“My sweet, beautiful baby, soon you’ll come and join me and your father. Now, we may not have much, but we have enough, and we are content. I can’t wait to meet you, my sweet one,” Alana Avery spoke softly to the baby in her belly.
On the other side, Kate Windsor was not having a good pregnancy experience, thanks to her husband, the Alpha.
“I’m telling you, Kate, you’ve disappointed me more than enough times. You’re a woman, and you have only one job: get pregnant and give me an heir. But you can’t even do that right. You’ve managed to carry this baby to term, but you better hope and pray that baby is an Alpha. If not…” Alpha Windsor trails off as he paces back and forth in the room.
“Just know, if that baby isn’t born an Alpha, the both of you better be gone before I get here,” Alpha Windsor said coldly, then stormed out of the room.
Kate lay on the bed, utterly terrified. For years, her husband had threatened her, but now that she was so close to giving birth, the threats had grown more intense, and Kate knew he was serious. She was scared for her life and for the life of her unborn child.
“Please, goddess, if you can hear me, I’m begging you, please let my child be born an Alpha,” Kate prayed as tears streamed down her face.
That same night, both women went into labor. There was a huge storm and a blood moon, a rare occurrence. Because of the storm, only one midwife was available in town, and both women were now in her office, in two different rooms.
The men were not allowed in the delivery rooms; they sat anxiously in the waiting room. Alpha Windsor couldn’t sit still, pacing back and forth, while Mr. Avery sat quietly, praying to the goddess that his wife and baby would be alright.
The women labored for hours, and through all this, the rain didn’t let up. It even intensified, and the blood moon was high in the sky. The midwife had heard different stories about the blood moon, and she knew that these babies were going to be special.
Finally, Alana gave birth first. She was so exhausted from the delivery that she passed out, and the midwife checked the baby, cleaned her up, and swaddled her in a blanket. She placed the baby in the crib next to her mother’s bed. She was about to go and inform Alana’s husband when one of her trainees informed her that Kate was fully dilated and ready to push.
So the midwife told the trainee to stay with Alana’s baby and then went to attend to Kate. About twenty minutes later, Kate’s baby was born.
“It’s a girl,” the midwife told her.
“What is she? Please tell me, what is she?” Kate asked the midwife.
“She’s an omega, Luna Windsor,” the midwife informed her.
Tears ran down Kate’s face, both from the pain of childbirth and from the fear of what her husband would do. Despite the pain, she sat up and leaned back against the head of the bed.
“Mrs. Windsor, you need to rest,” the midwife told her.
“No, I can’t. Please, you need to help me,” Kate pleaded.
“With what?” the midwife asked.
“The other woman, the one who came in with me today, has she given birth?” Kate asked.
The midwife found the question strange but answered her anyway. “Yes, she had a baby girl,” the midwife said.
“What is she?” Kate asked.
“She’s an Alpha. Is the other woman a friend of yours?” the midwife asked, confused as to why Kate was asking so many questions.
“No, I don’t know her. I need you to do something for me. I’ll give you anything you want: money, land, anything; just ask for it, and it will be yours,” Kate said.
The midwife was intrigued. She knew the Windsors were extremely wealthy. “What would you like me to do?” she asked.
“My husband cannot know that our child is an omega. I need you to switch the babies,” Kate said, and the midwife gasped in shock.
“Luna Kate, I can’t do that,” the midwife said to her.
“Yes, you can. I could order you to do this, but instead, I’m begging you, and I will compensate you with whatever it is you need. Please, he’s going to kill me and the baby, please, you need to help me,” Kate pleaded with the midwife.
The midwife thought about it, and then she decided to help Kate. But before she left to switch the babies, Kate used a scalpel to give her baby a mark on her hand. The baby cried out in pain as Kate wiped off the blood. The midwife then went into Alana’s room, and fortunately, she was still sleeping. She quickly switched the babies.
The two families went home that night, unaware of what had transpired. The only two people who knew were Kate and the midwife. But what they didn’t know was that those two children were truly special; they were doppelgangers, and as they switched them, they also switched their destinies.
The Windsors returned home, and the Alpha was overjoyed. He threw a grand celebration to mark the occasion. They named their daughter Scarlett, while the Averys named their daughter Selene.
-Alpha Leo’s pov-
“Am I wrong, Leo?” She asked me, and I had no words because she was right.
I did choose Scarlett, and if Lena hadn’t turned out to be the doctor, I truly don’t know if I would’ve sought her out to apologize.
“You’re right, I did choose Scarlett, and at that moment, all I thought about was myself and how happy I was that she was back in my life; nothing else mattered; you didn’t matter. But time passed, and I realized how cruel I was because you didn’t deserve to be treated like that, and the truth is I didn’t bother to find you because I was a coward; I didn’t know how you would react. But when I say I am sorry, I mean it, Lena; I’m so sorry for what I did to you, for rejecting you that way and for the loss of the baby.” I told her, hoping she could see how sincere I was.
She didn’t say anything for a while, just staring at me. “Thank you.” She finally said, then continued walking, which I took to mean she didn’t want to talk about the subject anymore. As much as I wanted to, I knew I needed to leave it.
She has her fiance and her kids, and I’m married to Scarlett; just because my marriage is miserable and I made a wrong choice doesn’t give me the right to go back to her.
We walked back to the lab in comfortable silence, neither of us saying anything. There was a black Camry parked in front of the building. “Well, it looks like my lab assistant is here,” she told me.
“Yes, it looks like it,” I said, knowing I needed to let her get to work, but for some reason, I couldn’t bring myself to leave.
“So, I’m going to go and start working,” she said.
“Yes, yes, of course, I’ll leave you be, but if you need anything, please don’t hesitate to tell me,” I told her.
“Of course,” she said and offered me a little smile, then turned around and entered the lab.
I stood outside, just staring at the building for a few moments before I finally got myself to turn around and walk away. As I walked back to my house, I said a prayer, hoping Scarlett wasn’t back and that, if she was, she wasn’t in a bad mood.
I got to the house, and it was all quiet. I did hear a heartbeat coming from my office, but I recognized it; it was Zed’s and not Scarlett’s.
I open the door and enter my office. Zeo is at his desk, busy on his computer.
“You’re back, how did it go?” he asked me. I sat down in my chair and let out a huge sigh.
