Chapter 69 – The Alpha She Does Not Care (Wynta & Jared) Novel

He was not so dumb, he had been making deductions about her for the past five years, and he was starting to piece things together, it seemed. “It makes no difference, Edward. I left that pack, so why would I go back?” she asked him.

“That is the question now, isn’t it. What would see you go back?…” he murmured, and she could once again see his brain ticking. “I could think of one reason and Alpha’s heir to your home pack would take an interest in you after all this time. Enough interest to have their tech department check that car company, and find the details of you,” he sighed.

“She’s his rejected Mate,” Kyan murmured.

Wynta turned her eyes on the man who snapped his mouth shut and stated a quick apology. But Edward was also looking at him as well. It seems the man was following along with Edwards’ thoughts but didn’t have the presence of mind to hold his tongue.

Edward turned his eyes right back to her. “That is exactly what I was thinking.” He nodded. “If that is the case, he could well have regrets, and be looking to reclaim you, Wynta.”

She shook her head ‘no’ at him, “It’s not that,” she stated. “More like I got something on him, and he wants to make sure I don’t tell anyone.” She regretted those words the moment they were out of her mouth, she’d been trying to deflect his attention from her having and ex Alpha Mate, and only now drew his attention to a full threat, and she knew it just by the look on his face.

“Then you will likely need more than a driver. If he knows where you live, Wynta. He could be looking to come in and silence you. As a rogue, you have no one to turn to. He’ll understand that.” Edward was looking right at her a concerned frown on his face.

“That warrior also saw Jared, Edward. So I think it will be reported back that I’ve got an affiliation even though there is no actual pack attachment.”

“I don’t like it,” he muttered and turned to Kyan, I want all your senses on and your window down a c***k. If you so much as smell anything that is not human, regardless of what it is, I want you to inform Jared and his unit. They’ll all be in mind-linking range from here in the office or in their apartments, even if you’re at Wynta’s.”

“Yes, Alpha.” Kyan nodded.

“I’ll go and discuss this with Jared and his unit,” Edward told her, and then stepped away. “Oh. He stopped and pulled a piece of paper from his pocket. “The pack handyman replaced the lock on your apartment today, it’s now coded like all inside the pack,” he put the paper on the desk and pushed it at her “That’s the code to your door.” He stated and was gone from her office, Kyan trailing him.

She picked up the paper as she frowned about Edward just changing her locks of his own accord. It was five digits long. She’d not approved that, it seems Edward really did have concerns about that warrior outside her apartment. He was putting into place things around her as though she was a pack member. She knew it was what he wanted, but was it really necessary?

She read the pass code. It meant nothing to her, just five random numbers, 52733, but she put that piece of paper in her handbag for when she got home.

Wynta

Kyan had been diligently waiting outside the office to take her home. She’d sighed to herself and stopped walking as she stood there and just looked at him for a moment. As she watched him step forward, from leaning on the car, he opened the back door for her, and now was just standing there holding the car door open.

She didn’t think it was right for him to being do that. He was an Elite warrior within Edwards’ pack, someone of a high standing, and now he was relegated to being a chauffeur for her, a rogue.

She wasn’t even a pack member, surely, he must be annoyed by having to take on this job. He was now just staring at her, waiting for her to get in the car. She’d not asked for a driver, didn’t really want one, and if she did have to have one from the pack, why wasn’t it an omega? Or why couldn’t Edward have just hired a human who did this for a living?

She was suddenly nudged forward from behind, as a hand pressed to the small of her back and she was made to walk forward. Her eyes moved to the person, half expecting it to be Edward, only to find it wasn’t, it was his son; she glared at Jared.

He chuckled softly, “It must be annoying to have me tell you what to do,” he murmured. “Just go and get in the car, or father will insist on what he said up in his office. Somehow, I don’t think you want that to happen.” He gave her quite the firm push towards the car that was waiting for her as he stepped away himself.

She did not want to be made to live with Jared, Goddess only knew what would happen. She walked over and got into the car only to hear Jared state, “That’s a good girl do as I tell you,” and she heard the fully amused tone, her head whipped around to stare at him as the door was closed. He waved at her, and there was a smirk on his face, then he just walked away.

She was more than tempted to get out of the car, that her hand was on the handle before she knew what she was doing. Only to have Andy lean on the door and look at her. “Don’t do it, Wynta.” He smiled at her. “He’s just pushing your buttons to see what will actually tick you off. He’s just playing with you.”

Andy was the Gamma, and he’d likely felt her annoyance and frustration as Jared seemingly got his way. “I was going to get in the car anyway,” she muttered and turned away from him as Kyan got behind the driver’s seat.

“Home ma’am?” he asked.

“Yes, thank you,” she stated. She wouldn’t be rude to him even if she was angry now, her anger wasn’t for him.

She sighed as he pulled up out the front of her place and went to open his door to get out, and she knew it was because he was going to open hers. “Kyan, please don’t get the door for me, I’m uncomfortable with you doing that. I also don’t think it’s appropriate for you, an Elite, to be driving me around.”

“It’s fine ma’am.” He stated, “The Alpha informed me it would only be for a week or so, just to see if anyone is tailing you.” He turned and looked at her from his seat. “He has concerns about your safety, is all.”

“I’ve been a rogue for over a decade, I’m fine.” She told him with a shrug.

“Hmm, that may be so ma’am, but everyone thinks that they are safe until the day they’re not. I also heard what was said in your office. If that Alpha was your former Mate, it’s completely possible that he has regrets, and would try to get you back, so tracking you down is the first thing he’ll do. After that, he’ll try and make contact, but if he sees that you have a wolfen presence around you, protecting you, he’ll hesitate, maybe even change his mind.”
