Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 25 – His Replica Mate

“Did you also like Alpha Leo?” I ask Luke as we both walk into the house.

“Yeah, I did,” he replies, but I can tell he still has more on his mind.

“But there’s more, isn’t there?” I ask, and he nods his head.

I squat down so I’m at the same height as him. “I figured you would have some questions, so how about this: you go upstairs and wash up with your brother and sister, then have your dinner, and while Liam and Karla are with Aunt Zoey, you and I can talk. How does that sound?” I ask him.

“That sounds good, Mum. I like that,” he says, then offers me one of his rare smiles before running up the stairs to join his siblings in the bathroom.

I busy myself heating up the food and serving it for the kids so it can cool down a little before they come down. About five minutes later, I hear the sound of their…

I hear little feet running down the stairs, and a few moments later, they all appear in the kitchen with Zoey behind them.

“Hmmm, beef stew,” Liam says as he rubs his tummy like an old man.

“That’s right, beef stew. You guys tell Aunt Zoey thank you for making it for you,” I tell them, and they all hug Zoey at the same time, telling her thank you.

“Mummy, can we eat in front of the TV?” Liam asks me.

I think about it, and my first instinct is to say no, but this could also allow me to talk to Luke without them noticing.

“Yes, you can, but only for today. Is that clear? This isn’t going to become an everyday occurrence,” I tell them.

They grab their plates and head to the living room, but Luke stays behind.

“I need to talk to Luke. We’ll join you guys soon,” I tell Zoey, and she nods in understanding. I’m sure the kids must’ve told her about our walk with Leo while she was giving them their baths.

Luke takes a seat on one of the bar stools, and I sit on the one next to him.

“So, sweetie, I take it you have some questions?” I ask him.

“I have a lot of questions, but they really all depend on your answer to one question,” he tells me.

I’m pretty sure I know what the question is. “Okay, ask away. I promise to answer them as honestly as I can,” I tell him.

“You always tell us that our dad is far away but that he loves us, so I was just wondering-is Alpha Leo our father?” he asks me.

There’s no point in lying to him. He’s too smart for it. “Yes, Alpha Leo is your father,” I tell him.

“I knew it. The moment I saw him, I felt it. But why isn’t he with us?” he asks.

This is where I’m stumped. I don’t know what to tell him because I don’t want to break his little fragile heart by telling him his father rejected him and his siblings’ entire existence right from the womb. I can’t do that to him.

“You know, there’s a difference between a father and a dad. A father makes you, and a dad raises you. Your father loves you and your siblings; that is the truth. But he is the Alpha, and he has a lot of people to take care of, a lot of people relying on him. So, he doesn’t have the time to be a dad just yet. Do you understand what I’m trying to say?” I ask him.

“I think so, but that’s why you’re here, right? You’re going to help him find a cure, and then we can all be a family, can’t we?” Luke asks me with so much hope in his voice.

“Luke, I don’t want to get your hopes up, sweetie. You know not every family looks the same or is the same, right?” I ask him, and he nods his head.

“Okay, good. Now, your father and I might not be together, but from today, I’m pretty sure he wants to be in your lives. But I need you to do something for me. Don’t tell your brother or your sister just yet. I don’t want them to get hurt if things don’t work out,” I tell him.

“I understand, Mum,” he says with a smile on his face.

I rub my hand on his cheek. “You’re such a good boy. Now go and have your dinner with your siblings,” I tell him, and he takes his plate and goes to the living room.

Well, that went way better than I had hoped.

Alpha Leo’s POV.

I get back home, and from what I can hear, Scarlett isn’t here, which fills me with a sense of relief rather than worry. I’ve been in denial for a very long time-maybe it was because I’ve loved her since I knew what love meant. But now, it’s like the covers have been removed from my eyes. When she left me the first time to marry someone else, I should’ve let her go then, but I didn’t. I still loved her, which was why, when she came back, I took her back with no questions asked.

But that right there was the biggest mistake of my life. There’s a saying that goes, “When someone shows you who they are, believe them.” Scarlett showed me the type of person she was when she left me, and I should’ve believed her. If I had, my life would’ve been completely different. Lena and I would still be together, and we would be raising our kids together.

But here I am, married and miserable, without kids and a pack that is being decimated by some mysterious disease.

I walk into my office, probably to reply to some emails because there’s no way I’m going to sleep with my mind all over the place like this.

“I take it you also couldn’t sleep?” I ask Zeo, who’s behind his desk, and he has a smirk on his face.

“Something like that,” he tells me.

“I know what’s keeping me up, so what exactly is keeping you up?” I ask as I sit down.

“You mean apart from the fact that our pack is about to be wiped out by a mysterious disease?” he asks, still wearing that damn smirk.

“Yeah, apart from that,” I tell him.

He just laughs. “I met someone,” he says.

I scoff and laugh. “Which one is it this time? A blonde? No, it must be a redhead for her to have caught your eye,” I tell him, thinking he’s about to tell me about one of his conquests. But he isn’t laughing; he has a very serious look on his face.

“Wait a minute. You’re not talking about one of your conquests, are you?” I ask him.

“No, I’m not,” he tells me.

“Really? Who is she? Do I know her?” I asked him.

“Something like that,” he says, trying to be mysterious.
