Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 13 – His Replica Mate

“Uhmm…” I trailed off, trying to think of what to say. That’s the thing with kids-they hear everything, and they’re not afraid to call you out.

“His name is Leo. He’s the Alpha of this pack. Remember I explained to you and your siblings what an Alpha is?” I reminded him.

“Yes, I remember. But why did you tell him we were four years old? We’re five, not four, Mummy,” he said, trying to give me a stern look-but he just ended up looking so cute.

“I’m sorry, baby. I must’ve misspoken. Next time I talk to him, I’ll make sure to correct it, alright?” I told him. He smiled and nodded his head.

Thank goodness-the crisis was averted.

I took Luke out of his car seat while Zoey carried Karla. I was just relieved that it was Liam who woke up and not Luke-Luke would not have been satisfied with the answer I gave.

Since my hands were full with Luke, I handed Liam the keys and he opened the door to the cabin. I still couldn’t believe this was where we’d be staying. The cabin belonged to Leo’s family and had been passed down to him.

Liam opened the door, and we walked in. It looked different and familiar at the same time. Some things had been upgraded and changed, and it looked like they’d added a fresh coat of paint.

I hadn’t mentioned the kids in the email, but I knew this house had four bedrooms.

We walked upstairs, and I pushed open the door closest to the master bedroom. There was a huge queen-sized bed the kids would have no problem fitting in-they were still so little.

I laid Luke down on the bed, and Zoey did the same with Karla. I looked over at Liam, and he was clearly fighting sleep.

“Hey sweetie, do you want to get in here with your brother and sister?” I asked him.

He nodded, and I carried him over, laying him down in the middle of the two.

“Sleep well, my love,” I said, kissing his forehead. He closed his eyes.

Since it was a new house and a new bed, Zoey and I surrounded them with pillows so they wouldn’t roll off during the night. Once we were done, we headed back to the car to grab our suitcases and bags and brought them into the living room.

“I’m tired and hungry. We should’ve gotten takeout,” Zoey told me.

“Yeah, I know. Let’s check the kitchen. Hopefully, there’s something in there-if not, we’ll be in huge trouble once the kids wake up,” I replied.

The way her eyes bulged out made me laugh.

“Why do you look like that?” I asked her.

“I love those kids like they’re mine, but once they’re hungry, they become really, really mean,” she said, and I burst out laughing-not because she was wrong, but because of how she described it.

“Yeah, I know,” I said, and then we headed to the kitchen.

I opened the fridge first, and it was completely stocked-drinks, meat, vegetables-everything we could possibly need.

Zoey came to stand beside me.

“Oh, thank God,” she said, then moved to check the cabinets. Each one was fully stocked.

“So Leo can get something right. What are we doing for lunch?” Zoey asked.

“How about some sandwiches? We have everything we need, and it’ll be quick. We can make the kids’ sandwiches and keep them in the fridge for when they wake up,” I suggested.

“Alright, that sounds like a plan,” she said.

We brought out everything we needed and set it up on the table. The kids’ tastes were simple-they liked either peanut butter and jelly or grilled cheese. For me and Zoey, we made simple club sandwiches.

“So, how are you feeling?” Zoey asked.

“I don’t know. I always thought that when I saw him again, all the hurt and pain would come back. But I didn’t feel any of that. It’s not like I feel numb toward him-it’s more like he’s just a guy I used to know,” I said.

“That’s understandable. But remember, he’s not just a guy you used to know. He’s also the same guy who rejected you and your kids. Don’t forget that,” Zoey reminded me. I didn’t even know if it was possible, but I was starting to think Zoey hated Leo more than I did.

“Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten. I’m here to do a job, and I doubt Leo will have time for me anyway. He has Scarlett to keep him busy,” I said.

She hissed. “You know, I had forgotten about that bitch. Are you sure I shouldn’t follow you when you go to your lab?” she asked, and I couldn’t help but smile.

Zoey was like a mama bear-soft and cuddly to the ones she loved, but if anyone tried to hurt them, she wasn’t afraid to show her claws.

“I’ll be fine, Zoey. Besides, you need to stay here with the kids. I don’t know what this disease is, and until I do, I want them as far away from the pack as possible. It’s a good thing we’re far out,” I told her.

“I didn’t even think about that. You’re right. But what about you? What if it affects you?” she asked.

“It won’t,” I reassured her.

“How sure are you?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Like ninety percent. I’ll be fine, Zoey. I’ll take all the precautions,” I told her.

“Okay, if you say so,” she replied, and we continued making the sandwiches in comfortable silence.

But then, the silence was broken by an earsplitting scream.

“Mummy!!!” Karla screamed.

-Alpha Leo’s POV-

It took everything in me not to go over to the cabin last night and demand answers from Lena. Zeo was right-I couldn’t do anything to sabotage this. Lena was our last chance. But what if the triplets were mine? What if I was their father?

I went down a rabbit hole last night. Scarlett came home drunk again and tried to start a fight. I regret to say that, even though I saw it coming, I fell into her trap. We had a huge fight, and I left the room, spending the entire day in my home office because I couldn’t sleep. And it wasn’t because of the fight with Scarlett. No, she wasn’t the woman on my mind.
