Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 66 – Alice the Reluctant Luna

“Nothing as of now, I am just trying to find out her whereabouts and her accomplices.”

The car turned into a dirt road. I stopped the van. It was a narrow, solitary road with forests on both sides. Rick raised an eyebrow.

“We’ll follow on the foot,” I said. If we continued following by van. She would become alert.

We both grabbed guns from the back seat and ran through the forest. Our superior strength and speed enabled us to catch up with the car. It went into an estate that was covered with the highest security. We got past that easily, the motion sensors and security beams were easy to take down.

We crept up the hill on our bellies to stay away from the sensors. As I lay on the manicured lawn next to Rick, I assessed the house. It was several stories and surrounded by a guard wall. I could see figures moving at regular intervals in the house and along the roofline.

“I think there are more in there, do you think it’s a good idea? Or should we return with reinforcements?” Rick whispered.

“What if she escaped before we return?” I said.

We walked along the wall and were contemplating how to enter, the door beside us opened. A man walked out, letting the door fall close as he walked away. Rick reached out and grabbed the handle a second before it shut. We slipped into what was a delivery entrance. It was brightly lit, and an armed guard was inside as we passed through the door. My hand wrapped around his neck, snapping it before he made a sound.

“This kind of house has security systems. It would alert the cops. We’ll have to disable it.” I whispered.

“It’s going to be guarded. If we can take them out fast, I can disable a chunk of their security,” Rick whispered.

We found the security room and there were 2 armed men inside. We easily dispatched them with claws. They were humans. I barred the door to the security room, as Rick mangled the panels in front of us.

Outside the door, I could hear the stamping of feet, they were werewolves. They shouted at us to open the door and bullets came flying through the walls. They were laced with poison.

“They won’t be able to turn it back on. I think I’ve also taken down some alarms; there won’t be audible alarms going off.” Rick whispered.

The lights in the security suite died instantly and were replaced with backup lights. Bullets were whizzing past us in the dim half-light. Rick and I crouched low as the men assaulted the door and tried to get in. They were shooting so many rounds, we’d be hit eventually. Suddenly, the light died completely. I hurried toward the door and a bullet grazed the side of my arm. Shifting into the hybrid, I broke through the door and attacked the men in the hall. The hall was in chaos.

Some men had guns and were shooting. I heard shots coming from behind me. It seemed Rick was firing on the men. Working together, we took out the contingent that was there. Between Rick and I, we obliterated everyone we came across. I heard the opening and closing of doors. Then running footsteps.

“They are escaping,” I shouted at Rick, and we dashed upstairs.

There were two women and 1 man, who smelled familiar. He was a wolf, of course.

“Chase them!” I shouted.

They knew we were there. They had the guns with those potent bullets. I could feel my arms sting with poison where the bullet had grazed it. I’d have to take heavy fire if I wanted to approach them.

Rick and I grabbed two guns from the dead wolves and ran after the retreating figures. They ran down a maze of corridors and escaped out of the back door.

“I am calling Daniel, “Rick shouted.

But there was no time. I followed them out into the backyard. They were jumping into a small truck, its engine revving. I bolted for it and was hit with several rounds from a gun, the woman was firing at me. My upper leg bone was hit on the right, I knew it. I just managed to move out of the line of fire. Crouching and gathering my strength, I grabbed the back of the truck and held it with all my might. Its tire whirled on the concrete making a whirring noise, but the truck didn’t budge. Suddenly, a large brown form jumped next to me, Rick was next to me holding the truck back. I dug my claws into the metal of the back of the truck. The woman loaded her gun and aimed at Rick. I pushed him on instinct. Pain seared my chest as bullets hit my lungs. Rick had stabled himself, and he managed to grab the woman with the gun and tossed her out of the back of the truck. Metal tore as the side of the truck was ripped to shreds.

“Leave the truck,” Rick shouted.

I did, as we watched, it suddenly sped ahead and tilted dangerously.

“It’s going to crash,” Rick said, those were the last words I heard before everything went dark.

Alice –

“And then they lived happily ever after…..”

I closed the book and smiled at a very sleepy Namara. I had volunteered to babysit her and give some spare time to Katherine and Dallas. They had become something of adoptive parents for Namara. She was a sweet girl. Despite the tragedy, she had retained her spunk. Spending time with her was delightful. I laid her sleeping form on the bed and tiptoed out of her room. Lucian was away because of this rogue business, and no one knew where he was, or when he would be returning.

I laid down on my bed, contemplating calling him. He had closed off our mind link,

I couldn’t sense him.

I had dozed off when I was woken up by a low pain in my chest. I woke up sweating, something was wrong, Lana was howling, and I felt this weird emptiness in my heart.

“Lucian!” I said aloud to the empty room, he was not well, I could sense it. I was unable to reach him through the mind link. Restless, I walked out of my room. Maybe Damon or other Betas would know Lucian’s whereabouts.

A small sound from behind indicated that Damon was approaching.

“Madam Luna, you look worried,” he called out to me

“Where is Lucian? Is it normal for him to disappear like this?” I asked, fearing the worst.

“None of us can contact him. He has never done this before.” Damon replied.

That increased my concern. The phone call which came later confirmed my fears. “Lucian is injured, Alice. I am bringing him back.” Rick said from the other side of the phone.

The next few hours were like a blur for me. The betas and the medical team were frantic and so was the rest of the pack. The world was starting to close off. I suddenly became very aware of my breathing, and the thumping of my heart was the only sound I could hear. Everything felt like it was moving in slow motion, and nothing I saw made any sense at all.

“Lucian!” I screamed as his limp, bloody body was wheeled into the infirmary. He can’t be?…..no! I could still feel the bond. He was alive, though barely hanging.

“What happened to him?” I asked Rick and Daniel, both of them were dishevelled and injured. Though they were already healing and would require minor medical assistance.

“He saved my life,” Rick whispered.

“What? I wasn’t even aware that Lucian was with you. What’s going on?”

“We tracked the rogues and Regina,” Rick explained their mission and the impromptu decision to capture Regina.

“We succeeded in killing them all, there were 2 witches and Alpha Adam. He was collaborating with Regina. Lucian was right, it was not just the rogues, some Alphas were also involved with her. We managed to follow Regina, and take them surprised,” Rick explained.

“But, why didn’t you take warriors? He never told me anything about this.” I choked through my tears.

“Lucian wanted to keep this discreet, he had a feeling that there were moles in the packs. So, he planned this discreetly with Daniel and me. Although I agree we should have been more organized, Lucian would not be in danger,” he said morosely looking at the ICU door.

“What happened to them?”

“All dead, the witches died in the car crash and I killed Adam when he tried to attack us.”

“So his pack….?” Realization dawned on me.

“Yes, his pack is mine now. However, that’s not the priority, Lucian must recover. We need to focus on him.” Rick said grimly.

Lucian was riddled with bullets. Our bodies can recover from the bullets. But the poison had penetrated his bloodstream. Thus, reducing his supernatural healing. He was in constant agony and no matter how many painkillers or antidote was administered he was not recovering. The pack was in a sombre mood. Their fate hanging in balance, if the Alpha dies the pack is usually taken over by the next Alpha relative, or it scatters if there is no capable leader.

“Is he …..is he going to die?” I asked, the healer, as I looked at Lucian’s heavily bandaged body.

“Madam Luna, we are trying our best, the poison has reached his heart. We are just hoping that it flushes out without causing any further damage.” The healer replied grimly.

“His wolf? Is it fine?” I asked, fearing if Lucian would lose his wolf, like his mother. That would be worse than death for an Alpha like Lucian.

“On the contrary, his wolf is fine. But it’s lost, it’s unable to connect with his human side, hence the Alpha’s body is not healing.” The healer explained.

I had no idea what he meant, but I was ready to do whatever it took to bring Lucian back from the brink of death.

“What can we do to cure him?” I asked frantically.
