Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 50 – His Replica Mate

“Of course,” he says, and he starts to leave. But when he reaches the door, he turns around and looks at me.

“You look really good, Lena,” he says, then walks out and closes the door behind him. I let out a breath.

When he looked at me, the way he looked at me, no one else has ever looked at me that way before. It stirred something in me, like it always does. And that’s a problem. I can’t keep getting caught in situations like that with him; it will just lead to me getting hurt.

I quickly dry off and change into some shorts and a top, making sure to put on a bra. I leave my hair to air dry-I’m lucky enough that it doesn’t get frizzy as long as I use my products. I put on some lip gloss and mascara, and I’m ready to go.

I plug in my phone and laptop, then leave the room to join Freya and Leo in the kitchen.

“You look good, Lena. How was your shower?” Freya asks me.

“Very much needed, thank you for laying out the towels for me,” I tell her.

“Well, of course, you’re a guest here,” she replies.

“You didn’t lay out towels for me,” Leo complains.

“Well, dear brother, that’s because you’re not a guest here. If you want towels, you know where they are,” Freya tells him, and he just groans.

“Oh, Zoey is so going to love you,” I say.

“Why do you say that?” she asks.

“Because you both love getting under Leo’s skin,” I reply.

“But there’s a difference. Freya does it out of love, and Zoey just flat-out hates me,” Leo says.

“That is true,” I tell him, and I can’t help but smile.

“Well, I can’t wait to meet her and the kids,” Freya says.

“Have you talked to Zeo?” I turn around and ask Leo.

“Yes, everything is good at the pack. No disturbances or anything, and at the clinic, everyone is stable. He also seemed really happy about spending more time with Zoey. I bet she hated it when you told her,” he tells me.

“She understood, but yes, she wasn’t thrilled that she had to spend more time with Zeo. But in a way, it’s also good for them,” I reply.

“Yes, it is. That is, if they manage not to kill each other,” he says.

“Sorry, I’m confused. Zoey hates Zeo too?” Freya asks us.

“Yeah, Zoey hates anyone who has any relationship with Leo, and now fate has played a very funny joke by making her mates with Zeo,” I explain, and she starts laughing.

“Please tell me you’re joking?” she asks.

“No, I wish it was a joke. And the kicker is that Zoey is human, and it also doesn’t help that she comes from a family that has bad blood with werewolves, so the whole thing is just a mess. But we’re hoping they’ll figure it out,” I explain.

“Wow, that really is a mess, but I’m sure everything will work out in the end,” she says.

“Yeah, I hope so too. I have to say, this all smells amazing, Freya,” I tell her.

“Thank you. I’ve always loved cooking, and the cuisines have seriously improved since I woke up. I can’t keep up because someone is coming up with something new every day,” she says.

“That’s true. I’m more of a baker than a chef. Zoey is the cook in the family,” I tell her.

“Well, another thing we have in common,” she says.

“Yes, it is.”

Lena’s POV

After lunch, I went to my room to get some rest before we had to leave. I left Leo and Freya alone-they’ve been apart for six years, so I’m sure they have a lot to talk about.

Try as I might, I wasn’t able to sleep. I just kept tossing and turning in bed. My mind couldn’t quiet down, and as much as I didn’t want to think about it, I kept going back to what Freya said about her vision.

I’d like to believe that I’ve forgiven Leo, but the truth is, that whole situation isn’t so easy to forget. Even though I want nothing more than to forget and move on, I can’t.

So, Freya saw a vision of me and Leo together with our kids, but in her vision, he called me Selene. I guess Leo picking Scarlett over me kind of screwed the whole thing up. I don’t know what kind of hold that woman has on him, or it might just be that he really loves her. He knew there was a chance that she couldn’t be the woman in the vision, but he still took that chance and chose her instead of me.

I’m not going to lie, finding that out after all these years… it hurts. It hurts a lot.

Since I couldn’t sleep, I opened up my laptop and went through the reports that Emmett sent over. Everyone at the clinic is still stable, thank the goddess, so even if they’re still sick, at least they’re not getting worse. He’s been able to identify some of the unknown elements and is still working on the rest.

I went through the pictures he sent and the names of the elements and substances he was able to identify, and I was shocked. Some of these ingredients are rare-extremely rare, so rare that they can only be found in one place in the whole world. So how exactly did the person behind all this get their hands on such rare substances?

I continued going through everything and started doing my own research, taking notes. I didn’t even realize how much time had passed until I heard a knock on my door.

“Come in,” I said.

The door opened, and it was Leo. “Hey, Freya said to tell you that we’ll be leaving in twenty minutes,” he told me.

“Oh, no problem. I must have lost track of time,” I replied, and he looked at me, noticing all the notes and papers scattered around me.

“Yeah, it looks like it. What were you up to?” he asked.

“I don’t know yet, actually. I’ll explain when we get back. Tell Freya that I’ll be out soon,” I tell him.

“Cute glasses. You should wear them more,” he says before leaving the room and closing the door behind him.
