He was wearing a hospital mask. His color had returned and he was healing fast.
I walk up to him, taking his hand in mine.
“You’re going to be just fine I promise to listen to you if only I did you wouldn’t have been in this mess we’re in trouble Jaden and I mean we cause bad people to want us dead ” I say wiping my tears.
“But we’ll make it, I promise we will then we’ll go on a great dinner with an amazing dress and-
“Your time is up” The guard states.
I kiss his hand which I feel tighten a little bit on mine.
That small gesture gives me hope.
“Thank you” I say leaving.
“Looks like you are staying in with me” I say to Ride.
His eyes flash as he takes his lip ring between his teeth, a look I know too well.
“Don’t even think about it lest you want to join Tyler” I say sadly.
I can’t believe they were dead.
Heading to Jaden’s room we see a future standing outside the room.
“Hailey I’m glad you’re here I want to speak to you” I’m taken aback did I just hear well, what’s more, surprising is the to she used, I thought I’ll never see the day Riley turns nice.
“Ehmm… Sure Riley what is the problem?”
“Not here let’s go inside”
This might be another one of her tricks. I’ve seen a chameleon change colors, not a snake.
I still let her in any way, maybe it’s the events of today that got me on the edge, maybe it’s the way her eyeballs keep roaming or the way she fumbled with her dress nervously.
“Hailey someone wants you dead” age says sealing the door shut.
I almost laugh at the irony, a while ago Riley wanted me dead and here she is stating someone wants me dead.
“Who?” I question simply.
“I was asked to fake my pregnancy Hailey it’s all a ploy to get you dead but Nisha saved you”
“So Riley, why are you telling me this?” I can’t even pretend to be shocked.
Lord Perry wanted me dead; he had threatened my life and my friends.
He is the first on my list that is a member of the crown or maybe he is the crown.
“Because someone wants me dead too” she shakes, opening her hand and revealing a piece of paper, the same one with the number ‘5’.
Ride and I share a look as I take the paper from Riley.
“Who wants you dead Riley?”
“I don’t know Hailey, I was released earlier today heading to the room I spotted this ” she points to the paper.
“At the foot of the door it saved me from a bullet someone was in the other room” she says cringing clutching the neck of her gown.
“Why are you telling me this?”
“I have no one else to turn to Hailey, Lord Perry mandated my false pregnancy maybe he wants to get rid of me also”
“Looks like we’re not the only ones on their list ” I say, handing Ride the paper.
“Angel this says five”
“Yes I know” I reply, rubbing my throbbing head.
“That means there is a number four Angel” Ride points out.
My blood turns cold as I realize he is right.
There’s still someone out there they want, is it Elijah?
How the hell are they able to cover so much ground?
Why us?
Is this a warning or a threat?
Whatever the answer maybe I won’t find it lurking here.
“Ride you take care of her” I instruct, not trusting Riley one bit but the enemy of your enemy is your friend a temporary alliance goes a long way.
“Where are you heading to?” Ride asks.
“To have a small talk with Lord Perry ” are my last words as I walk through the door.
It wasn’t hard to find Lord Perry, he is in the study.
“I want to see Lord Perry” I say to the guard at the entry.
“You’ll have to wait to see if he wants to see you,” He says a bit rudely walking into the room.
A while later he steps in nodding. I should be permitted to get in.
He stands looking through the glass window view.
The room is packed with books and bookshelves.
“Well I never thought you had it in you” Lord Perry begins with a low growl.
“What do you mean?” I am mystified.
He turns slowly, his icy gaze boring into mine making me gulp but I don’t back down taking shallow breaths as I meet his gaze calmly.
“Hailey you’re fighting a battle you can’t win,” He says simply stepping forward.
“A battle I shouldn’t fight” I corrected.
“Who says it is not your battle” he asks, cocking a brow.
“Well everyone around is getting hurt looks like it’s not my battle”
“A battle nonetheless entails innocent people getting hurt”
“Even your son?”
“He has to learn the hard way to see the world will be a better place with you dead”
“So you admit it you want me dead”
“I’ve wanted you dead since I set my eyes on you but you’re a hard person to kill”
