Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 75 – Fire in the Heart

The baby takes what it needs from the mother, so you don’t need to worry, your baby will be fine, I say through the link.

Yeah, but you need to keep yourself fed and strong too or have you forgotten that part?

I’m fine. Winona has been giving me food, and I make really good sandwiches.

Yeah, I’ve heard of your sandwich-making skills,he replies mockingly. I frown.

Don’t mock me, I might just make a sandwich out of you, I threaten and then block him out, simply enjoying the dessert.

“Can Azura mind-link Daddy now? Does that mean you joined our pack?” Corrado asks innocently. This kid sure is smart… I look at Leo, deciding it’s best if he answered this one.

“It’s a little complicated, kiddo. Now, how about you finish your dessert?” He looks at us curiously before nodding.

“Okay, Daddy.”

Leo doesn’t have any dessert, simply drinking his coffee. We fall into a comfortable silence, and I look at them both, wondering what the story behind Corrado’s birth is. Where is his mama?

“I’ll go brush my teeth and put my pyjamas on now, I’m so sleepy! Azura, I will call you when I’m ready,” Corrado declares, finishing off his milkshake and supporting a cute milky moustache. That part emphasising how tired he is makes it clear he isn’t tired.

“Okay! Call me.” I give him the thumbs up before he gives Leo a big hug and runs off.

“He never wants to sleep usually,” Leo remarks.

“He’s a good kid,” I reply quietly as he disappears into his bedroom. Leo nods.

“He is, although I don’t really get to spend as much time with him as I want.”

“I guess he gets that, considering you are practically running this pack.”

“Yeah,” Leo says, placing his cup down.

“Was he okay that Nikki’s gone?” I ask, feeling a sliver of guilt rush through me. Leo looks at me and shakes his head slightly.

“Yeah, he didn’t really care. They weren’t really close, which Iguess is for the better.”

“I can’t believe that. He’s really social and lovable.”

“Towards you, and that’s why he thinks I should keep you,” Leo replies, frowning as he emphasises the word ‘keep’. I smirk, leaning forward.

“Not jealous, are you, that he has taken a liking to me so soon?” I tease.

“Not at all,” he replies. Our eyes meet, and I can’t stop myself from asking the question that burns in my mind.

“Where is his mama?” His eyes flash before he looks away.

Shit, I shouldn’t have asked

“I’m sorry, if you don’t want to talk about -“

“It’s not that… I’ve just never told anyone the truth about that.” He speaks very quietly.

“Want to share? You already know my secrets,” I say, sitting forward.

His gaze dips to my cleavage, and he leans forward, taking hold of my chin. My breath hitches at his touch, and he runs his thumb across my bottom lip, sending sparks rushing through me. The urge to bite down on his thumb is intense.

“Maybe I will… but right now… someone’s watching us with a little too much attention,” he whispers huskily. My eyes widen and I jerk away, only to see the shadow of the little minion down the hall.

“I’ll go to put him to bed,” I say, standing up. “Then I want to know that story.”

“Fine.”

He leans back. This time when I walk away, I don’t mind taking it a little slower, giving him a good view of my behind in this mini skirt…

A little extra sway in my hips wouldn’t harm anyone.

I can’t wait to know what the story behind Corrado’s mama is, and I hope it helps me understand Leo a little more…

I smile when I see Corrado scrambling into bed and almostlaugh. Oh, he is such a mini-me.

“Oh, hello, Azura. I was just going to call you,” he lies innocently.

“Oh, I’m sure you were. Now, how about a bedtime story…”

Something I’ve Never Shared

Leo

Iagreed… I don’t know why I fucking did… I just know that she won’t betray my trust or mention it to others. She might be crazy, but she’s my type of crazy, and one I know won’t do anything to hurt anyone on purpose, in serious matters anyway. I mean, I wouldn’t put it past her to try to slit my throat in my sleep if I pissed her off, but at the same time, I know the type of things she’d keep quiet… I know if she knew about the fact that I’m dying, she would try to do shit even if it meant breaking a promise, but something like Corrado’s truth… she wouldn’t tell anyone.

Even Marcel doesn’t know, and regardless of that truth, it changes nothing. I clear the table off, taking a bottle of whiskey and two glasses to the lounge area. As a werewolf, I know drinking does nothing to a pregnant woman, so a glass or two won’t fucking hurt.

Why does this feel too intimate?

I sigh, remembering the vague memory from long ago.
