Chapter 65 – His Replica Mate

We walk to the dining room and take our seats. Zeo is sitting opposite me, not even trying to hide the look of disappointment on his face.

“So, explain yourself. When you guys left, you made it seem like you were just going to ask a witch for help-one that was an acquaintance of yours. That’s the word you used. So, how is she your sister?” Zeo asks.

“Remember when I left the pack for almost a year before my father died?” I ask him.

“Yes, I remember,” he replies.

“You’ll also remember how hard things were for me. My father had these unrealistic expectations, and that was also when Scarlet left me. I just couldn’t take it anymore, so I left and went to New Orleans. The first two months I was there, I regret to say that all I did was party, drink, and get high a lot. I got so high one time that the next day I woke up in the woods, my wallet was gone, and they had left me in just my underwear.

Anyway, the woods they left me in are known for being hunted, but it turns out it wasn’t hunters, per se-it was Freya the whole time, asking for help, but people were too scared.

I don’t know if I was still high or drunk, but I followed her voice, and it led me to a cave. It turns out she had been trapped there for more than a hundred years. I got her out and took her to the apartment where I was staying. For the next six months, I spent my time helping her acclimate to the new world as she knew it. We got really close-she helped me with my problems with my father, and slowly I was getting over Scarlet. But then I got the call that my father was dead, and I had to come back. I had to leave her, but I made sure she was set up.

She has a problem with electronics, so we would send each other a postcard and a letter every month, recounting our adventures from that month. That’s what we did, but then we lost contact six years ago because we had a huge fight. I did something that she didn’t approve of,” I tell him, and I can see he’s piecing it together-that the something was me rejecting Selene.

“So that’s it. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about her. I wasn’t trying to hide it or anything like that. It’s just that after we stopped talking, I didn’t see the need to bring it up. So yes, we might not be related by blood, and even though she’s technically my senior, she’s my little sister. I hope that whatever anger you feel towards me for lying to you, you won’t direct it towards her because she’s amazing. I’d like the two of you to get to know each other,” I say.

“He’s right, she’s amazing,” Lena says.

“Also, please don’t be angry at him. He knows he made a mistake. Believe me, he does-I gave him an ass whooping for it,” Freya tells Zeo, and he looks shocked and confused.

“You mean figuratively, right?” he asks her.

“No, she doesn’t. She means it literally. I was there, and she threw Leo around like he weighed nothing,” Lena tells him.

“Well, that makes me feel much better. And I think these two are right-I’m really going to like you, Freya. Welcome to the family,” Zeo says.

“Thank you, Zeo,” Freya replies.

“I think I’m going to like you too. Anyone who can put Leo in his place is a friend of mine,” Zoey says.

I just know I’m not going to live this down. This story will probably be told long after I’m gone.

I look at Zeo, and he nods at me. I know we still need to have a conversation-just the two of us-but for now, we’re good.

“So, how did things go in New Orleans? Did you get the spell?” Zoey asks.

“Not exactly. We got to the guy who sold it, but he doesn’t know the name of the person who bought it,” I tell them.

“So, where does that leave us?” Zeo asks.

“He did say that the pages were delivered to a building-a company, to be precise. Our company, Knight Corp,” I reply.

“No, that’s impossible,” Zeo says.

“That’s what I thought too, but he had proof. The pages were delivered by courier to Knight Corp,” I tell him.

“So that means whoever is behind this is one of us,” he says.

“Exactly,” I reply.

Alpha Leo’s POV

“Okay, so let me see if I’ve got this right. Whoever is behind this isn’t someone you’ve pissed off in the past-it’s actually a member of your pack?” Zoey asks.

“That is correct,” I tell her.

“Wow, that’s just… wow,” she says, and I’m very grateful that at this moment she doesn’t have more to say.

“So who do you think it could be?” Lena asks.

“I have no idea,” I reply.

“So you’re saying you don’t have any disgruntled employees or someone you might’ve offended?” Lena asks.

“No, Zeo and I are barely at the office. We always work from home. We just go in for the monthly board meetings and stop by from time to time. How would I have possibly upset someone when I’m never there?” I explain.

“Okay, so if we’re to believe that you’re this beloved Alpha, could it be possible that whoever got those pages isn’t doing it of their own free will? Maybe they’re being blackmailed or something?” Zoey suggests. I have to admit, I’m shocked. This is the first time she’s actually given an opinion on the cure and everything that’s going on instead of just biting my head off and trying to convince Lena to leave.

“Yes, that’s also a possibility. But first, we need to find out who the pages were sent to. So we need to divide and conquer. I’ll go to the courier company that Merlin used, and Zeo, you’ll go to the office. Check the cameras, see who signed for packages six months ago. I’m sure between the both of us, we’ll be able to find out who got those pages,” I tell him.

“Okay, that sounds like a plan,” Zeo agrees.

“While you guys are busy with that, I’m going to take Freya to the lab so she can help me identify those unknown elements, so we can start looking for them. We’re going to need them for the cure,” Lena says.

“Okay, but that can wait until tomorrow. You just got back. Take the day off and spend it with the kids. Zeo and I will go and find the person who received the pages,” I suggest.

“Okay, thank you,” she replies.

“Alright then, Zeo, let’s go,” I say, and we get up from our chairs.

“Freya, are you good to stay here?” I ask my sister.

“Of course, and if there’s room for me, I’d like to stay here during my visit,” she replies.

“Of course there’s room for you, Freya,” Lena tells her.

“Are you avoiding the wicked she-wolf of the West?” Zoey asks with a smirk on her face.
