“Let me go!” I yell struggling and shoving her which makes little to no impact on the huge lady.
She tosses me roughly pointing a finger at me, her huge black eyes and grand mole by the side of her face make me cringe.
“If the clothes in the laundry aren’t washed and dried only the moon goddess will pry me away from dealing with you” she warns walking to the east.
My surroundings are alien and I have no idea where the laundry is and don’t want to stick around long enough to find out.
My memories are in a daze with the assistance of Helena. I recall my fight with Madam Von and the doctor.
I must have been drugged.
“Jaden…” I try initiating a mind link trying to communicate with him or get a trace of his thoughts or scent but it’s futile no matter how hard I try to focus on his energy.
He feels so distant and yet so close.
“What are you doing standing around?” a deep tone rumbles, startling me.
I glance behind a man with both hands crossed, his expression neutral staring at me blankly waiting for a response.
I try to voice out a reply but my tongue is tied.
How do I explain I’m in a bizarre state learning I have been deadened and dumped to serve as a slave in a pack I know nothing of.
“Get back to work” He orders, growing impatient.
“Yes sir” I say, turning around and heading wherever my feet take me.
The structure of the building is different from the one in our pack. Ours is designed skeptically and painted in bright colors while these walls are plain and dark mainly because the source of light is natural.
A room with its doors open, giving off a sweet smell of dandelions grabs my attention entering the room. I spot a lady.
She’s dressed in blue, facing the other direction so I can only see her orange curly hair.
She strides slowly to a chair and I notice the leg is broken if she rests her weight on it, it’s most likely broken and she might get hurt.
Sprinting I stop her by placing my hand on the chair, leaping away she gazes at me astonished then at my hand, her eyes flickering in rage misunderstanding my intentions.
She raises her hand which I easily catch mid-air. I was only trying to help her.
Her eyes flare as she pulls away from my grip.
“How dare you!” She screams in annoyance.
“I’m sorry lady I only- stopping me halfway she slaps me smoothly across the face.
“You filthy maid seems you’ve forgotten where your lane is” she spits.
Gripping my dress I stop myself from retaliating. I don’t want to get into more trouble for no reason.
“You must be mistaken I only tried-
“Silence!” She screams again interrupting me neglecting my justification.
Hurried footsteps rush into the room.
“Luna ” The warriors greet with a bow.
“So glad you’re here, take this nasty thing out of my presence and ensure she cleans the stables and all the floors for trying to prank me” She orders, following her orders they grip my hand pulling me out of the room when a crashing sound is heard.
Turning around, Luna is on the floor due to the broken chair.
I can’t stop myself as I burst out laughing. I stop when she glares at me.
She rises from the chair dusting her arms and legs walking to me, her eyes wild as she smacks me and I’m not given the chance to recover as she hits me once more.
Unable to protect myself as the guards grip my hands holding me in place as she tortures me, slapping and kicking so hard I swear I hear my bone crack, venting on me like I’m the one who made her fall.
Finally satisfied she permits them to carry me away, my face and belly ail.
They drag me to a dusty hall tossing me at the foot of the entrance. A few maids were on duty cleaning the mess hall.
They relieve them from their duties stating I’ll be the one to clean it all up.
Hesitating to go to work trying to heal my aching limbs they kick me on my back pushing me to the ground and I crash face first on the ground.
“Ha ha ha” A lady laughs amused.
Her heels click-clacking as she steps towards me.
“The only position you deserve” A voice I know too well asserts, raising up my head I feel blood trickle down from the point of impact, Riley comes into view a satisfied smile spreads on her face.
“Riley!” I say in disbelief, I expected to see Madam Von Grey, not Riley.
She had claimed to change and her life was in danger, all the bullshit she spat like I said I have seen a chameleon change its colors never a snake.
“You can’t be possible that shocked, you ruin my life, stole my lover and sent me to jail, How do you expect me to treat you after all that, claiming my spot as Luna when you’re nothing but a bug I squish under my foot” she steps her heels digging them into my flesh.
I cry out in pain, dragging my hand off her foot.
“I should have let you die under the judgment of the council” I spit in her face holding my bleeding arm.
“Return to your duties you pathetic slave you didn’t do me a favor you were just pretending to win Jaden and the hearts of the council
“I know you’re trying to resolve how I came up with this genius plan, don’t bother and don’t even think of trying to escape this is the Crysant pack they kill without mercy and punished severely I sold you off for a good price so better get back to work ” she orders laughing evilly as she walks away.
The price you pay for doing good, today Riley has shown me people are in it for their selfish gains no matter the good you’ve done for them.
“Are you deaf or something to get to work?” The guard orders.
I struggle from my spot on the floor, picking up a broom one of the maids had left behind and start cleaning the mess hall.
Following the instructions of their Luna, I have been assigned multiple chores, cleaning, washing and vacuuming the pack house with the help of the guards who supervised me, helping me survey the house.
I’ve finally been relieved of my duties, I’ve grown rusty having been comfortable when I was the one giving the orders. It takes me longer to carry out my duties and by the time I am done it’s past midnight.
In front of my new bedroom door, I lie back at the wooden door.
I don’t know what’s more disheartening, the fact I will be worked to death, the hopelessness of not finding my way back or the ache in my heart that I will never reunite with my mate.
And my child this is not the life I planned for her or him. I don’t want to bring a child into this life to turn out to be a servant.
If Riley discovers I am pregnant with Jaden’s child she’ll do everything in her power to kill my baby.
Stopping myself from shedding tears. I step away from the bedroom door.
I don’t know my way back to the pack house doesn’t mean I can’t try for my child at least if I break free from the walls I turn a rogue to fend for my child.
The halls are darker now there’s no moon tonight, just the dark blue sky.
Helping myself by holding onto the walls, I know I’m in the servant quarters. There’s usually a basement or the cellars which of course have a back exit.
Walking through the walks I hear a growling noise that makes my muscles tense, careful not to attract whoever it is I tip-toe as a man comes into view.
He’s in pain with an arrow in his knee not being able to walk further he crashes to the ground panting and yelps in pain.
