. I start throwing daggers and hit 3 of them in the head dropping them instantly. I make another chain appear and toss it to Lucas while I have another one. We begin to subdue the other rogues. After questioning the rogues they tell us that their leader died in the attack three years ago and they have been trying to figure it out since. Lucas decides to kill them. After this we go to find the girls. One died, which Lucas is trying to deal with, but that means that the others are somewhere. We sniff them out and when we are close we hear a child whimpering. We spot them behind some bushes. There are three women and 4 children, all infants and toddlers. One of the women seems to have passed out. They are all terrified when they see us.
“Don’t be scared, we will show you where to go for safety.” I mindlink them and their eyes go wide.
Lucas and I help them up and I pick up the one that is passed out. They all stay near me and try to avoid Lucas. I can understand why. Men just did something terrible to them.
Once we walk for about 15 minutes the children start to get grumpy. I take one of them and put them on my shoulders. The other one who isn’t scared of Lucas asks him to ride on his shoulders too. Lucas obliges and puts the boy on his shoulders wincing a little in the process.
“Where are we going?” Lucas’s voice sounds in my head.
“A safe rogue camp.” I answer back and I see the skepticism in his eyes, but he doesn’t say anything. After another 45 minutes we reached the camp. We walk up with the girls hiding behind us. There are two guards at the door and they nod to me as we walk in. I am the one who set this all up. After reaching the small building for women and children I drop them off to get changed.
“I will be back to check on you.” I tell the women and they nod. Lucas and I walk out the door and start to walk down to the Alpha’s house.
“What is this place?” Lucas asks looking all around amazed.
“The Rogue Pack.” I answer him and he stops before continuing to follow me.
“Pack?” He asks and I nod.
“I found a Rogue Beta one night. He was banned from his pack because the Alpha felt threatened by him. He is the Alpha here. Alpha Jorian. There are over 300 people who live here and they have everything they need.” I answer him and he nods his head taking it all in.
