Chapter 54 – His Replica Mate

“How does your brother, who has always gotten himself into trouble and owes a lot of debt, go from that to becoming an investor in a club? How did he come into that kind of money?” Freya asked. It was clear she already knew the answer. I mean, we all did, but we were just waiting for Anna to realize it too.

“No, he wouldn’t,” Anna said, as it seemed she had put it together herself.

“Yes, he would. Desperate people do desperate things. Is it possible that he could’ve gotten into the safe, Anna?” Freya asked.

Anna let out a defeated sigh. “Yes, the spell on the safe was a blood lock. Only someone in my bloodline could open it. Vincent, I’m so sorry. I had no idea. I didn’t suspect him at all. If I did, I would’ve reported it immediately. You know that,” she tells Vincent, tears rolling down her face.

“I know, Anna. I gave you that grimoire because I trusted you. This isn’t your fault,” Vincent says, but he looks pissed.

“Where is your brother now, Anna?” Freya asks.

“He should be at the club by now. The name is The Vault. They’re not open yet, but he should be there setting up,” Anna says.

“Thank you, Anna. You’ve been so helpful,” Freya tells her, then turns to Vincent.

“I take it you know where this club is?” she asks.

“Yes, I do,” Vincent answers.

“Okay, then we need to leave now and find out what he did with those pages,” Freya says.

“Wait a minute, we can’t just go in there by ourselves,” Leo says.

“Why not?” Freya asks.

“Well, if I were him and I saw the leader of my faction and the strongest witch to ever walk the planet coming for me, I’d immediately know I’ve been found out and high-tail it out of there,” Leo explains.

“So what do we do?” Freya asks.

“Anna needs to come with us, that’s the only way.”

Alpha Leo’s POV

“No, I can’t do that. He’ll be able to tell that something is wrong,” Anna says. I get up from my seat and squat in front of her so we’re facing each other.

“I’m going to tell you something. Those pages that your brother ripped from the grimoire and probably sold to the wrong person-one of those spells has been used on my pack, and now everyone is getting sick and dying, including children. Children who haven’t even had the chance to live. So we need to get to your brother and find out who he sold it to. I know you’re a good person, Anna. You never meant for any of this to happen. So I’m asking you to pull yourself together, just long enough for us to get to your brother. Can you do that for me?” I ask her.

“Yes, yes, I can,” she says, wiping the tears from her face. I get up.

“Good. Then I guess we should be leaving,” I tell everyone. I look at Vincent, and he has this pissed-off look on his face ever since he found out about Anna’s brother. I get it-he’s their leader, whether he likes it or not, all of this falls on him.

“We can’t just leave the grimoires here, can we?” Lena asks.

“No, we can’t. For now, Vincent, can we keep them in your safe? After we’re done with Anna’s brother, you and I are going to have a talk about what we’re going to do with them,” Freya tells Vincent. He doesn’t look happy about it, but he knows he’s messed up.

He takes all three grimoires, puts them in his safe, and locks it. “Okay, we can go now,” Vincent says, and we all leave his office.

Thankfully, we took the SUV, so Vincent and Anna were able to ride with us. We came up with a plan during the drive. We all agreed that we needed to get Dylan-Anna’s brother-out of the club so we could question him.

The plan was for Anna, Lena, and I to go into the club while Vincent and Freya waited in the car. Anna would tell her brother that Lena and I were from out of town and were looking to invest in his club. Then we’d ask him to come with us to the coffee shop on the other side of the street, where it was quiet and we could talk.

But if, for some reason, that doesn’t work and he suspects something is wrong, Freya gave us a powder that would knock him out. I’d then carry him out of there.

We’re currently parked near the entrance to the club. “Are you ready for this, Anna?” I turn around and ask her.

“Yes, I am. I’m good,” she says, her voice steady, with no visible signs of distress.

“Yeah, I can see that,” I tell her. Then I turn to Lena. A lot has happened since we got to the city, and I just want to get her alone to make sure she’s alright, but now’s not the time. Even if I don’t like it, what she said is true-we didn’t come here for her, so we have to focus on the reason we’re here.

“You good, Lena?” I ask her.

“Yeah, I’m good, Leo,” she replies.

“Okay, let’s go,” I say, and we open the doors and get out of the car.

“You all be safe,” Freya tells us. I smile at her and nod before closing the door.

The three of us walk side by side. When we get to the entrance, there’s a bouncer, but no line. I guess they’re not open yet, like Anna said.

“Well, if it isn’t little Anna. We haven’t seen you around here since opening night,” he says, smiling at her.

“I’m sorry, Bruce, I’ve just been really busy. But I’ve missed you guys. Is my brother in?” she asks him.

“Yeah, he is. He should be in his office or at the bar taking inventory. I’ll tell you, Anna, this club is the best thing that ever happened to your brother. He’s completely turned around,” Bruce tells her, and she smiles.

“Anyway, you guys go on in,” he says, then pushes open the door for us, and we walk inside.

“Let’s check the bar first. His office is upstairs,” Anna tells us.

We follow her as she leads us through the club and towards the bar. When we get there, there’s a guy behind it, and I have to say, he looks a lot like Anna. He’s like the male version of her, so I take it to mean that’s Dylan.

“Little sis!” he shouts, then heaves himself over the bar and comes over to hug Anna.

“What are you doing here? Why didn’t you tell me you were coming? Not that I’m complaining, this is a very nice surprise,” he says as he lets go of the hug.

“Well, I wanted to surprise you,” she tells him.

“Well, consider me surprised. Who are your friends?” he asks when he finally notices us.
