“I loofaer.” I say and then start to doze off.
I am running in the forest with my family when rogues come out of nowhere and attack us. My father and brother are able to fight off the rogues, but I was forced to run with Maleena back to the house. All of a sudden I feel a bond break. It is one of the worst feelings you could ever have. Every fiber in me screamed at the loss of the bond. When I got to the packhouse I dropped Maleena off and waited. I was ordered to get me and Maleena back to safety and stay there. A while later I see dad and Sebastion walking back. That only means one thing. My mother is the one who didn’t make it. I break down and start crying.
“NO! NO!!” I yell and start to run towards the forest to where we were when the attack came. My brother grabs me and I collapse in his arms screaming for my mom.
I awoke with tears streaming down my face. I look at the clock and see that it is 4:00. I don’t remember when I fell asleep, but it must have been late if I slept this long. I get up and take a shower, letting the warm water wake me up from my dream. When I get out I have this feeling of dread. This bad feeling that something is going to happen today. With that thought I grab a bag and start to pack it. I threw a few change of clothes in it, my notebooks, the essentials and a few other things. When I leave my room I see Maleena and Lucas already up making breakfast. They are up early.
“Or they didn’t sleep at all.” Fen says and I grimace at the thought. They both look up and smile. Maleena sets a plate in front of me and I see that she made me an omelet. One of the only things she can cook. I look towards Lucas who is sporting a small crescent moon mark and smile.
“Don’t let her fool you. This is one of the only things she can cook.” I say and he starts laughing.
“HEY!” Maleena yells and throws a piece of bell pepper at me.
“What is up with you and throwing food?” I say and throw it back at her. After the laughter dies and we are done eating breakfast I look at both of them.
“I don’t want to worry either of you, but I need you to make sure you pack a bag of essentials. I have a bad feeling about today and if something happens I need you both to be ready to run.” I say and they look at each other then at me. I see the worry on their faces.
“Where would we go?” Maleena asks me.
“Lucas knows where.” I say and look at him. He understands and nods back at me. They get up and go to the bedroom packing Maleena’s essentials, then leave to get a bag for Lucas. I leave and go to the room my family is staying in. When I arrive I see that Sebastion, Dad, Beta, Female Beta, Jonah and Laura are in the room talking. When I walk in they all ask how Maleena is doing. We start to talk about how life is and what we missed. After a couple hours of sitting there talking I hear a frantic knock at the door. I get up and open it to see Redna and Alena standing there out of breath.
“What is going on?” I ask them. Redna goes to answer, but then stops and stares behind me.
“Mate.” She says standing still. I give her a questioning look but then hear my brother barrel up from behind me and push me out of the way.
“Mate.” I hear his wolf say and he holds on to Redna.
I chuckle and then look down. Sometimes I wish that I could have had that. Alena interrupts my thoughts
“We need to get you down to the arena. All challengers need to be there an hour before it starts.” She says looking sad. I nod my head and say goodbye to my people and congrats to the new mated couple. Alena and I walk in silence to the arena. I can feel her nerves. When I look down I see that her top is purple and blue. The colors of my pack. I smile.
“I like your shirt.” I say and she looks at me and smiles.
“What can I say? I like to make a statement.” She said and shrugged her shoulders. We laugh and then get quiet again. As we enter the arena I can see that people are already arriving. I take a deep breath and follow Alena. She leads me to a locker room that is normally used for different teams. I see that there are different weapons set up and a list of the different gifts people may have. Basically it is to help me prepare, since they all know that I am an empath, it is only fair that I know what some of the gifts might be. There is no definite list of challengers, so there is no definite list of gifts. They can decide to challenge at the end or drop out if they don’t think they can do it. After about a half hour a man comes back to tell me the rules.
1. No silver
2. No wolfsbane
3. No overkill
4. No help
Seems easy enough. After that he let me be. I sat in there for another 20 minutes before I heard the announcements saying that we will be starting in 10 minutes. After that I saw Lucas come into the room. I look at him questioningly and he smiles.
“Gamma Garret requested that I be your guard.” He says and I smile.
“Thank you Lucas.” I says and he nods and he leads me out to the arena.
Alarick’s POV
I woke up to a smack on the face. I quickly get out of bed alert and see Markus and Garret there laughing. I look down to see that I am still in my clothes from yesterday. It takes a moment, but I remember what happened. I look at the clock to see that it is 8:45 and my eyes bug out. The challenge starts in a little over an hour.
“It’s 8:45! Why didn’t you guys wake me sooner?!” I yell at them and they roll their eyes.
“We have been trying to wake up for the past 30 minutes.” Markus says and I quickly go to the bathroom and take a shower and do my morning routine. When I come out they hand me my clothes. I need to wear royal attire being that it is a royal event. It is a white military grade outfit with gold embroidery. I’ve never been one to wear the crown, but I have to with royal functions. After my mind stops racing about how I look and the time it is, it starts racing about LeeAca and I start to get worried.
“She will be fine.” Garret says to me, trying to help. It didn’t. Garret seems to be the only one not worried. I only nod my head and look at the time. It is 9:30 now and we have to make our way to the arena. We all walk there and it takes us about 15 minutes. When we get there we are escorted to the platform in the middle of the side of the arena. It is supposed to be the best view. I take my seat and so does Markus and Garret. My leg keeps shaking and Onin is pacing back and forth in my head. Why can’t I seem to calm down? It isn’t like me at all.
“You said last night that you loofaer.” Markus says to me and I look at him. What does that even mean? “So, do you?” He asks and I look at him questioningly.
“I don’t even know what loofaer means Markus.” I said slightly annoyed and he chuckled.
