“Never mind!” I turned. Lucian laughed and followed.
The pack doctor declared me fit to go. I did not have any major injury and thanks to our healing capabilities, my cuts, and scratches were disappearing. Lucian looked visibly relaxed after I was declared unharmed. He escorted me back to his quarters. I could see people looking at us, then immediately running away or cowering in fear. As we entered our room, I asked Lucian again.
“So, what is Eliza’s problem?” I asked again.
He looked at me sheepishly.
“I reckon I might have led her on.” He mumbled.
I raised an eyebrow. “Led her on?”
He ran his hand through his hair and collapsed on the couch.
“When I was younger and had just turned 19. I had been tempted by her mysterious charm. At one point, I had even believed myself in love with her.” He looked apologetic.
“Did you love her?” I had never felt such a surge of jealousy ever.
“We all do foolish mistakes while young. But no, I knew she was not my mate, so I was not going to be with her. Besides, I heard her scheming.” He said with a smirk.
“Scheming?” I asked.
“I had overheard her speaking with another girl about how she intended to rule when we were mated. She had told her friend that she could make me do anything she wanted as long as she was sleeping with me.”
“So, you have slept with her! I should have her killed her.” I blurted out.
“That was years ago, Alice. I can still see the cold expression on her face when she had tossed her long hair over her shoulder and said…… Don’t be stupid. Love is for fools. I never told anyone about the conversation I had heard. That night, when Eliza had come to me, I told her that we were through. But years later, Eliza still does not seem to understand that I would never take her as my mate.”
“So now I have to deal with your jealous ex as well?” I sighed.
“Of course not! I will deal with her. But in a way, it was good that she challenged you. The pack has seen your strength. Now they would respect you for defeating the most powerful female beta. I must say I was impressed myself. Where did you learn to fight so well?” He asked with an amused expression.
It felt nice when he praised me.
“It was nothing great, I am an Alpha after all,” I replied.
“You still look tired, why don’t you catch on your sleep?”
“Only on one condition, if you join me.” He gave a sly smile.
“Fat chance! Mr Blake,” I quipped.
“A man can always try,” he shrugged.
I laughed,” why don’t you go back to bed and catch up on your sleep. Meanwhile,
I will keep myself busy duelling with your jealous Exes?”
“I don’t have that many Exes, at least not in this pack. After Eliza, I swore off dating anyone from my pack. Didn’t want any bad vibes.”
“Thank God for the small mercies,” I muttered.
“Now come on, go back to sleep, “I placed my hand on his chest and pushed him towards his bedroom. It was like pushing on a wall of muscles.
He laughed and held my wrists, pulling me towards him. As a result, I tripped and fell towards him. Colliding with his chest.
My breathing stopped as I looked up into his green depths. I suddenly realized that he was half-naked, and I was dressed in just a robe.
“You look extremely hot and irresistible in a robe.” He whispered in my ears.
“The way you say it, it sounds very erotic,” I said, raising my eyebrows.
It was meant to be a sarcastic comment, but somehow with my breathless state, it
did not come out that way. He gave a sly grin.
“True, if only you would let me. I can show you how erotic I can be.” He said silkily.
“I am sure you would,” I said, rolling my eyes.
“However, you need your rest,” I insisted, trying to stand up straight and get out of his grip.
Of course, he would not let that happen. He kept his hold on my left elbow, then with his other hand reached back and freed my hair from the slick ponytail which I had bound them in.
He watched with amusement as my dark waist-length curls tumbled down past my shoulders in soft, smooth waves. He wrapped his hands in the luxurious bounty of my hair and pulled me close for a scorching hot kiss.
My lips parted immediately to welcome his tongue, inviting him to taste and be tasted. My hands moved on their own and rolled on his hard chest. He shivered when my fingers gently rubbed over his nipples, he growled against my lips.
A sudden cold draft on my breast made me realize that he had managed to part my robe and was gently caressing my breasts. Teasing and tweaking my nipples sent waves of pleasure down my spine. My nails bit into his back, pulling him closer.
I had no idea how long we had been making out, curses dropped like anchors from his lips when a knock sounded at the door.
“Everyone’s waiting for you, Alpha,” Damon said with a mischievous twinkle in his eye as the door swung open. I nearly died of embarrassment and pulled my robes together.
Lucian helped me to my feet from the carpet floor we had been lying down? When did that happen?
“We need to leave now?” Lucian asked as he straightened his track pants, while I fixed my hair.
“Wait, are you going somewhere?” I asked, surprised.
“Yes, love, there is an Alpha meeting which I need to attend. Your brother will be there as well.” He responded casually while walking towards the showers.
I gave a polite smile at Damon, trying not to blush under his knowing eyes.
“He hasn’t slept well,” I said, trying to strike some conversation.
“Alpha Lucian always puts the pack’s welfare over his. He goes beyond himself to see that everyone is happy, safe, and well provided for. It takes a toll on him sometimes. Now that you are here, we are all hoping that you would be taking care of his needs and sharing some pack responsibilities. Being a lone Alpha is not easy.” Damon said matter-of-factly. While I walloped myself in guilt. I was anything but a good mate.
I did not deserve to be Lucian’s mate. My wolf moaned in sorrow. Finally, Lucian was gone, and I was left alone to my devices.
“Alice! How are you? I was worried sick about you.” Emma said from the other side when I called her.
“I am fine, Emma; you know Lucian would never harm his mate.”
“I am glad to know your trust in the mate bond.” She chuckled. “So, did you speak with him?”
I bit my lip; I should have had ‘the talk’ with Lucian on the first day itself, but somehow, I was not getting the appropriate opportunity.
“I didn’t get the chance,” I replied.
Emma sighed.
“You know that is your problem, your lack of communication. What are you so afraid of?”
