Chapter 64 – The Alpha She Does Not Care (Wynta & Jared) Novel

Even on the weekend, she’d given off the impression she wasn’t interested in stopping to talk to him, didn’t want to see him. She certainly wasn’t about to smile at him and go, ‘Oh hey, how have you been?’ and hug him all friendly like.

She couldn’t make heads or tails of his reaction to seeing her. She sighed and accessed the wolfen world’s intranet, used her home pack ‘Blue Ridge Pack’ to do so, and then sat in her chair and stared at the password. If she put Nolan’s name in and was denied access, it meant that his father, Peter, was still in charge.

If Nolan’s name worked, it meant that Nolan was now the Alpha to that pack. The line sat there flashing on the screen as it waited for her to put a name in, to be granted permission or denied access. She didn’t care if he was the Alpha, that was none of her business.

All she was doing was trying to figure out if he was hunting her, as Edward had stated he might be, if she was going to be dealing with an actual Alpha to a pack or an Heir to a pack. Each had to be dealt with in a slightly different way.

As an heir, Nolan would have to report back to his father and get permission for certain things, even where a rogue was concerned. Like how one was to capture and bring one in if that was his goal, just like Jared had to, even at 82 years old, he still had to answer to his father, Edward.

Something she herself knew and could count on at times to keep herself out of too much trouble, because it also put limits on Jared himself, as to just what he could do to her if she ticked him off too much, because Edward would round on his own son. She’d heard that already, Jared had taken a lashing for just putting her out of his car.

Not that Jared had mentioned it to her or blamed her for it. Either he knew he was wrong and would be punished or he had been warned he would be, if something went wrong, and just acknowledged his wrongdoing and took that lashing in his stride. Edward, for her, was kind of a safety net, where his son was concerned, she supposed.

She finally put Peter Holland’s name into the password box, and she was granted permission to access the wolfen intranet. A little bit of relief washed through her, that meant Nolan was only an heir and would have to get approval for certain things. It made her feel a little bit better. But would he need to get permission to survey her?

She didn’t actually know that one, because she had been a pack member once and just likely seen as to have vanished from the pack. She’d severed herself just minutes after stepping out of the pack. She’d always believed that Alpha Peter hadn’t felt it happen due to her being wolf-less, she’d never had to pledge loyalty to him because she’d never gotten her wolf. She’d become a pack member as an orphaned pup.

She didn’t know if there was a difference in what he would feel between a pack member with a wolf going rogue or a wolf-less pack member turning themselves rogue. She’d not really felt all that much. A simple soft snap was all she’d felt. She’d heard it was painful for most to feel themselves being severed, she’d not had that at all. So she just presumed neither had her Alpha.

She’d not really even felt that much pain when rejecting Nolan either. He’d hissed in pain but didn’t seem to be in agony over it. Maybe it was very different to be severed from a wolf-less Mate or pack member for an Alpha.

Wynta logged out of the intranet. She had no need of accessing it, had simply been looking to see who the Alpha was. Peter had been a good Alpha to her, always smiled and nodded to her. Occasionally asked her how she was doing, he’d spent those days she’d been in the hospital, trying to track down who’d taken her, and abandoned her out there in the woods.

She’d never told him she’d done that to herself, just stated she didn’t know, woke up out there chained to the tree, and then woke up not chained to it. She saw no one. She was wolf-less, with practically no senses at all. She’d not been able to tell him what the wolf who’d taken her smelled like or if she’d scented anyone around.

Her eyes moved to her right wrist, that burn scar was under her wristwatch. Edward had seen it once and asked her about it. She’d stated quite simply she’d gotten it from a silver cuff. Which had made that man frown in thought for a long time. Though he’d not asked her any more questions about it, she’d thought he looked as though he was trying to figure something else out, but he’d not brought it up since.

She looked at her phone as it chimed, and frowned a little. She rarely, if ever got messages or calls, certainly not when she was at work. Her team could just walk in and ask her whatever they wanted.

There were now eight new numbers in it, she remembered, and she sighed as she picked it up. It was Jared, ‘My office, please.’ Was all it read, and she sighed to herself, why did she need to go to his office, and why hadn’t he had his secretary just call her on the office number?

‘Why?’ she sent back and waited.

‘Come, please.’ He replied almost immediately.

She stared at those two words and nearly tossed her phone on the desk. Those two little words, as innocent as they were, annoyed her greatly. She sat there and wondered if he’d written it that way on purpose, to make her think about what had happened last night.

How she had not been allowed to c*m, he’d denied her that very moment at every turn, and she’d been the one to say please, letting him know that she had wanted more of what he was doing to her.

Or was she now just overthinking it, and reading into those two words more than she should, because in her mind that’s what she thought. He likely hadn’t meant it in the way she was thinking about it. She stood up even though she was annoyed about having to go and talk with him. Why couldn’t he just call her and tell her what he wanted?

She walked out of her office thinking annoyingly about his text and last night, ‘Come please. Well, I would have, but someone denied me that at every turn.’ She also had a feeling if she didn’t go to his office she was going to find him in her office. He’d made his point the other day, it was loud and clear.

She walked onto the 10th floor and Stacey waved her right into his office. “He’s expecting you.”

Wynta rapped twice on his door as she stepped inside his office. “You wanted to see me.”

“Come,” he stated as he waved a hand at the chair across from him. She watched him sign a document on his desk. Though that word irked her completely, he appeared to be all business.

She nearly rolled her eyes but managed to hold it in. If she did, and he saw it, he’d know he’d gotten to her with that one word. So she simply walked over to sit herself down.

Jared tapped a stack of photos on the edge of his desk. “Pick one,” he stated, still not looking at her.

She frowned at him and then looked at the photos. They were all pictures of men. “Who are they? And why am I looking at them?” she asked out of curiosity.
