“Well, that’s also part of the reason I’m here. This is Alpha Leo and his mate, Lena,” she says, making the introductions. He shakes our hands.
“It’s nice to meet you both. What brings you to New Orleans?” he asks.
“Well, you actually, or rather, your club,” I tell him.
“Excuse me?” he asks, looking confused.
“We’re here on vacation, but a little birdie told us about this club and how, in just six months, it’s become the premium place to party in the French Quarter. I wanted to meet the man behind it and see if he was open to investors,” I explain. I see his eyes light up at the mention of investments.
“Yes, we are open to investments,” he says.
“That’s good to hear. Would you mind following us to the coffee shop across the street so we can talk? I take it this place is going to get noisy very soon,” I ask.
“Yes, of course,” he says, as he grabs his coat from one of the bar chairs and puts it on.
“So, how did you guys meet my sister?” he asks us.
“She’s a friend of a friend,” I tell him. He just nods his head and doesn’t question anything further.
We walk out of the club, and Dylan tells Bruce that he’ll be out for a while and to tell the others. We head toward where our car is parked.
“I thought you wanted us to go to the coffee shop?” Dylan asks.
“Yeah, but our car is parked over here,” I reply.
“Oh, that’s no problem. You can just leave it there. The club owns the land,” he says.
The three of us look at each other, and I see the moment his face changes-the moment he starts to suspect that something is wrong.
“What’s going on here, Anna?” he asks his sister. I slowly walk behind him, so he won’t notice.
“Nothing, nothing is going on,” she tells him.
“No, you’re lying. I can tell when you’re lying to me,” he says. The moment I get close to him, I give Lena the signal.
She blows the powder on him, and he staggers back and passes out. But I’m there to catch him.
“Oh my God,” Anna exclaims.
“Quickly, help me get him into the car,” I urge.
Alpha Leo’s POV
Anna looks like she’s in a daze, and Lena has to literally drag her to the car while I throw Dylan over my shoulder and hurry to the car before anyone spots us.
Vincent must’ve seen us coming, because by the time we reach the car, he already has the trunk open, and I lay Dylan inside.
“I take it he didn’t want to come the easy way?” Vincent says.
“Yeah, he didn’t,” I reply, and then we close the trunk.
Freya is in the back with Lena and Anna, both of them trying to calm Anna down.
“What happened back there?” Vincent asks as he drives away from the club. He looks worried-too worried, maybe I’m just seeing things.
“Everything was going according to plan, but then, after we got him out of the club, he got suspicious. Anna isn’t a good liar under pressure, and he could tell she was lying. So, we had to use the powder on him. When he passed out, Anna freaked out. You know, it’s one thing to talk about it, but it’s another to actually do it,” I explain, and he nods, understanding.
“How’s she doing back there?” I ask.
“I’m fine. I’m good. I’m sorry I freaked out back there, but it was all just too much,” Anna replies.
“It’s fine, you did good, Anna,” I tell her.
“So, what happens now?” she asks.
“Now, we take your brother back to the chapel, ask him some questions, and hope that he’s forthcoming with the answers,” Vincent tells her.
“And if he isn’t?” she asks, but he doesn’t answer.
“Just convince him to tell you what happened, and we won’t have to think about that,” I tell her. But if he proves stubborn, I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get some answers out of him.
We get to the chapel and take the back entrance. I carry Dylan to Vincent’s office and dump him in a chair.
“I’m going to need a few minutes. I need to talk to the kids before they go to bed,” Lena tells me before she walks out of the office. It’s only then that I realize how much time has passed-it’s almost nine at night.
“Where is she going?” Freya asks.
“To talk to the kids,” I tell her, and she smiles. I want more than anything to be able to talk to them and wish them a good night, but I can’t do that, and it hurts.
“Alright, he’s starting to wake up,” Vincent says once he’s done tying Dylan to the chair.
His eyes open, and he looks confused as he scans the room. Then he notices that he’s tied to the chair and begins struggling.
“What the fuck! Anna, what is happening? Why am I tied up?” he asks his sister.
“Remember, Anna, just as we discussed. You have to convince him to tell you the truth,” I tell her. She nods and walks toward her brother.
She kneels down in front of him and takes his hands in hers. “Calm down, Dylan. Everything is going to be fine. We just want to ask you some questions, and as long as you’re truthful, we’ll let you go. You’ll go back to the club like nothing happened,” Anna tells him. He nods, looking scared. I don’t know if it’s because we took him or if he knows he’s been caught.
