“I understand that, but the challenge is tomorrow and you need to train.” He says and I get even more irritated.
“And I understand that the challenge is tomorrow, but I will be spending the day with Maleena. I have planned the day and I will not be going to training.” I say, leaving no room for argument. He stares at me for a moment then huffs. I see him reach out in his pocket and pull out his wallet. He pulls out a card and hands it to me. I take it and look at it. It’s his credit card. I look up at him questioningly.
“Alena mentioned something about you taking her shopping. Use this and get whatever she wants.” He says and I just look at the card and back at him.
“You don’t have to do this. I don’t need money to take her shopping, I have my own.” I say. Even though I don’t have much, I have enough so she can get a few items.
“I’m not saying that you don’t have money. I didn’t think about getting her anything. Just look at it as my gift to her. She can get whatever she wants.” He says and I feel a slight guilt coming from him. This is his way of apologizing for the challenge tomorrow. He feels bad for even giving her a chance to lose her sister. I nod then go to shut the door. I look back and see that there is still a lot of food on the counter from breakfast. I quickly open the door back up and see that he was just turning away.
“I made breakfast. We are done eating, but there is a lot left. I was going to tell Alena and Amara they could come eat some, but if you would like some you are more than welcome to come in.” I say and I see a slight smile on his face.
“I was wondering what that smell was.” He says as he walks through the door and sees all of the food still laying out.
“Holy cow. You weren’t kidding. You have a lot left.” He says as Redna grabs a clean plate and asks him what he wants. He just shakes his head and takes the plate from her. A minute later I see Markus and Garret at the door and they come rushing in. Eyes wide, when they see the food. I give them questioning looks and Alarick speaks up.
“When I saw the food I mindlinked them. Figured you would want it wall gone. You know? Not have to worry about leftovers.” They quickly grab some food then sit on the barstools. I shake my head and smile.
“Redna. Remember I have that long list of stuff for you to do by tomorrow. Maleena and I will be back later.” I say and wink at her. She gets the message because she mouths a thank you as I grab my purse and Maleena grabs hers. We head out the door. Once we get to the door I see the town car waiting for us. We get in and I make sure to tell him we are going to the mall on the outskirts of the territory. It is about a 20 minute drive. The man nods his head then puts the divider up and takes off. Maleena looks at me with a small smile.
“You know. For being an empath you are completely oblivious for how Alarick feels for you.” Maleena says which surprises me. Fen growls in my head at her statement. I don’t say anything, hoping that she would drop the conversation, but she doesn’t.
“He cares about you LeeAca. Why can’t you see that?” She asks me and I huff.
“He doesn’t care for me. He cares for the deal we have, that is it. If tomorrow goes wrong, then he will have to try and convince another woman to go along with his deal. No she wolf in her right mind would go along with what he wants.” I say and she rolls her eyes at me.
“You did.” She says trying to stump me. I just laughed at her response.
“Do you really think that I am in the right mind Maleena? I am f*cked up, that’s why I agreed to it.” I say, still chuckling at the thought of her thinking I am in the right frame of mind. I feel her anger start to boil and I quickly reach in my purse for the gift I have for her. I hand it to her and I feel her anger settle as curiosity bubbles.
“What is this?” She asks, looking from the small box to me.
“Open it and find out.” I say smiling at her. She unwraps the box carefully and opens it. I hear a slight gasp and I see tears swell up in her eyes.
“Mom’s necklace?” She asks as a tear escapes her eye. I wipe it off and nod my head.
“But she gave it to you.” She says looking up at me.
“And I am giving it to you. I am proud of you, Little Sun and I want you to have it. Plus I have the matching ring to it.” I say holding up my hand to show her. It is a plain gold band with small diamonds creating a gardenia. The necklace is the same. The necklace has been passed down from generation to generation. The ring that I have, dad gave to mom on their ceremony night. She lays it down on her lap and hugs me.
“Thank you.” She whispers. I take the necklace out of the box and have her turn around so I can put it on her. She plays with it the rest of the ride to the mall. Once we get to the mall we get our nails done and go shopping. Store after store she is getting something. Neither of us felt too bad for using Alarick’s card. Fen kept reminding me that he said anything she wanted. She loved that Maleena didn’t have to worry about the price. She still avoided the name brand things, but ended up getting a couple outfits, shoes and a new bag. Next we stopped at a dress shop and her eyes shone. We walk in and there are a couple people there, but not many.
“Alena wants me to get a dress for the party tonight. She said nothing too fancy, but not clubby. More of a classy dress.” She said as she went to the sale rack. I look around and see that it is a pretty expensive store. Some of the dresses were up to 10,000 dollars, that is not including the wedding gowns they have. I see her struggling with her bags and trying to pull dresses off the rack, so I go over and grab the bags. She pulls out about 10 dresses and we go to the fitting room. We spent a good hour there trying to find the right dress for her. Finally she comes out with a short, flowy and shiny green dress that looks perfect on her.
“That is perfect Maleena.” I say with a smile. She walks over to the mirrors and her smile widens.
“Yes it is.” She says then goes back to change. When she comes out she hands one of the women there the dress and asks her to hang on to it. I look at her questioningly, but doesn’t say anything. I see her go over to a rack and pull a dress down. She comes back smiling at me. “Oh no.” I hear Fen say and I think the same thing. The smile that I had from earlier falls when Maleena comes up to me.
“This would be perfect for you.” She says as she takes the bags from me and shoves the dress in my hands.
“I don’t need this.” I say trying to take it back to the rack she pulled it off of, but she steps in my way.
“Then what are you going to wear for tonight? Surely not what you are wearing now.” She says and I look down. I am wearing black jeans and a red button up blouse. I mean yes I was going to wear this, but she doesn’t need to know that.
“Pshshh. No, I wasn’t going to wear this.” I say and she cocks an eyebrow at me then points to the dressing room. I huff and I head over to the room to change. She is lucky it is her birthday.
I change into the dress and smile slightly. My sister knows me too well. The dress is a black floor length, long sleeve dress. It has a slight drape in the front and back, but it doesn’t show anything. It hugs my body, making it look like I have bigger breasts and shows off my butt. But right after the hug around my butt area it flows down, making it look like my butt is just too big for the flowy material. I walk out to show her and she starts vibrating in her seat and clapping with a big smile on her face.
“Oh you are getting that for tonight! It is perfect!” She squeals and I smile at her. I look in the mirror one last time and go to change back into my clothes. I grab the dress and walk out. I completely forgot to look at the price tag, so when I got back to her I decided to look. I swear my eyes bug out of my head. 499.99 I can’t afford that. Hell no. Not for a dress I am online going to wear for a couple hours. Maleena rips it out of my hands before I could even protest it.
“He said anything I wanted right? Well, I want this.” She says taking the dress up to the counter before I could say anything. I’ll just pay him back for it and for some of the things she bought. We pay for the dresses and head for lunch. After lunch we leave to go back to the castle. When we get back it is around 3:00 and Alena comes running towards us, looking frantic.
“Maleena! Where have you been! You took longer than I wanted! We have to go get you ready right now! We only have 2 hours!” She says as she grabs Maleena and tugs her away from me. I laugh and start to grab the bags. I didn’t realize how much she got, till my arms were full and there were still bags in the trunk.
