“You know at first I didn’t think that you would be a good queen, but after time we have grown closer and I have gotten to know you. Well I guess I changed my mind. You would be a great queen and this dress is to symbolize that the union between you and Alarick should happen with or without the mate bond. There shouldn’t be a challenge. It is my way of speaking out, I guess. Mixing your pack colors with ours.” She says a little nervously. I smile.
“I appreciate that, Alena. I am glad that you are trying to speak out for what you believe. It is a good quality to have.” I say and she smiles even more. I hear the front door open and we walk out of the bedroom. I see Amara and Maleena walking in.
“Is everybody ready? I have it so that you, LeeAca, escort Maleena downstairs. And we are already running late.” Amara says then turns to head out the door. I laugh then turn to Maleena. She looks perfect. Her green dress with small black heels. Her makeup is light, still making her look innocent.
“Are you ready, Little Sun?” I ask and she smiles slightly and nods her head. I can feel her nerves heighten when we walk out of the door. I send her some calm energy and she smiles at me.
“Thank you.” She says quietly and I nod my head. We get to the top of the stairs and wait for Alena to give us the signal to walk down. When she does, we start our descent. When we walk down the room goes quiet. I hear Maleena take a deep breath and release. I can feel her relax which makes me wonder. She doesn’t smell her mate or she would be going straight to them. The only thing I can think of, is that she is nervous to find her mate.
After finding our father and brother I go to find Laura. I know that most packs are here already for tomorrow so this is a birthday party and a welcome party. After I find Laura and chat for a few minutes Amara comes up. I introduced the two and they hit it off right away. After about 30 minutes of talking I feel his presence behind me, making my stomach twist in knots. I turn around and see him standing right behind me. He is wearing black slacks and a white button up shirt. His muscles are bulging out and I can’t help the slight quiver it sends to my core.
“You look beautiful.” He says to me and I smile at him.
“You don’t look half bad yourself.” I say with a smirk back. I see slight lust in his eyes and Fen starts to panic. “Get the hell away from him! Don’t you smell the stench that he is emitting. It is going to make me gag. Please don’t make me cause a scene by making you throw up over him.” She says and my eyes widen a bit. I look off to the side and see red hair entering through the door. I smile when I smell the familiar smell.
“If you’ll excuse me.” I say to Alarick. I walk over to the red head and he smiles at me.
“Lucas! I am so glad you came.” I say and hug him. I can feel Alarick watching my interaction with Lucas and can feel his anger.
“You said there would be free food?” He asks, looking around and sniffing.
“Come on there is food near the ballroom.” I say walking him over towards the tables with food on it. I stop when I realize he isn’t following me anymore. I turn back to see him standing there staring. When I look to see what is going on I see Maleena stand stiff staring back at him. I start to walk up to him when I see Maleena start to walk towards him as well. I see a look that I can’t decipher so I try to focus on her emotions. Sadness, guilt, and loss. I feel her wolf’s anger. “Oh hell no.” Fen says and we start to speed over to them.
When we walk in I see Maleena pacing back and forth in the living area. I slam the door and they both flinch.
“WHAT IN THE F*CK DO YOU THINK YOU WERE DOING DOWN THERE MALEENA?!” I yell and she flinches.
“I was rejecting him. If you would please leave so I can finish.” She says pointing towards the door. Oh the nerve of this girl. Fen claws to come out and smack her silly. My aura comes out full force making both of them stumble back. No one has really felt the full force of my aura. It is dark and sadistic. From all of the experimenting my aura releases the feeling of death. People don’t feel the need to submit when they feel it, they feel the fear of the darkness that consumes them when it hits them. I have only ever let it go once and from that day I have tried so hard to never use it, but this. This is it, I can’t believe that she is trying to reject Lucas!
“Don’t you ever use that tone on me again. Do you understand?” Fen asks her in a deadly tone. I see her body shaking from our aura, but she nods anyway. I reel in my aura and see her body start to relax.
“Why Maleena?” I ask her with my voice back to normal. She looks down and sighs.
“I see what mates do to you. I don’t want one.” She says and I sigh.
“I have told you this before. You should never look at me for an example of anything. I am not a good person for an example of who to look up to, Maleena.” I say and she starts to shake her head.
“Mates hurt you. And if you happen to get a good one they will make you weak. You will either be hurt or made weak. Isn’t that what you always say?” She asks and I sigh again.
“Maleena.” I say as I walk towards her and lead her to sit on the couch. I see Lucas taking a seat on the chair with tears in his eyes. I grab her hand and she looks up at me. “Mates are a gift from the goddess. She gives you the one who will forever be yours. Will he hurt you? Most likely, but not in the ways that my mates have hurt me. I am an anomaly. And if you think about it.. You are hurting Lucas the way my mates have hurt me. You are rejecting him without giving him a chance. I can tell you that this young man sitting here is the only one I would choose for you.” I say and glance over at Lucas. He is looking down and holding his head.
“You don’t even know him.” Maleena says, trying to defend herself.
“That is where you are wrong. I have been training him for months now. He is my apprentice.” I say and smile over to him. She gasps and looks at him then at me and I feel her anger start to rise.
“APPRENTICE?! Apprentice??!! I have asked you since I have gotten my wolf to train me. BUT NOOOOOO. Now you have a random guy who you got from a goddess who knows where to train. You train him, but not your own sister?!” She yells and I give her a stern look.
“Calm down Maleena. You are an excellent warrior and you will do great things. He is an empath and I am able to train him how to use his gift. And we both know I couldn’t train you because if you ask him, I have beat the shit out of him on more than one occasion. I couldn’t do that with you.” I say and she calms down, but then gets angry again.
“You have hurt him?!” I hear her wolf come out and I start to laugh at the protective mate.
“Yes I have. Now that we have you back on track, I think you two should talk. Get to know each other. You both are good wolves and I can see why the moon goddess chose you two for eachother. And Lucas.” I say and he looks up at me. “Don’t give her your full name until after you are marked and mated.” I say and his face flushes a deep red. I laugh and leave the room. I walk downstairs and see everybody staring at me. After a few moments they all go back to their conversations, except they are being quieter than before, trying to listen to see if I say anything. I see my father and brother walking to me and smile half hazzardly at them.
“Was she actually going to reject him?” Sebastion asks me and I nod my head. They both growl lowly.
“There has to be a reason why. What did he do to her?” Seb asks.
“There is no reason. She was basing the mate bond off of my experience with it. I set her straight and they are upstairs talking now. Hopfully they can come to an understanding of why they were chose for eachother. Lucas is good and if I were to have picked any wolf our for her he would have been the one.” I say reassuring them that Maleena is in good hands. They both look at me astonished.
“You have changed.” Seb says looking at me wide eyed.
“What are you talking about?” I ask.
