Chapter 56 – The Alpha She Does Not Care (Wynta & Jared) Novel

Tracked that scent on the breeze from his apartment all the way until she’d gotten home and stepped inside and Emerson had stated she was home safe. Though he’d noticed something odd himself, a car near the office had been near her home a block away. She’d not even noticed it.

Someone was following her, he thought, it was the first time he’d seen that and, because she’d snuck off on Friday, he’d not been able to know if it was a mere coincidence or not. The man had been human though, so he doubted, of much threat to Wynta. Only to have Jared remind him she herself was basically human..

They were going to be trailing her today to find out if it was just a one-off thing or not, but that number plate had come from an office employee, and one on Wynta’s own floor at that. It didn’t bode well as far as he was concerned. He got up and snagged Dwane, and they made their way to the marketing floor.

He could use Dwane for a cover to see if that man was in the office today without actively looking it up. He was just a member of one of the teams and hadn’t been to that meeting. today. He stood listening to Dwane talk to the teams one at a time and the man he was. looking for, Barry Moore, was at his desk sitting with his team.

He smiled, shook Jared and Dwane’s hands, and answered all Dwane’s questions. There. seemed nothing amiss about the man, perhaps it had been nothing at all, just a coincidence. He never once looked towards Wynta’s office. Though everyone in this department had gotten the staff email about not letting those that weren’t company employees onto the floor.

That Carlotti, even being one of their CEO’s stepdaughters, had now been banned from the building for the time being, due to her coming in and assaulting one of the staff for nothing more than her own jealousy of seeing Wynta Morgan talking to a staff member, that Carlotti had a crush on and had gone to warn her off.

He opted that evening to follow Wynta from the building himself, had the security footage of the marketing floor running on a screen in his office. She was working alone in the office. It was already 8pm and still she was working. Her team had left the office just after five thirty. They’d all been in her office talking to her, and she’d clearly sent them home before herself.

He wondered just how late she was going to work, when she finally stood up and stretched in her office, and finally he saw her grabbing her things. He got up himself and made his way from his office to follow her. It would give a gap of a few minutes, but that was fine with him. He didn’t need to be right behind her.

He stepped out of the express elevator to see her being let out the front door by security, and he strolled along as he looked at the cars out there. Was there anything suspicious? Was

Barry Moore’s car out there or not?

He saw nothing out of the ordinary by the office but strolled along about 25 meters behind her, not close enough for her to hear his footsteps or pick up his presence, and he didn’t keep his eyes on her, which would give her the feeling of being watched, just watched the streets for anyone else that might look to be tailing her.

He already knew that she wouldn’t scent him, and he kept his footfall casual and light, not in pace with hers, not that he thought she’d pick that up. She was just on her regular route home and didn’t seem to have a concern in the world, and he realized just how easy it would be to snatch this she-wolf off the street.

Likely not a good thing, though it was only five blocks to her apartment building, and at this time of night on a Monday, there was hardly anyone about. If a car pulled up and if they were wolves, they would likely only need one to jump out, grab her and yank her into it, and she’d be gone, just like that, 20 seconds and she have vanished. He didn’t like it.

Creed suddenly lifted his head inside his mind, and made Jared breathe deeply. He’d picked up another scent out here on the street. There was another pack in the area, though as they breathed it in, it wasn’t one he or his beast recognized. They breathed in again, though this time, with the intent of catching its bloodline, ‘warrior rank’ Creed told him.

His eyes were on the move a moment later as they tracked where the scent was coming from. Creed gave his sight a boost and there, off in the distance, as they looked down the street, they found where the scent came from. A car was parked just across the road from Wynta’s apartment building and there was a man sitting in there, and he was watching her walk down the street.

Jared was focused on that man who finally moved his attention to Jared and registered just what he was himself. Jared, however, did not notice that Wynta had stopped walking, as she came to her apartment building, until he bumped right into her. She reacted as any rogue she-wolf would. Out of pure instinct, she spun on him to defend herself, but his eyes were still on that man across the road. She was unlikely to harm him an Alpha Wolf. When she was wolf-less, his sight stayed on that warrior even as he started his car and drove off.

Pain shot through Jared’s groin, and a snarl came from him, as she struck him in her panic to defend herself, a low but effective blow. Then, as he moved his eyes towards her, he was hit with an aerosol of something to his eyes. It burned like buggery and as he gasped, he tasted its bitterness on his tongue as well as breathed it in.

Then he was just kind of staggering around as he felt Creed snarl inside his mine as he got. the sensation of his own wolf being dragged away from him and buried into the dark recess of his own mind.

Jared reached out to latch on to her arm and grated out her name, as his vision started to blur and started to fail him, and he realized just what she’d hit him with; it was wolfsbane. She’d sprayed him right in the eyes and mouth in two places that would absorb the aerosol quickly into his bloodstream. His wolf was already gone, it was too late to stop it now. He was affected by it and going to be out cold on the footpath in just a few minutes, and he knew it.

He didn’t know how long he had before he was going to be dragged under completely. He was fighting it with all he had, but like his wolf, he was going to be rendered unconscious. He heard her startled gasp of his name, as he blinked furiously, trying to keep it at bay. His eyesight was already blurry and starting to darken on the edge of his felid of vision.

He heard her curse out loud though it sounded sluggish to him, and then she was up against him, letting his body lean on hers heavily as she pulled him his weight. He kind of stumbled along with her, had no choig quickly, trying to support.

He muttered her name and something unintelligible as he felt darkness finally claim him, and his world kind of tilted, and he felt himself falling and hoped she had the strength to get him. inside and off the street. He couldn’t even mind-link to his unit with his wolf gone, there was nothing he could do now.

Wynta

There it was again the feeling that someone was following her. She kept her steps regular and even and kept herself composed, as she wondered after seeing Nolan on the weekend. If it was him or one of his men. Had he tracked her down? It was possible, she supposed, if he had gotten the car’s number plate that had driven her home yesterday.

She bit her lip but tried to give nothing away as she got closer to her apartment, but as she came up to her apartment building, she slowed her steps to get her wolfsbane from her purse and she sensed it; a definite wolfen presence behind her, but it was the car and the man sitting across from her apartment that made her realize she was in trouble, there was more than one of them.

She actually did know all the cars that belonged to the neighbors around here. That wasn’t one she recognized, nor was that man in it who had been looking right at her, but was no longer paying her attention. He was looking behind her, she was about to be snatched off the street and she knew it. That thought pumped adrenaline through her body. She stopped walking as if looking in her bag for her keys. She had to take matters into her own hands before they got the upper hand.

That wolf behind her ran right into her a moment later, likely talking with his buddy across the street getting ready to coordinate their movements, and his hand landed on her waist as if to steady himself as she pulled on her sunglasses, and she spun round and kneed him right in the groin as she lifted the wolfsbane, she held her breath and pressed the button down.

She wasn’t about to affect herself with it. Even though the wind wasn’t blowing towards her and up the street in the direction of her assailant, she wouldn’t risk it, there were two of them. Her eyes widened behind her sunglasses as she realized it was Jared Hayes, that she’d just attacked, and then she saw him stumbling about.
