Chapter 7 – The Unwanted Daughter’s Three Mates

“Thank you. But I don’t like orange juice.”

How did he manage to be so authoritative, yet so sexy?

I almost burst into laughter at the disappointed look on Nathalia’s face. Jealousy flashed in her eyes.

Why was he helping me?

Without waiting for Nathalia’s approval, I turned to leave. My job was done.

But the clearing of Nathalia’s throat made me stop in my tracks once again. That was her way of secretly communicating with me, telling me my business wasn’t finished.

What does she want now?!

I had already done what she wanted.

“Is it just me, or is it hot in here?” she began, fanning her chest with her hands as she opened it wider, peeking at the King, who didn’t seem to notice her.

“This place is so boring,” she lamented, her hands dropping to her exposed pale chest. “A little bit of entertainment could lighten things up.” She smiled.

Goddess, please. I hope the entertainment doesn’t involve me.

“Maybe Aurora could help us,” she added, causing my heart to race.

“Aurora, please, dance for us. I know His Majesty wouldn’t mind,” she said, throwing a sweet smile at the King, who returned it with a frown.

Nathalia couldn’t do this to me.

“Don’t worry, my King. She’s just hiding her talent. She’s a great dancer.”

I almost growled in disapproval at her words.

Why was she saying all of this when she knew I couldn’t even do the simplest dance steps?

Tense silence settled in the room as I exchanged glares with Nathalia, pleading with her to reverse her command.

Tears started to sting my eyes as her words echoed in my head.

“It would be so fun to watch you humiliated.” Everything made sense now. She had turned me into a maid to humiliate me in front of everyone.

“Leave, Aurora,” the Alpha King’s voice thundered, making me gasp in shock.

Without wasting a second, I fled the room as fast as my legs could carry me, hoping Nathalia wouldn’t devise another plan.

“Of course,” I heard her say, her voice dripping with defeat.

I knew Nathalia’s rage was like a volcano about to erupt, but she dared not show it in front of the Alpha King if she valued her life.

I heaved a sigh of relief when I shut the door, thankful that the guards were away.

One question lingered in my mind: Why was the Alpha King helping me?

“Thank you for having us, Stefan. We will be on our way,” I heard the second man say, and I dashed out of the premises, heading to my room.

I shifted the curtain slightly, watching as the Alpha King and the strange man got into a sleek black car.

He must be incredibly wealthy.

I didn’t even notice when the door opened until a heavy kick knocked me off balance, sending a sharp pain through my body. I lifted my eyes to see Nathalia, her expression twisted with rage, looking like she was about to skin me alive.

“How dare you?!” she roared in hatred, striking me hard across the face before I could process what was happening.

Damon

The drive home was long and silent. Jasper kept throwing questionable looks at me through the rearview mirror, but I ignored them, turning my gaze away.

We were almost home. I could smell it.

I relaxed further into my chair, slowly sipping the champagne from my glass as my mind drifted. There was only one thing clouding my thoughts: the strange girl.

What was her name again? Aurora? It had to be that.

Judging from her scent, she didn’t smell like an Omega, nor did she smell like a rogue. She didn’t even have a wolf. It was hard to pinpoint who she really was. But I could swear I caught a powerful scent in her. My nose doesn’t deceive me.

If she had such a powerful scent, why was she reduced to working as a maid?

I could tell she wasn’t a maid. She was just forced into that role. She had to be the Alpha’s daughter-the annoying slut who kept throwing seductive looks my way and touching…

Goddess, I hate that girl.

She should be grateful I didn’t stab her slim fingers and eyes with a fork.

But Aurora’s scent had a calming effect on my troubled mind. Aurora. I liked the way it sounded. So innocent, so charming.

There was something about her that caught my attention, but I couldn’t quite place it.

Maybe it was the way she was manipulated. I knew that bitch had a hand in putting fear into her and forcing her to be a maid.

She thought I didn’t notice her glaring at Aurora. Her jealousy was practically suffocating the room.

The Alpha should be ashamed of his daughter’s lack of dignity.

She thought I was deaf to the clearing of her throat, signaling that Aurora should leave.

To think she almost humiliated Aurora in front of everyone…

Good thing she left in time, or I swear, I would have torn that annoying bitch to pieces.

Aurora.

I couldn’t help but notice the look on her face when I told her to leave.

Though I felt a strange emptiness in her absence, I was still relieved. The hall had felt like a cage, and I had to let her go.

Her eyes were so beautiful and unique; I could have stared at them forever.

I raised my palm to my nose, closing my eyes to inhale her scent before it vanished again.

Good thing I had touched her.

The scent of peach, lavender, and vanilla made my mouth water. I had to bite my lip to stop a groan from escaping.

But a frown settled on my face when a picture of her flashed in my mind.

She looked like she had been hit-like someone had slapped her repeatedly.

Anger flooded me as the realization that she had been mistreated hit me.

Why would they abuse her? Where were her parents?

Wait.

What was wrong with me? Why did I feel so concerned about a girl I had just met?

What was it about her that wouldn’t leave my mind? She even made me say thank you twice. I hadn’t said “thank you” in years.

Fuck!

I needed a distraction. I needed something to take my mind off her.
