But then I glanced at Kai.
And my blood froze.
She was livid.
Face tight, eyes flashing like lightning about to strike, jaw locked with fury so sharp it could slice through steel.
She looked ready to kill someone.
Leo didn’t notice. Or maybe he just didn’t care.
But I saw it.
And fuck, something twisted in my chest at the sight of her pissed off over that. Over him saying we could have girls in our bed. Over the implication of sex and lust.
Possessiveness.
Jealousy.
From her.
It hit me like a goddamn freight train.
She wasn’t the only one driving me insane in this bond. She was feeling it too.
And Moon help me, I wanted to kiss her.
I wanted to grab her face, press my mouth against hers, and promise her that no other girl had ever mattered – would ever matter.
Only her.
Only my mate.
But I couldn’t. Not here. Not now. Not while my wolf was clawing under my skin so hard my hands started to shake.
I looked down.
My claws had punctured my palms.
Blood welled between my fingers.
I closed my fists tighter.
Control. Control.
Then Alpha Leo turned his attention to her like this was just a normal evening chat.
“Hey, Savage,” he called, voice light, friendly. “You feel like sparring a bit? Was thinking about those jujitsu and sand? moves you pulled off this morning. Wanna give them a go, one-on-one?”
I nearly growled aloud.
He was walking toward her now, completely oblivious to the murder in her eyes or the fact that both Dalton and I were one wrong move away from tearing his throat out.
Kai stood up slowly, eyes still locked on him like he’d insulted her ancestors.
“Sure,” she said, her voice calm but sharp-edged.
I could feel the storm brewing in her. The kind of storm that didn’t just destroy cities – it leveled empires.
Leo grinned like he’d just won a raffle. “Perfect. Let’s see if I can still take a hit without crying like a pup.”
She gave a thin smile.
Dalton caught my eye and mouthed he’s dead.
Yeah.
He didn’t even know how dead he was.
Because that wasn’t just a pissed-off Alpha female agreeing to a friendly spar.
That was a mated female who’d just had to hear a grown-ass man talk about how her mates could fuck a different girl every night.
And Alpha Leo?
He’d just signed up for his own funeral match.
I sat back on the bench and watched her step into the ring with him, every cell in my body vibrating with unspent rage and lust and something even darker.
She wasn’t just mine.
She knew she was mine.
–
And anyone dumb enough to ignore that – well.
He was about to find out just how far we’d all go to protect what’s ours.
DALTON POV
I used to think Alpha Leo was a decent guy.
A nice professor. One of the few adults around here who didn’t try to prove he still had a d**k by lording it over the rest of us. A man with a mission, who’d walked away from his pack politics to find peace, purpose, discipline.
Guess I was wrong.
Because after tonight, he just earned a place right at the top of my fucking shit list.
And when I get pissed, I don’t throw punches.
I build systems.
I rewrite realities.
I was going to make his life a slow-burn digital nightmare. First step? Hack into his Pack Council profile and flag his clearances for “retraining protocol violations”-instant red tape hell. Then clone his phone, reroute his cloud backups, wipe his passwords from every synced device he owns and replace them with quotes from children’s cartoons. The next time he opened his laptop, he’d be greeted by “You got a friend in me” in 1080p and full volume. Every. Single. Time.
And that would just be day one.
Day two? I’d leak fake screenshots of him asking to join an adult fencing class. In cosplay. And send a bottle of pink glitter lube to his office with no return address. Maybe subscribe him to a weekly garlic-scented pheromone cologne box. Alpha attraction, apparently. Or I could reprogram the gym’s biometric scanner to reject his fingerprints and send out a system-wide alert calling him “Unauthorized Beta Intruder.”
Petty? Yes. Disturbing? Definitely. But effective? You bet your ass.
Nobody touched my mate and walked away with their dignity intact. Not anymore.
The gym had been quiet. Empty, save for the three of us. Derrick, Kai, and I. We were supposed to be cooling down, maybe heading to the showers. I wasn’t ready to let go of the sight of her yet. Sweat gleaming on her collarbones. That tank top sticking to her body like sin itself. Her jaw tight from focus.
I could watch her forever.
Then he came in.
And just ruined everything. Talking shit and then asking her to spar. How wrong is it for a combat alpha trainer to ask a newbie to spar?!
Shade wanted his head, and I was going to let him have it. But my mate couldn’t just stay still.
She turned slowly.
A queen rising.
She gave a calm nod. “Sure, Alpha.”
And I knew Derrick wanted to scream as much as I did. Stop her. Slaughter him.
I could feel it in Derrick too. The tension crawling through his skin, his fists clenching and unclenching.
But she walked into the ring like it was hers.
And he followed.
They circled each other.
Leo with that MMA stance, heavy-footed and grounded. Using his size. Power. Force.
Kai was smaller. Leaner. But fuck, she moved like smoke and fire combined. Her jujitsu flowed with that sand? edge, rapid pivots, explosive sweeps, wrist locks and hip throws that looked like water bending steel.
The first exchange was lightning. She dropped under his swing, caught his wrist, tried for a takedown. He blocked. Fast. Strong.
Then he landed a punch.
It connected.
Right in her ribs.
My vision went red.
Derrick hissed. “What the fuck is wrong with him?”
