“Zillion Club doesn’t support cheaters. You over there, how dare you kiss someone else’s mate?”
The entire venue immediately fell silent, and murmurs from the crowd filled the air.
“Why is she here?” “Why do they look so much alike?” “Who’s the real Selene here?”
Hearing people murmur these things, I realized no one knew I was Leo’s Luna and wife. Zoey immediately revealed my identity, determined to embarrass the cheater who had kissed my husband, but I was more concerned with knowing the truth-why did the other woman and I look so much alike?
I thought Leo would have at least a little human sympathy for cheating, but I was shocked when he ordered the DJ to continue playing and told everyone to go back to dancing. Funny, huh? I was furious. I could feel smoke coming out of my head as I knew I deserved an explanation for what had just happened. I could still hear the murmurs of people gossiping about the scene.
In my state of anger and anxiety, the woman walked toward me and extended her hand for a handshake.
“Hi, you’re Selene, right?” she said.
I didn’t reply or take her hand. I simply stared at her, wondering what was going on in her mind. She must be happy Leo had kissed her earlier.
“It’s all a silly misunderstanding. Maybe your husband thought I was you and just rushed to me before I could say a word.”
That was impossible. Leo knew that breaking the mate bond between us would leave me weak and in pain throughout the night. He knew I wouldn’t be able to-
…move for a long time, so how could he mistake another woman for me? Although we looked very much alike, there were still many differences between us apart from the marks and the facial resemblance-and that was the fact that I still bore Leo’s mark on my neck.
The mark was expected to fade away three days after the mate bond was broken.
“I hope you don’t take this silly mistake and joke as the truth.”
Zoey came to my rescue and pushed the woman away from me.
“Get away from her, you slut! How dare you foolishly lie to her face?”
“Fine, we’re just best friends, okay?”
She scoffed loudly. “There’s everything wrong with kissing your best friend. Are you really that cheap of a slut?” Zoey yelled back.
I could see the rage in the woman’s eyes, and I had to speak up before she could hit Zoey.
“That’s enough. If anyone should explain what happened here, it should be my husband,” I said.
“Excuse me, ma’am, is something wrong? Please come have a look,” a waiter interrupted Zoey in the middle of our argument.
Zoey wanted to shoo him away, but I stopped her and asked her to leave.
“I’ll handle things from here. Thank you, Zoey.”
She held my hand. “You sure?” I shook my head.
With Zoey gone, I guessed the woman saw a better chance to intimidate me further. She came close to me again.
“Like I said, Leo and I were childhood friends. But I couldn’t believe he married an Omega when he told me. Now that you’re standing here with me, I guess I understand why he married you.”
I understood she meant it was because we looked alike. She kept one hand on her hip and continued to stare at me.
“You really need to do more than this if you want to keep your husband to yourself, Selene. If you’re a Luna, then you need to act like one.”
My anger nearly peaked as she spoke, and my fingers itched badly to slap her hard across the face. My eyes grew cold with fury, and I watched her step backward until she was close enough to Leo.
“You don’t have to stare at me like you’re going to strangle me. I’m sorry if my words offended you, Selene.”
For some reason, Leo didn’t seem to detect her malice. To him, it seemed like I was bullying her. She hid behind him but gave me a malicious smile in return.
“I told you before, Selene, I want a divorce. The papers will be ready today, and once it’s signed, you should get the hell out of my life. Whatever I do with my life from now on is no longer any of your business. Remember, I already rejected you, Selene.”
I had always been meek and subservient.
“If you have any issues with the prenuptial, you can discuss it with me later and we’ll come to a decision. A scheming, malicious, and despicable woman like you does not deserve to be my Luna.”
The words were like barbed wire, tearing at my heart with every syllable as tears rolled down my cheeks. I was publicly humiliated by my husband, and all I could do was stand there hearing the crowd tell the real story that I had never known.
It appeared that Leo and Scarlett had grown up together as childhood friends. However, when she reached adulthood, she left him and married another powerful Alpha who was her mate. This left Leo heartbroken for days until he found me three years ago at a party. Because I was his mate and looked so much like the woman he loved from his childhood, he married me immediately to forget about her.
I also came to understand that this was the reason Leo was always reluctant to introduce me to anyone in the pack.
“Why? Why are you doing this to me, Leo? I’ve done absolutely nothing to deserve this. I’ve always been a good wife to you, Leo, so why?”
“Because the real woman I love is back. Scarlett here is my mate, and she’s the Luna I want.”
Those words shattered my very soul. He held her hand tightly, making my stomach churn with irritation as I stared at both of them.
My wolf, Lena, was so furious that I almost rushed at Scarlett and yanked her hair.
“You bitch! How dare you try to destroy my home!” I yelled loudly and rushed toward her, but the moment I grabbed her hair, she fell to the floor and passed out immediately.
“Are you crazy!” I heard Leo’s cold voice, which scared me.
Leo squatted down and carried her in his arms, staring at me with cold eyes.
“Leo, Leo, please, I’m begging you, don’t leave me, please.”
Suddenly, I felt a sharp and unsettling pain in my stomach and fell to the floor, holding his left leg.
