Chapter 70 – The Alpha She Does Not Care (Wynta & Jared) Novel

“What do you actually do inside that pack?” she didn’t think he was just an Elite.

“Retrieval team ma’am, so despite you thinking this is beneath me, it’s actually not. This is part and parcel of my job. Did you know that Edward has a Private Investigation business, where we also track down humans for those that need it as well? I’m used to driving people around or sitting in cars watching for things. Don’t concern yourself with my being your driver for a few days,” he told her.

“Well, to be honest with you, I think it’s very unlikely that Alpha I came across is going to try and snatch me, Kyan.” She told him simply and opened the door for herself.

“I’ll see you at a quarter to nine ma’am. I’ll text you when I arrive, Edward gave me your number.” he held out a piece of paper. “This is my number, save it to your phone, Please don’t stand around outside and wait,” he told her.

Wynta sighed and nodded to him, “Alright,” she agreed, and headed inside her apartment building, where she stood and looked at the new door lock. She touched it and nothing happened. Tapped it, and again and nothing happened. She put her hand on it, tried to move the black panel in case it was just a cover, and it slid upwards, revealing a key pad.

She fished out the piece of paper with the code that Edward had given her, and punched in the code, then really looked at the numbers that were lit up and the letters that were attached to those numbers. Then she shook her head and stepped inside her apartment, as she formulated words from those letters in her head.

She was going to punch Edward one day, she knew what he wanted.

For her to stand before his son on a full moon, though she’d not really thought about that until this very moment. She was now under protection from an elite who was a retrieval expert.

She’d originally thought that Edward just wanted her to mated to anyone inside his pack. But now as she thought about it, with the way he’d had Jared be the one to pick her up for that Luna Ceremony, Jared be the one to hunt for her, something he’d been lashed for even; her not setting foot inside that pack.

Her brain was really ticking now, as she pieced it all together, Edward had wanted them to be seen arriving together, not something she’d wanted herself, but that day in itself had been a full moon, he had intentionally put her right next to his son on a full moon. He’d never done that before with his other boys, and he had three other sons. What was so special about Jared?

Now, on the weekend, Edward had called her, out of the blue on the full moon, while in the scenting out phase and demanded to know where she was. Not something he’d ever done before either. If she didn’t turn up, he just sent Chester to speak with her the following work day. Or whenever she returned to the office.

But he had stated he would send his plane to get her on the weekend. This was also the first time he’d told her he’d retrieve her. She was now just coming to understand that Edward, putting Jared in charge of bringing her in. He was trying to get Jared to know who she was or for her to know Jared. Wynta huffed as she put her handbag on the table in the corner.

Edward just needed to let go of that idea. She knew Jared wasn’t about to take a Chosen Mate. If he was, he’d have done it by now. She also wasn’t interested in having another arrogant Alpha for a second mate. No thank you. She stripped off and stepped into the shower to let the hot water try and sooth her.

She got out and dried off, slipped into her bathrobe as she did every night, then she stood and thought about what she wanted to do for dinner. She opted for something simple. She wasn’t all that hungry, and just made eggs on toast and a cup of tea.

She reclined in her bed to read but couldn’t really focus upon the book in front of her with all that she had going around inside her mind, and that door code was now bugging her completely, so she sent a text to Edward ‘How do I change the door code?’

It took some time for him to get back to her, likely having dinner or on his way back to the pack, but after an hour had passed, she wondered if he was going to decline answering her. He probably thought it was funny, ‘I don’t know, you’d have to ask Jared, he’s the one that had the lock changed and set the code.’

She stared at the text in shock for a moment, and then just glared at the message and muttered, “Of course he bloody did.” But then something else occurred to her as she sat there. If it was Jared who’d organized and done this, then that meant that Jared had the code to her apartment. That man could let himself in anytime he liked to as he liked to state, punish her. Something he’d told her in his office just today, that he’d come by and punish her properly, now he bloody could.

He didn’t even need to pick the lock, or ring the doorbell, he had the access code. She’d noted the door lock did make a soft chime as it unlocked, but she didn’t know if that would be loud enough for her to hear and wake up to if she was asleep. Goddess, he could just walk in, and she’d wake up to his face between her thighs and she had a feeling that was exactly why he’d done it.

She wouldn’t put it past him at all to just do that, wake her up in the so-called nice way. A part of her squirmed a little at the thought because she’d bloody enjoyed it, every damned second of him eating her out, even in his office as shocked as she’d been by his actions.

She’d not stopped him or told him no. A part of her had bloody liked it, how dominant and in control he’d been. She sighed to herself she was in trouble where Jared was concerned, because less than thirty seconds, and she’d stopped fighting against him.

She nearly tossed her phone, but held on to it and took a deep breath in and then text Jared himself after thinking about what to text him, and a small smile played on her lips as she texted, ‘Those numbers for the front door code mean absolutely nothing to me. I’ll never remember them. How do I change the code to something I’ll remember?’

Then she sat and waited, wondering if he understood she’d figured out what those numbers read in words, and just wanted to change it, so it wasn’t his name, or if she hadn’t and honestly didn’t think she’d be able to recall them.

‘I’d have to come over and do that for you.’ Jared sent right back. ‘When suits you?’ a simple enough text, as hers had been, but she groaned into the room and did toss her phone this time, though only onto the bed next to her. It was actually a really nice phone and unfolding it to read off the large screen was really nice. Less strain on her eyes.

She knew he understood her words, and the meaning behind it, and that he was now just tormenting her, trying to get her to tell him to come over. Well, she wasn’t going to play that game. ‘Never mind, I’ll call a locksmith tomorrow.’ She sent after several long minutes.

‘You don’t need that, it’s a smart lock. I’ve got the app on my phone. I just need to be within range of it. When suits you? I’ll be free any time after nine.’

‘Just send me the app. I’ll do it myself, she replied.

‘You’ll still need me, Wynta, for the activation password.’

‘I do not, just send me the password for the app.’ She glared at her phone, because she knew he wasn’t going to do it.
