Ceraline POV
Shit. Did Michael go to Austin and say we are mates? I need to minimize his importance and highlight Austin. I need to convince him to let me out of here.
“Because I love you Austin. I’ve always loved you. I’ve never made my feelings or attempts to win your affection a secret,” I begin, “Michael was unfortunately paired with me, but I could never love him. The Moon Goddess wanted to downgrade me by pairing me with him. How could I stay mated to him?” I added.
“You call the Moon Goddess’ gift a downgrade, Ceraline?” His tone is incredulous.
“What would you call it Austin? I’m a Beta’s daughter. I should be paired with you! I should be your Luna. I love you more than anything and the Moon Goddess clearly messed up when she paired you and I both with mates that are less than worthy of us.” I say pleading with him to agree with me.
“Did you hear enough?” He called out.
Just then, Michael came into view. His eyes were red-rimmed and tears rolling down his cheeks. Shit. I didn’t sense him in all the filth. I would have had more tact, had I known he was listening.
“Yes, Alpha.” His voice sounded dull and completely devoid of emotion.
“I loved you Ceraline. I may not have been a high ranked member or Alpha, but I was loyal to you, because I loved you. Why would you use me this way? What wrong did I do to you?” He said and I could feel his disappointment. It was a weak aura, but there, nonetheless.
At this point, there is no way out for me. No matter what, I’m done for, so I unleash my anger on him, “What wrong?” I start, “You wronged me by being weak. You spoke of protecting me while admitting you were weak. What woman would want to be paired with you? You were a means to get information. That was couldn’t love someone so beneath me.
