“You don’t deserve to work here, you aren’t even part of the pack, no one wants you around, and how dare you speak like that to Jared! Treat him so disrespectfully and that dress, it’s mine now. He gave it to me. It’s clearly more my style than yours. You could never pick out something that nice.”
That raised Wynta’s eyebrow. “Are you sure about that, Carlotti?” she asked simply.
“You made him waste pack dollars on you, and all because I hear you took yourself away, and stupidly got yourself injured. Do you know he was shamed and lashed because of you? And so was I!”
“No, I didn’t know, why were you lashed?” she asked curiously. “What did you do that ticked your own Alpha off? Somehow Carlotti, I don’t think it was my fault. I never even saw you that day, so…” she shrugged.
Carlotti’s fist hit her desk and she glared at her. “The Alpha blamed my broken-down car for you not showing up. So, I was lashed as well, because Jared put you out of his car to come and get me, and, of course, he would do that. Not only am I the beta’s youngest daughter, we’re secretly dating.”
“Hmm, not so secret now if you’re telling me.”
“You’ll say nothing, or I’ll have you beaten,” Carlotti snarled, “In fact, if you say one word until Jared is ready to announce it officially, I’ll have you fired.”
Wynta looked at this, clearly Jared-obsessed she-wolf, and stated simply and calmly, “I thought Edward was happy for his sons to date anyone they liked, just can’t Mark and Mate them unless they’re Fate Mates.” She did know this. Ethan was quite the playboy and had, from what she could tell, a new girlfriend every few months, it wasn’t frowned upon at all.
“Well, now that Lance is mated the position as Heir is his, so Jared can mark and mate anyone he likes.”
“Got himself a prize of a girlfriend, then I see,” she snorted and shook her head. “You don’t need to come in here and lord yourself over me Carlotti, I’m not interested in your so-called boyfriend, but I don’t see it, you and him not really, I don’t think Jared is the type to date a woman, human or otherworldly that lacks an education, and doesn’t have a job.”
She was snarled at and then all her things were slashed off the desk and onto the floor as Carlotti lost her temper, “You’re a real b***h and don’t deserve all this attention you get from Edward and Jared.”
Wynta sighed as she looked at her things all over the floor. She wasn’t at the point where she could just squat down and pick things up, her knee wouldn’t allow that yet. “Did you really have to do that?” Wynta sighed in dismay, as she shook her head. “Can’t you just act like an adult and talk normally, not pitch a childish fit over something I had nothing to do with, knew nothing about even.”
She got up from her chair and walked to the side of her desk only to find Carlotti right there,” Three lashes I took. So, three hits you’ll take.” Carlotti grated out and slapped Wynta right across the face.
Wynta moved out of the way of the second one as she felt anger rise within her, and she reacted as any rogue would on pure instinct alone, snapped both her hands out and grabbed her by her blouse and yanked her forward until her face was right in Carlotti’s, “You forget I’m a rogue I see, I won’t take this s**t, and I won’t get pack punishment either.” she grated out shocking the she-wolf completely, and catching her off guard.
Wynta shoved her back away from her and snapped a foot into her, and she went stumbling backwards and bounced off the wall, and Wynta cried out in pain as her own knee screamed at her and she kind of hopped in place for a moment before latching onto her desk for support as other staff came into the office yelling at both of them to stop it.
“Get out of my office,” Wynta snapped at Carlotti. “I don’t answer to you, or anyone you know. Think yourself lucky I’m injured and in the office, or you might just have gotten your ass kicked.” She watched as Carlotti stood staring at her.
“You’ll pay for this. I’ll see you fired for this. Violence in the workplace is a sackable offense. She stalked to the door. “Oh, and I don’t work here, so there will be no backlash for me, just you.” Then she was gone from the office.
“What the hell was that?” Tallah asked.
“Who the bloody hell knows!” Wynta muttered as she reached out for her chair and sat down in it. “Fuck.” She muttered as she clutched at her knee. Her bloody instincts had taken over, and now she’d likely caused more damage to herself. It wouldn’t be so bad if she had a wolf and could heal like regular wolfen folk.
She looked at her things on the floor and sighed. She’d not been looking for a fight, just trying to pick her things up was all. What the hell was wrong with that she-wolf? Though those last words she’d stated about having her fired. She wondered now if that was what this was all about. Was Carlotti just trying to get rid of the rogue that worked for the pack?
She didn’t know, she thanked her staff for picking up her things from the floor and putting them back on her desk, told them to go back to work. Whatever had happened would be caught on the office cameras, and she’d not started anything. Yes, she’d retaliated, but that was purely self-defense.
Then she’d gotten her heat pack from the desk draw and walked with some effort out to the break room and heated it up and just kind of sat in there with that heat pack on. She knew she had a split lip from that unexpected hit she’d taken, and her face still hurt. When the pain died down in her knee, she got up and made her way to the lady’s room and looked at her face. No bruise, that was a bonus.
She made her way back to her office and got back to work. There was no point in reporting it. Carlotti was right about one thing; she didn’t work here, so it wasn’t considered workplace violence on Carlotti’s part. But it would be on hers, she sighed and wondered why people or wolves couldn’t just get along.
She didn’t cause trouble. Yes, she had a rogue attitude and no filter on her mouth and the things that she said. But she worked diligently with her team, and was she thought a nice. supervisor. She never yelled at her team, just sat and discussed any issues that needed to be resolved, actively worked with them to help fix it. She liked her team and had only taken this promotion on the condition that they came with her.
She’d gotten them all a raise, even though their titles were all the same, she also liked working here. It was not only close to her apartment, but she’d actually, for the first time, thought she’d made some friends. No one here had stabbed her in the back, or tried to play her work off as theirs. She’d had a few team dinners with them even, and it was nice when they all went off and did educational events and functions.
She sighed to herself when she found Dwane standing in her office an hour later, she knew he was Carlotti’s stepbrother. He walked across the room and leaned down on her desk and she saw his eyes move to her split lip, and he shook his head. “Edward is going to be unhappy about that,” he stated.
“I didn’t start it,” she stated simply.
“I’m aware of that, I know what Carlotti is like, and it’s going to be dealt with. I will need to talk to those in this office that saw it, so I’m going to take your staff for a private chat. I can’t leave it to HR their well, not like you and I.
