“Austin,” she purrs. “I’m so glad to see you alone. I wanted to talk to you.” She says, trying and failing to be seductively. You would think she would get the point after years of rejection, that I’m not interested in her. I’ve also been very public in my affection to Rebel. Either way, she wants to talk. I just hope it’s not a waste of my time.
“What is it Ceraline?” I say with disinterest.
“I understand that you are putting together a Luna Guard for Rebel, and I would like to be considered for a spot. She says, surprising me. Not surprising me in a good way but more like, she has a lot of audacity, or she is more surprisingly stupid than I thought.
“Not necessary. I already have my final selection from Renz, and we will finish our selection shortly. Besides, I don’t have confidence that you would be willing to guard your Luna, based on your past confrontations.” I say to her before turning around to walk away.
“I want to make amends with Rebel, Austin.” She says. She’s a little too insistent.
“What are you playing at Ceraline? I know you don’t like LUNA Rebel.” I say, emphasizing Luna to her. This first name basis without respect for her ranked members is going to stop. “By the way, I’m Alpha Austin to you. The only person who gets the liberty of calling me by my first name is my mate. You are not her. Excuse me.” I say again, this time not stopping to listen to anymore nonsense from her. But of course, she wants to be stubbor and comes up to me again. I swear I’m trying to be nice, but she is wearing on my patience.
“Alpha Austin,” she purrs again, “I am serious about wanting to be part of the Luna Guard. I am a Beta’s daughter after all. I also know how to fight and defend. I can prove my worthiness to you.” She says batting he eyelashes and moves to try and put her arms around my neck.
I’m about to push her away and tell her no again, but there is a growl that comes from behind me, and I know it’s Rebel and I can feel her anger and maybe jealously. But she has nothing to be jealous about. Still, I like that she is possessiveness over me.
“Ceraline! Get your filthy paws away from my mate before I detach them from your body.” My mate snarls.
“Luna,” Ceraline says, “You misunderstand. I was just talking to Alpha about being part of your Luna Guard.” There is a little flash of a sneer in her eyes, but she covers it quickly.
Rebel laughs humorously, “Ceraline, you can’t even defend yourself against me. You are weak and desperate for my mate. But, as I have told you before, he is MY mate. Got it? MINE.
If I find you putting your poisonous hands on him again, I will dismember you.” Her eyes narrow and I can feel her aura pushing out. I know she is a beta’s daughter, but I swear she gives off Alpha energy, and it’s hot as fuck.
Ceraline steps back looking at me to say something on her behalf, instead, I walk up to my mate and put my arms around her. I move her chin up, so her gaze meets mine and I crash my lips in a possessive kiss. ‘You are so not gonna be able to walk tomorrow. I love how possessive you are over me.’ I growl in the mind link.
That seems to soften her eyes a bit and then she smirks. Then a little louder than she needs, she says, “My Alpha, shall we go to your office now? I think you and I need to make sure your desk is still in working condition.”
I growl. She is staking her claim and when I grab her by the hand to lead her away, I see Ceraline seething. Good. I don’t want to hit a female, but I certainly won’t stand in my mate’s way if she wants to lead that charge.
As we get to my office, I close and lock the door and pull Rebel into my arms smiling. “Is my mate jealous?” I say as I trail kisses along her jaw and neck, all the way to my mark on her neck.
“Jealous? No. Possessive? Absolutely. You are MINE.” She growls.
I chuckle, “Baby, I’m all yours, whenever you want. I only have eyes for you and this sexy body that constantly has me hard.” I continue sucking on my mark that is on her neck and smell her arousal. She small moan has me painfully hard again.
She pulls away and much to my disappointment refocuses, “I do not want that bitch on my Luna Guard, Austin. I don’t trust her.” She says.
“She wasn’t even on the long list, let alone the short list darling. She wasn’t even an afterthought. She approached me to ask me to put her on your guard detail. Said she wanted to make amends and prove her worthiness.” I tell her honestly.
Right then, there is a knock on the door. I go to unlock it and Renz comes in with his list and a couple of files. Alpha, Luna. I have the list for the guard and their files for you to review.” He says, holding out the small stack in front of us.
After a couple of hours and getting Rebel’s input, which honestly, I was not expecting her to be part of the conversation, we decided on two guard shifts.
I’ve started realizing that my mate acts more like an Alpha female naturally, than she does a Beta female. She is stronger, has a pull with her aura, has a natural discernment about people and not to mention very possessive Alpha behavior. Yet, her scent doesn’t give out Alpha female.
“Renz,” my mate starts, “Austin said you had the picture of Sydney and that it could be my mother. Have you found anything out and can I see the picture?” She asks.
“I will get the picture, and the quick answer is we have found out about Rising Moon, but nothing about Sy Give me a moment, I will be back with the picture and then we can discuss.” He says as he leaves and retu with the picture in hand. He passes it to Rebel and she studies the woman intently.
“I do look like her.” She says quietly. I can see the wheels turning in her head. She is thinking how different he life could have been if her mother lived and her father didn’t rob her of her mother’s family.
“As far as Rising Moon is concerned, they are a powerful pack. However, they are also very picky about who they let in the pack. No one can just claim asylum or ask for help. It’s rumored that almost all of the pack members have special gifts and talents. Because the pack is tight about the pack members, I haven’t been able to find anything on Sydney.
The thought did occur to me to try and reach out to the Alpha of the pack, Alpha Reid, which is in the registry, but I thought it might be better if it caine from Austin, since he is the Alpha. Maybe it would illicit a response from Rising Moon.” He said.
“What about Alpha Kaden of Blue Moon? Did you find anything on him Renz?” I ask.
“Alpha Kaden seems shady. According to pack records online, he is very underhanded in his dealings with other packs. He has been before the council of the northeastern territory more than once for violating pack law. Somehow though, he always comes out untouched. It’s like mafia level cover ups.” He says.
I feel my mate’s nervousness and concern. I know she is worried that this Alpha is hunting her as well, but I’m not going to let anything happen to her. I pull her closely to me and kiss her temple. “He’s not going to go near you.” I say in her ear.
“There’s more though Alpha. Apparently, he has had two other Lunas before. It was a way for him to take over other packs or force alliances. After the deals were done and he got what he wanted, both Lunas died in ‘ accidents’.” He adds, making me growl.
“That can’t be a coincidence. The council didn’t investigate?” I asked, rage building in me chest. If he thinks he can get my mate, he is wrong. I will kill that bastard first.
“They did, but the trails went cold. It screams, set up, but no way to prove it. Like I said, mafia level shit Austin.” He replied.
Keep us posted if you find out anything else on Rising Moon and Sydney. Also, see if we can keep tabs on Alpha Kaden. We may need to reach out to the council and tell them about the rogue attack and what we were told by Carter.” I say.
“All those ‘crimes’ and nothing sticks? Doesn’t that seem odd to you?” Rebel asks. “Renz, can you find me information on the council too? It doesn’t make sense that there isn’t any proof. What if the council is in league with Kaden?” She says.
I hate to admit it, because the councils are supposed to uphold wolf laws, but my mate has a point. How is it possible nothing sticks, unless the council is helping Kaden get away with everything?
“Agreed. Renz, let’s dig into the council as well. We may need our council involvement if the northeastern side is compromised.” I say.
“I will get working on it right away.” With that Renz leaves the office.
I turn to my mate with a list of books to get her started, but first, I need to calm her down. I may want to bend her over my desk right now, but that is not what she needs at the moment. I pull her into my arms and inhale her scent. It’s calming my anger and concern right now too.
